MARCOZAMBI

Hi all!
I've just registered.
I am an Italian fan of Firefly. I bought the Firefly's DVD on Amazon and this show just captured me.
I was wondering how it has been possible to cancel such a show.
I have few questions.
a) Is there someone that can give me a summary on what happened exactly to force Fox to cancel the show?
b) Is there any news about new Serenity film here in Italy?
c) Is there any possibility that some network (maybe SciFi channel) buy the rights of Firefly from Fox and produce a "season 2" or something similar?

Sorry for my bad english.

Marco

Hey marcozambi,

welcome to the boards. Don't worry about your english, it's a helluva lot better than most native speakers (myself included).

a) I expect that lots and lots of members will tell you why. Part of the reason is that FOX simply did not understand how to market this show. They basically torpedoed the show before it even aired. They did not air the pilot (Serenity) until they had cancelled the show. Instead they aired "the train job" first and then aired subsequent episodes out of order. They also pre-empted the show a lot for baseball, rescheduling the show to the friday night death slot in place of the newly cancelled show Dark Angel. Of course Dark Angel fans destroyed the show online in their anger at their show getting cancelled. This all led to low low ratings.

b) October 28th is the release for Italy. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379786/releaseinfo

c)Very low. Recently Joss said he would be open to doing more seasons on TV, just not with Fox. But of course if the movie is a success, he'll probably want to do a trilogy first and then maybe do a TV series. Like I said, very low possibility. =(

hope that helps =)

Hi!
Thanks for you kind and prompt response.

Thanks for a) and b).
So, at last, we'll have this film here in old, dear Italy.
Yeah!

About c), what do you mean with "trilogy"? Does Joss intend to crate a trilogi like Star Wars?
I hope it could be possible.

Speaking generally, Firefly is such a good show that it's unfair it cannot be continued in some way.

Ciao

Marco

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the site Marco. Glad to have you with us.

Yes, Joss (& all us fans) are hoping that the movie will be successful enough that Universal will greenlight sequels. Joss has the cast signed to do three movies in the event the first does well enough.

I hope to see three movies as well.

Firstly don't worry about your english, its fine, and a hell of a lot better than my Italian...
Joss was at the screening here in London and answered a few questions for us. If Serenity does well, he will be doing a sequel. Presumably if that goes well he'll be doing a third film.

It would be nice to see FireFly return to the small screen, but chances are short...
life is unfair unfortunatly...
Well at least FOX has all that time and money to focus on reallity TV now, so at least axing FireFly was worth it...
No, wait...

Q: What do you have when you are holding two little green balls in your hand.
A: Kermit's undivided attention.
