Color me more than a little confused here, but I wandered past amazon.com and noticed the novelization now says it's shipping.

They also include a excerpt from the book:

Maybe?

The

Film

Now I haven't seen the movie, but this excerpt seems to be word for word the opening scene of the pilot. Is this a novelization for the film or the series?

yeah, thats a narrative of both the opening scene of Serenity (not the movie but the pilot) as well as another scene that Joss was gonna do in that episode, but ended up nixing it.

id bet that its a novelization of maybe the pilot? cant imagine it being of the whole series; would be a long book if that were true. but, if it is out now, then i shouldnt be about the movie; who knows? tis odd.

When the stars shine bright through the engine's trail and the dust of another world drops behind; When my ship is free of the open sky, its a damn good day to my way of mind; Theres a barren planet you never can leave, theres a rocky valley where we lost a war; Theres a cross worn 'round a soldier's neck, theres a man's faith died on Serenity's floor, but i stood my ground and ill fight once more; Its the last oath that i ever swore

That’s the official movie novelization, by Keith R. A. DeCandido (who posts here as Krad). It is the novelization of the “Serenity” film, but includes a prologue that is a combination of the filmed and deleted opening scenes of the pilot. I assume this was done to provide additional backstory for Mal. The rest of the novel deals exclusively with the film, but with this prologue they can excerpt it without spoiling anyone (pretty nifty). Books are released by months, not specific dates, so in some places it’ll be out before the film.
