THE SCI-FI CHANNEL.
------------------------------------------
From the www.fireflysupport.com site:

According to an 20th Century Fox, the next place they're looking to sell Firefly is the The Sci-Fi Channel.

Please send postcards with your demographic information (age, sex, income, number of adults in your household) to the following addresses. Indicate why you enjoy Firefly and why it would be a good fit for The Sci-Fi Channel.

MARK STERN
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING
THE SCI FI CHANNEL
1230 AVENUE OF THE AMERICAS
NEW YORK NY 10020-1513

Mr. Stern is an especially good target because he is new to the Sci Fi Channel and looking to establish himself. Additionally, he was a member of the production team for The Outer Limits when it moved from Showtime to Sci Fi, and thus has an understanding of what it's like to move a show from one network to another.

BONNIE HAMMER
PRESIDENT
THE SCI FI CHANNEL
1230 AVENUE OF THE AMERICAS
NEW YORK NY 10020-1513

PLEASE NOTE We are aware that some fans will be concerned that encouraging Sci-Fi to include Firefly in its programming schedule may hurt the chances of Farscape having another season. We have reason to believe this is unlikely, as our contact at 20th Century Fox stated that they are aiming to pitch Firefly as a miniseries or movie. This does not present a conflict of interests with Farscape, since Farscape is seeking an entire season of episodes.

-----------------------------------------

To be honest, I am a little sad... A firefly mini-series would be nice, since it could be as long as the currently aired episodes, and would have a definate end date, so would have some conclusion, but it would be like the equivalent of just one season, when you everything together (episodes and miniseries). Better than nothing, but I still want a whole season.

A movie would be even more dissapointing to me, since it would be a one shot deal... Still, better than nothing tho...

Maybe if a movie or miniserirs was picked up and was well recieved we would see negotiations for a series?

Ah well, off to send some post cards!

Up and at 'em!

*cracking my knuckles* I'm gettin' a mite ornery, so let's see if someone somewhere can see this for the masterpiece that it really is.

I don't really want to have to go over there and personally explain the situation to these guys.

(I'm from Jersey, the Sopranos ain't so off base, ya know?)

no....not liking this idea very much. But some Firefly is better than no Firefly, so writing I will do.

By the way, I'm rather new at this...so does it need to be a postcard like they're stating, or is a letter good enough? Sorry..don't know the rules of engagement.

Thanks -

I've been thinking about it and, while i still don't like it, pitching firefly as a mini-series is probably a really good idea. I'm guessing the the per episode cost would go down a little, and there would be less financial commitment, hence making it more apealling to pick up.

I don't think Firefly would work as a movie, however. I'd still watch it of course, but there are so many subplots that need to be filled in (at least to make the movie satisfing to me) that a 2 hr movie wouldn't cut it.

I'm still hopefull that a successful mini- or movie would lead to a seasonal contract... of course, if the mini-series goes ahead and ties up the loose ends that the series opened, then there really wouldn't be much left to make a new season about... if we knew were Book was from, what simon/rivers fate was (and what happened to river), how mal turns out, etc etc, would the show really be as good anymore?

And to answer youre question, post cards are prefered because there's no envelope to open. (this makes it easier to sort and also makes the threat of people sending in hazardous materials much much lower).

This is ususally how Sci-Fi Channel usually does series. They produce a miniseries or movie as a pilot, and if the ratings are good enough, they produce a full season.

It's what they're doing with Galactaca; it's what they're doing with Tremors, and it's what they're doing with the new Quantum Leap. It looks like we might be able to add Firefly to that list.

No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No ...

Screw Sci-FI. They dont know good science fiction from a hole in thier...uh...head!

Look, what's wrong with WB or hell, CBS, ABC, NBC...

I think Sci Fi is a dead end cul-de-sac soon to be full of Taken, Dune and Tremors rip offs. Sci-Fi has already announced a desire to concentrate on $400 miilion dollars of original programming through until 2005. They don't want to see Farscape and Firefly and Star Trek and Babylon 5 on thier network. They want cheap, banal "mainstream" garbage.

Sorry, that was a bitt of a rant, but I feel pretty strongly about this. Can you tell?

The Sci-Fi Channel? Rats. We don't get that in Canada.

Honestly, I don't care what happens as long as SOMEONE picks it up.

Maybe the Space station will get in on the action...

Not to worry my Canadian friend, I am sure someone would be willing to burn you copies if you pick up the tab for mailing and the CDs.

As to Sci Fi being a dead end, it may be, but no moreso than doing nothing. Fox doesn't want the show, UPN turned us down, and let's face it, NBC, CBS, & ABC are too mainstream and conservative for a show like Firefly. At this point, if Joss thinks Sci Fi is the best option, and I agree w/ him, then that is where we have to concentrate our efforts. Something is better than nothing so we have to support getting Serenity flying on Sci Fi.
