Alright. With so many avid Firefly fanatics here, I'm sure to come up with something on this.

I'm trying to put together a Wash music video. My only problem is coming up with the right song. Hence, the help I need. If anyone can make suggestions, please do so (along with a short excerpt from the lyrics as to why it's a good Wash song).

Anything goes. I'll take a humorous song (I've actually had "Don't Worry; Be Happy" suggested) if it fits! Thanks to all, and especially Joss for creating such a wonderful universe.

"I'm a leaf on the wind; watch how I soar."

Useless Trivia Fact #287: Zoe's maiden name is Alleyne.

Before I can even begin to think of songs, I have to know from whence you ferretted Zoe's middle name? We never even hear her last name on the show.

KNIBBLET

More Than a Woman, The BeeGeesOh, girl I’ve known you very well
I’ve seen you growing everyday
I never really looked before
But now you take my breath away.

Suddenly you’re in my life
Part of everything I do
You got me working day and night
Just trying to keep a hold on you.

Here in your arms I found my paradise
My only chance for happiness
And if I lose you now I think I would die.

Oh say you’ll always be my baby
We can make it shine, we can take forever
Just a minute at a time.

More than a woman, more than a woman to me
More than a woman, more than a woman to me
More than a woman, oh, oh, oh.

There are stories old and true
Of people so in love like you and me
And I can see myself
Let history repeat itself.

Reflecting how I feel for you
Thinking about those people then
I know that in a thousand years
I’d fall in love with you again.

This is the only way that we should fly
This is the only way to go
And if I lose your love I know I would die.

Oh say you’ll always be my baby
We can make it shine, we can take forever
Just a minute at a time.

More than a woman, more than a woman to me
More than a woman, more than a woman to me
More than a woman, oh, oh, oh.

I offer "Fly Away" by Lenny Kravitz.

I wish that I could fly
Into the sky
So very high
Just like a dragonfly

I’d fly above the trees
Over the seas in all degrees
To anywhere I please

Oh I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah

Oh I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah

Let’s go and see the stars
The milky way or even mars
Where it could just be ours

Let’s fade into the sun
Let your spirit fly
Where we are one
Just for a little fun
Oh oh oh yeah !

I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah

I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah

I got to get away
Feel I got to get away
Oh oh oh yeah

I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah with you yeah yeah
Oh yeah !

I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah with you yeah yeah
I got to get away

I want to get away
Yeah
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah with you yeah yeah
I got to get away

I want to get away
Yeah

I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah with you

From the companion book Serenity: A Visual Companion. In it Joss lets it slip. Also, in the novelization of the movie, there's an excerpt from the war, from Mal's POV, and it's in there as well, but it's not her middle name, but her maiden name (before she married Wash).

Those are great songs, I'll have to get them and listen to them! Thanks and keep the suggestions coming.

Useless Trivia #12: During "down time" in shooting the series, the actors hung out in the common area that was just outside the infirmary rather than going to the green room.

Just in case you haven't seen the BDM yet...

Select to view spoiler:

How about Neil Young's "Expecting to Fly"? It has a nice bittersweet sound to it, and lyrics that could hardly be more fitting:

There you stood on the edge of your feather
Expecting to fly
While I laughed, I wondered whether
I could wave goodbye,
Knowin' that you'd gone...

"Crazy" by Seal.

It's not perfect, but it has a few lines that make me think of Wash (and Mal, for that matter).

And we're never gonna survive,
unless we get a little crazy.
And we're never gonna survive,
unless we have a little faith.

In a world full of people, only some want to fly,
isn't that crazy?

"10,000 Miles", the song Mary Chapin Carpenter sang on the soundtrack of 'Fly Away Home':

Oh, fare thee well, my own true love.
Fare well for a while.
I'm goin' away, but I'll be back,
though I go ten thousand miles.

Dashboard Confessional's "Vindicated". It's got a good feel and smacks of sadness and redemption.

I'm something of a coinnesuer [sic] of fanvids and I'd be happy to beta/consult.

