Good on you for getting others to go. I'm trying to do the same. The opening weekend wasn't terribly successful $$$-wise, but it's got a ways to go. And we know the movie-to-DVD sales will be outstanding anyways.

granted the $$$ wasn't fantastic, but it was like 2nd on $$$/per theatre and #2 at the box office so it should stay in the theatre at least 1-3 more weeks

It's going to need strong legs, strong international box office, and good home market returns to show a profit. On the other hand, the Firefly DVD has jumped up to #2 on Amazon, so the movie is having a direct effect on sales. Too bad Universal doesn't get a piece of that.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Excellent work TudykRawks! Keep it up! The more people you convince to see it the better our chances of a sequel.

Actually Serenity came in 3rd on average per theatre take on the weekend behind History of Violence and Proof.

History of Violence $6120/theatre (1st wk wide release)
Proof did $4904 (strong for its 3rd week)
Serenity $4635/theatre.
and finally, Flightplan $4391

Nice work, TudykRwaks. Feel the same drive to do something myself. So, I’ve gotten at least a dozen people interested in the film, and most of them will probably go with friends. I’ve been bringing it up at every opportunity, in a casual, “oh by the way you should check this movie out, I saw it and it’s great” kind of way. Right now I need to contrive a reason to visit my astronomy professor during his office hours so I can recommend the film after he answers whatever it is I’m gonna ask him. Ah, the unsuspecting masses. So, keep at it fellow Browncoats. This is word of mouth at work!

More non-fans in the theaters now means more DVDs sold in the future. It’s a two-for-one deal.

BUBBLEOFEARTH

I have a boss kind enough to let me decorate my desk with little Serenity posters, and the (normally silent) vending machine guy came in today & ended up sticking around for a 30 minute conversation on the state of Sci-Fi getting rutted by TV & movie-making companies. He'd seen ads for Serenity, but didn't associate them with the name of the movie, and he'll be going to see it this weekend. :)

Not sure how many of the other people I badgered will go this weekend (at least 8 are going with me), but as long as new people are seeing it, the word will spread. It's just too good a movie to disappear from the map.
