The 10 o'clock showing of Serenity in Gainesville, FL had 83 people in it. At the prices they charge that's in the neighborhood of 600 bucks. The midnight show only had about 10 people, but that's still 70-ish. So, the 7 o'clock would have done better than the 10 and the matinees would have done some, I'd bet. So, it seems like Serenity might have netted at least something close to 2000 for its second Friday. That seems pretty promising to me. I think Serenity will stay very high on the box office this weekend. There's a pretty decent chance for a sequel. And if not, some Universal studio execs are going to learn to fear the wrath of angry Browncoats.

As far as Gainesville goes on this particular Friday you have to remember that the big pep rally thing was going on for Homecoming Week at UF. That's a good 40,000 people not at the theaters. Also the Football game is relatively early on Saturday so people might be less inclined to go to a late showing. You have to remember with this town, it's mostly governed by Football.

You're right. Which makes the fact that Serenity still did at least decent business even better. The number of people who might see the movie tonight or tomorrow will probably be higher since there's no Gator Growl or game to compete with.
