"Chinese spacecraft getting ready to land"

If their space program gets enough funding, it may just rival NASA.

Joss wasn't far off with a meshing of the superpowers enabling them to leave "Earth that was". Especially if both space programs keep going the way they are.

I like the premise, it works well, kinda makes me think of Bladerunner.

On the subject of Blade Runner, does anyone find it eerie how we laughed at the ATARI adverts in neon signage in the film when at the time (mid-late 1990s?) Atari had fallen well before the B.R timeline takes place, or the fact that the company was recently ressurected with the current MATRIX and TERMINATOR video games?

joss was quite right about the china + us thing.

this is speculative, of course, but currently as i see it, the three main powers are usa, russia, and china. us = current power, russia = falling power, china = rising power.

Concerning USA, China, and Russia:
for instance, the top three military expenditures are from usa, china, and russia. the three countries capable of independently launching people into space are usa, china, and russia. those three are all permananent members of the UN and all three are 'nuclear weapons states'. at the olympics, the top three gold metal countries were usa (35), china (32), russia (27). overall in terms of all medals, us, china, and russia were still the top 3. in terms of land mass, russia, usa, and china are the top 3 (except for canada, which is actually the second largest, china and usa being 3 and 4).

Concerning USA and China:
usa has arguably the most powerful military in the world. china has the largest (due to population, i would assume). usa's economy is doing fine, china's economy is skyrocketing so fast. china and usa have the first and third largest populations respectively (india being second). both are local powers and global powers.

i have to applaud joss for coming up with a storyline that seems possible to branch from reality three years before now.

Nah - US and China will wipe each other out so it'll be Canada and the Ukraine.
