Apparently UIP and Joss did not forget Asian flans! This is the one and only Serenity screening in Taiwan before it's offically released. The BDM release was previously scheduled on December 2ed, but now the status has changed. UIP will be likely to move up the release date if this screening goes well. And if not, this might be the only chance of seeing Serenity for browncoats in Taiwan.

The pre-screening takes place in Showtime Cinemas on Wednesday, Sept. 14th, 7:30 pm in Taipei.

(For people in the states, this is about Tuesday, 7:30 in the morning in Eastern time.)

If you, or your friends, live within, or near Taipei (Capital of Taiwan), you can obtain your tickets by:

- Buying your tickets online, or just drop-in at the box office before the movie starts.
(YEEEES, this one costs money, but I don't care.)

Ordering info:
http://www.showtimes.com.tw/06hot/0141.htm
(It's in Chinese. Sorry I cannot found its English version.)

- How can you get there?

Showtime Cinemas, is 247 LinSen North Road, Taipei. This place is actually right across Grand Formosa Regent hotel, a very famous, luxary hotel.
Here is a map ...

Currenly only 35 out of 216 seats are booked.

Tell your friends in Taiwan! Make the signal go further! Wave our arms around!

If you (or your friends) have any problems regarding buying tickets and transportation, I will be more than happy to help.

If you can teletransport yourself to Asia, that would be awesome.

I think it's promising that it might release BDM in Japan. However, the film marketing works very differently in various countries. Keep in mind that Serenity is an English-language film, with very little marketing, and it has to compete with Japanese, Korean, and Hongkong blockbusters, also distributed by UIP, in the SE Asia region. Moreover, Firefly had not aired on any SE Asia country. I believe this is the reason why UIP is holding Serenity back in this region. Without the buzz, the distributors are always less than reluctant to put it on.

I do think there is a chance for Asian releasel, Since films are always release later in Asia. This lag is to make time for translation, subtitle, voice-dub, and the sensor of the local film board. Often this is also a period to see how the American market goes. If the BDM proven to work magic on most of the non-flans after the 9/30 premier in US, then the probability of Asian release will increase significantly.

Currently UIP Singapore is planning on release it in Jan. 19th next year. UIP-Japan has no word on it yet, but I think Asian fans will eventually get to see Serenity.

I lived in Taipei, Taiwan for 7 years. The movies there work a little differently than here in the USA. Firstly, there's assigned seating (each ticket has a seat number on it) and they take the tickets at the door to each individual theater (no sneaking into movies :( ). Secondly, there is a government agency that screens all international movies before they are granted (or not) permission to be released in theaters. Thirdly, they are much better at advertising movies (regardless of how well it was advertised in the USA).

This is so awesome! Too bad I don't live there any longer and neither do my friends. *damnit*
