Here in the UK (as I’m sure you all know) we have this thing called the BBC, a bit like the US PBS, and one of its radio offerings is Radio 4 – designed for the older “middle class” man and woman – but (big embarrassment) I listen to it all the time – mostly for a ridiculous soap opera called the Archers about “country folk” and the arts programmes.

Anyway, I happened to turn it on to the nightly 7.15 p.m. arts review programme, Front Row, last night and they reviewed Serenity … Their verdict?

To paraphrase:

“Serenity blows Star Wars right out of the water,.. Joss Whedon is the ONLY person who should write film scripts, it’s funny and witty and we really felt for all the characters – go see it now!”

Plus they played the “oh God, oh God we’re all gonna die?” clip, right up to “no grenades, Jayne!”

My mother was in the car with me (a 60 year old, very staid, yet maniacal woman). She listened to the clip and laughed A LOT, then listened to the review. Then she said: “That sounds really good”. So I said; “you wanna watch the series, it’s a work of genius” and she responded, “I think I will”!

Let’s hope a Radio 4 endorsement has that effect on all “women of a certain age”!!!!

Is anyone else willing to take a stand, fess up and admit they heard the review??