I think you need to have decided on what exactly you want in the song (apart from, obviously, applicable or ironic lyrics)

- Humor/Irony
- Happiness/Sadness
- Speed
- General style (classical/dance/rock (incl. era)/country/folk/etc)
- How much it applies specifically to Wash, vs. Wash and the rest of the crew

All of these things will make a big difference in what the video is going to look like, and you should.

For example, a humorus focus on Wash and the rest of the crew could be set to the "Gilligan's Isle" theme (Gilligan=Wash, Skipper=Mal, Millionaire=Simon, Wife=Kaylee, Movie Star=Inara, Professor=Book, Mary Anne=Zoe). Other bits of random humor could be to themes like Mr. Roger's, George of the Jungle (Watch Out For That Tree!), Speed Racer, Spaceballs, etc); random bits of humor like William Shatner singing anything, TMBG (I think Particle Man would make an amusing video, but that's just me!), any Star-Trek parody song (for example, Dr. Demento's "Star Trekkin"), any of the "All Your Base Are Belong To US" songs, etc. Ack, I just thought of a Reavers video to "Purple People Eater" :P Mashups are always amusing as well, as many people don't even know that they exist, and they can make a good impression ;)

For on theme, there are a *lot* of options. I have about two dozen mixes of "Fly Me To The Moon", in every genre you could imagine. "Flying" (beatles), "Fly me high" (Moody Blues), "Learning to Fly" (Pink Floyd), "Fly" (sarah brightman), "Fly Away" (Lenny Kravitz), "Just fly away from here" (Aerosmith), "Given To Fly" (Pearl Jam), "Fly" (Sugar Ray), "Fly Into Your Soul" (Bust A Groove), "I'll Fly Away" (O Brother, Where Art Thou), "Fly" (Nick Drake), "Lets Go Fly A Kite" (Mary Poppins), and many more.

For "space", we have things like "Space Dog" (Tori Amos, although a bit odd), "A Love From Outer Space" (A Luaka Bop), "Mean Green Mother From Outer Space (Little Shop of Horrors - Ok, perhaps not applicable to Wash!), "space" and "Space Battle" ("The Beta Band"), "Space Oddity" (David Bowie), "Spaceboy" (Smashing Pumpkins), "Space Journey" (Cast in Bronze), "2001 - A Space Oddyssey", "Space Suit" (TMBG), et al.

For "rocket", we have "Rocket" (Smashing Pumpkins), "Silver Rocket" (Sonic Youth), "Big Dumb Rocket" (Our Lady Peace), "Rocket Man", "Hotei Rocket" and "Rocket Dive" (Hide), "Rockets" (Cat Power - very pretty, slow), "Rocket" (Def Leppard), "Rocketman" (Red Elvises), etc.

Other things that come to mind are those with "Sail" in the title, like "Come sail away", "Sail Away Sweet Sister",

Insturmental stuff can be great. For example, some Apocalyptica just came on, and for some reason, it seems like it would fit Firefly very well - I can't really put my finger on why. Also, choral (say, New World Rennaisance - perhaps "Never Weather Beaten Sail"?), early-century (say, O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack), and modern choral (say, Bond) would probably work well as well. I'd avoid country even though it's in theme, but that's just me ;)

SMOKE

Serenity By Godsmack

As I sit here and slowly close my eyes
I take another deep breath
And feel the wind pass through my body
I’m the one in your soul
Reflecting the light
Protect the ones who hold you
Cradling your inner child

It’s serenity
In a place where I can hide
I need serenity
Nothing changes, days go by

Where do we go when we just don’t know
And how do we relight the flame when it’s cold
Why do we dream when I thought mean nothing
And when will we learn to control

Tragic visions slowly stole my life
Tore away everything
Cheating me out of my time
I’m the one who loves you
No matter wrong or right
And every day I hold you
I hold you with my inner child

It’s serenity
In a place where I can hide
I need serenity
Nothing changes, days go by

Where do we go when we just don’t know
And how do we relight the flame when it’s cold
Why do we dream when I thought mean nothing
And when will we learn to control

Where do we go when we just don’t know
And how do we relight the flame when it’s cold
Why do we dream when I thought mean nothing
And when will we learn to control

I need serenity [x2]
