NAKEDANDARTICULATE

THIS IS AN OPEN LETTER TO ALL BROWNCOATS............................................................

It's now 2 weeks away from the release. You may be reading this today,or next week or the day of the films release. This is the most important time if you are a Browncoat. This is what matters most......the box office. It has to make 80 million worldwide. If we want to continue seeing adventures of our Big Damn Heroes, it has to make that amount. Let's try to make 80 million here in the states alone.Let's be mighty. You may have been one of the many who wrote Fox when it was near cancellation, or wrote them when it was cancelled. That doesn't matter anymore. You may have been one of the many telling friends and family about this wonderful world. That doesn't matter anymore. You may have donated a copy or 4 to your local libraries. That doesn't matter anymore. You may be buying up all of the merchandise for the film. That doesn't matter anymore.Ultimately, what we have done matters to cast and crew of Serenity, but for Universal to greenlight a sequel- the box office matters now. For me,the definition of a Browncoat is this--never give up. A Browncoat is a hero, and my "definition of a hero" is this---pure,good and will always fight even after doing many great things before. So let's be heroes. Let's show the world what we have known since the fall of 2002. That this is a great creation, filled with adventure, horror, comedy, drama and of course 10 amazing and great characters. The captain, the pilot, the mercenary, the doctor, the psychic, the holy man, the mechanic, the companion, the soldier all aboard a ship called Serenity. Let's keep flyin'...........

As much as I hate that it comes down to money, he is right.

I will be seeing the film several times to do my part.

I've also heard of browncoats who intend to stand in front of theaters in their areas and attempt to sway the undecided crowd towards Serenity.

Do not fear me. Ours is a peaceful race, and we must live in harmony.

Ah yes. I can see it now....trying to convince strangers to enter a dark room full of obsessive fanatics....thatl work.

Really....tell your friends, word of mouth...advertise. But learn a little lesson from the alliance mistakes...and let people make their own minds up without un-called for interference. Trying to brainwash people into doing the right thing too directly can backfire...

Selling stuff is like dating. Go at it 2 hard...and you will drive them away.

I agree. I've been e-mailing the link to the river tam sessions to friends that haven't seen FF yet and letting Joss do the hard work of convincing people. BTW, does your sig come from Terry Pratchett or did you hear it elsewhere?

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Well said Nakedandarticulate!

We helped to make the movie a reality. It was our faith and perseverance that helped get the DVD set released, and our efforts that caused that set to exceed the goals of the powers that be. It was our spreading the word and introducing the show to new people that caused the fanbase to grow and took a show that everyone said would never rise again & saw it made into the BDM. It was our loyalty and our hard work that has helped get the release of comics, action figures, books, and trading cards.

We have done the impossible. We did it against the odds and despite all the naysayers. Sure it makes us mighty, but we ain't there yet browncoats. We got to go a little further. We need to carry the banner just a little longer. We need one last push, one more valiant effort to carry the day. Joss, the cast, and the future of Serenity is in our hands now. Joss, 'Versal & the cast have done all they can. It's once again up to the Browncoats to do what we do best: the impossible.

Sure many of us will go to see the BDM multiple times. We will take friends, converts, family, and co-workers. It may not be enough. We need to do more. We need to turn up our efforts. The browncoats need to continue to spread the word. We need to introduce as many people as we possibly can in the next 15 days. We need to convert people like never before so we can fill seats at the theatres.

Follow Nathan's advise: sneak in your own drinks & snacks & use the money you save to see the movie as many times as you can.

We can do this browncoats!

Keep Flyin'!

I did not intend to imply that I was going to do this. I am far too busy to stand around and try to sell the movie to strangers.

These were the words of a girl I stood in line next to at DragonCon while waiting the manditory 3 hours in line for the cast Q&A.

*gasp* Terry Pratchett? Where? (just kidding)

You know, if this movie would have come out in April, I'd feel better about doing my part because I would have still been in high school and able to watch it constantly with a different group of friends each time. Now that I'm in college, I have no money and no friends. *cry* That's not entirely true. I will go and see the movie at least once on that Friday and I have met other browncoats here, so I will bring them with me...or follow them. (I have no car.) But I will not be able to see it lots of times the way I wanted to. *sigh* But you have no idea how crazy it is to see those letters on the front page. 15 days left. Fifteen! Seems like yesterday it said 208 or some ridiculous number. Not that time flies, but you spend forever waiting and you get startled when it gets here.

FIREFLYGAL

I stand by my promise of month's ago to go every showing (or at least buy the tickets) the first 2 weekends and frequently thereafter!!!

Maybe the Browncoats that want to pursued non-Browncoats can print out some flyers to pass around. I know there are some probably in the Blue Sun room for people's use. Check with the theater first on their rules for passing stuff out.

I'd like to get a running contest going for how many times we've each seen it..... I'm at 3

I aim to misbehave!

I've made a promise to myself that every single time I see the BDM in the theater, I'm buying one extra ticket, in memory of a browncoat who passed a while back. And I'm planning on seeing it twice a week, every week, as long as I can find it in any theater. So what if I have to eat ramen noodles for a month!

Hi, I've been reading these boards for what seems like years, but I have never posted anything before this. I just wanted to say thanks to all the Browncoats who made this movie possible. I remember when Firefly was first cancelled and thinking, damn, that was a good show. I hate FOX.
I sent a letter to SCI-FI asking them to please consider picking up the show, but that was the extent of my Firefly activism. I gave up. Every once in a while I'd look on this board (or the FOX board when it was still running) to see what was going on in the Firefly verse', but for the most part I gave up on any possibility that Firefly might come back.
So you can imagine how excited I was when I heard Serenity was being made. I couldn't believe it! Someone actually listened to us and is making a movie. Or should I say listened to you guys. I guess what I'm trying to say is you guys rock! You guys kept going when others gave up.
Thanks everyone!

I never honestly thought you did intend to do that.... U sound 2 damn intelligent to go for a thing like that. I posted for the benefit of others who may be um...well...less tempered.

and yes...good call whoever it was.... "The Build a man a fire" thing IS Terry Pratchet. Clever lil pumpkin.

and yes, I have seen the movie and plan to see it many more times. Busy showing the Firefly DVD's to all my friends who will watch (they havnt failed to hook a fan yet...cept my lil brother...but anything I like he doesnt. just the way it is).

Welcome to the board Daria28! Glad to have you come out of lurk mode & post w/ us.

Browncoats may be too pretty to die, but we are sure as the Special Hell too stubborn to quit! That is why we never gave up hope, and we pushed to get the DVDs & the movie. Now we just need to push to make the movie successful.

You might not have been involved w/ helping before Daria, but you can certainly help now when we need it. Convert your friends & family. Spread the word about the movie & take people w/ you to see the movie on opening weekend. Go again while it stays in theatres. Take someone w/ you to share the joy of Firefly/Serenity.

We need 80 million globally to have a shot of getting a sequel. With your help we have a shot to keep flyin'!

I will definitely be buying a ticket for Lux each time I go. Didn't get to know him too well, but he was one of the best. I know he will be there in spirit.

Thanks for the welcome Browncoat1! I'll definitely be trying to make some last minute converts before the movie comes out.

Also I work at a TV station (a FOX affiliate, believe it or not) so on Sept 30 I'll try and air Serenity clips as much as I can during our entertainment/movies block.

You know what's cool? If there's a contest for which browncoat has gotten the most tickets, Lux will win. If he could use all the tickets we buy him, he'd see it more times than any of us are able to.
