The box office figures weren't spectacular, but zero publicity, a niche audience (sci fi), and the background necessary (the tv show), made it a difficult sell - so considering that "Serenity" didn't do all that bad. DVD sales of the show and movie are doing well.

The next step is for us, and it is easy.

First, purchase the dvd and get friends and family to watch the show and movies (this we already know).

The second move is more important and a little more work. Sometime after the holidays, after the dvd sales have come and passed, we need to start a letter writing campaign. This campaign should be fierce, polite, and powerful.

Speak to the fact that the population of people who love the movie is growing. Talk about the lack of publicity and yet it did well. Speak to other movies with poor first showings and better second ones, speak to the critical acclaim.

I say start a letter writing campaign begining around the first week of Feb. Also, contact other sci fi websites (be polite and diplomatic) and places like aintitcool, superherohype, etc.

I think it could help, or at least we could say we gave it a shot. I just think it needs to remain in movie form and not go back to tv (unless as a series again).

And that's my 2 cents.

I agree with what you said.

There is only one big catch. In order for such things to work you need the entire fan base to take action. But, this has been done before (to my understanding - i'm a fresh convert :) ), so it should be possible.

I converted one guy this weekend. I asked if he wanted to see a cool movie and i showed him the pilot. When it was over he asked "was that it??? i want more!". He was relived when i told him that it was only the pilot and that he had 13 more episodes. We watched them all.

When he had seen them he said there was no doubt that he would buy the movie and the series. And he would spread the word.

And if it is that easy to create a convert then you know how high the quality is.

I'm moving to Australia in February so my mission continues down there. Guess i'm more like sheppard Book :) Kind of a missionary hehe.

Edit: However if i were to choose between a sequel and another season/completing season 1. It would be the latter.

Competing season 1 (shouldnt there be 22 episodes?) and having season 2 is my dream hehe.

My own personal campaign is just to send a copy of the Serenity dvd to everyone I normally only send Christmas cards to. This year they get a card AND the BDM. In case you're wondering, that's 73 copies of the dvd that I've pre-ordered on Amazon. It's a little expensive, but also it's just a one-time thing so I think it's worth it.

Wow Jonathan! That is 1) a brilliant idea 2) Nice way to get them to buy the series 3) Good support and of cource proof that you are way richer then me :)

But thinking about it, i think i will include it in 2 christmas cards :) Thats what i can afford at the moment.

Jayne: All those years of preacher training, getting knocked out by one bounty hunter
Book: Oh, dont get me wrong. I gave him a hell of a fight
Jayne: Epic i'm guessing

Thanks, Andre. Brilliant may be overstating it a little (or a lot). There were all these people on my Christmas card list who know me and whose addresses I already have. It just made sense to me to also send them the BDM dvd this year. And I am really stretching my usual Christmas budget to do this, but it is just this one time, so what the heck... Hopefully, most of them will become fans.

If you can only afford two, that's great. That's still two more potential fans.
