I once referred to The Muppet Show as the first and only good Reality TV. Well, it looks like the genre's come full-circle.

They’ve acted in countless movies and television specials; they ran their own weekly vaudeville stage show on “The Muppet Show”; they ran the MuppeTelevision control room in “The Jim Henson Hour”; and they put tackled their own television station with “Muppets Tonight”. Now the Muppets are working on their latest gig, putting together their own “reality” television contest called “America’s Next Muppet”.

As all Muppet shows, the series will also show the existing Muppet gang in action as they try to hold the auditions and organize the challenges on the show. Some reports even say that Disney is working to make the show “interactive” by allowing viewers to vote for their favorite characters in that week’s episode.

This is good. The Muppets have always been at their best doing satirical metafictional commentary on the nature of the entertainment industry. I'm glad to see a return to it.

I'm especially excited about how if this does well, we may get a new ongoing Muppet series.

Any chance Rigel or Pilot will make an appearance? ;-)

What about the Angel puppet?

That would be so incredibly awesome!

I mean, Rigel and Pilot at least have an "in," being Henson estate creations. Puppet-Angel is less-likely, but I'm sure strings could be pulled.

Is David Boreanaz a Muppet fan? ('Cause really, it's not just Puppet-Angel, we'd need DB to do the voice, or it just won't be funny.)

Maybe, if Joss and Andy Hallet are up for it, he could even bring Lorne around.

But Disney owns the muppets now not Henson so I don't think there's much of a chance of seeing Rigel or Pilot (and even less of puppet Angel although that would be awesome).
