JAMIECHAMBERS

Hi boys and girls!

I'm coming to you live (sort of) from back woods of Kentucky -- check out www.doeruninn.com to check out where we've been -- preparing to make the final leg of the journey tomorrow to Indianapolis to set up for the Big Damn Convention, otherwise known as Gen Con. www.gencon.com (More information there for those of you not in the know.)

For those of you wondering, I am tickled pink (and other colors) to report that we WILL INDEED have the Serenity Role Playing Game at the show for your enjoyment. This is a big, full-color book chock full of gaming goodness, plus pictures and quotes from a certain film coming out this fall. We'll be running games throughout the weekend, so I'm sure you'll hear reports filtering in from just about everywhere.

Those of you heading out for the show, please stop by Booth #611 to see just what I'm talking about. We'll be there all four days, and Mr. Ron Glass will be signing autographs in our booth on Saturday -- no autograph charge for signing the Serenity Role Playing Game! (See show schedule for more details.)

We have lots of other cool offerings, including a new Dragonlance game product, novels by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, and a board game that can be played on the back of a T-shirt. www.shirtoffmybackgames.com

For those asking about the Serenity RPG website, you are all correct to wonder. We have a very cool website well underway, but needs a few more things to get up for all to see -- things we can't do while hundreds of miles away from the office.

Spread the word, gang, and please check out the shiny new game. Coming soon... the report on our Dragon*Con offerings and an official-as-you-can-get street date for the game at hobby and book stores everywhere.

Thanks to you all! This has been an amazing ride so far, and I can't wait to show everyone just what we've been working on.

** Jamie

Hey Jamie thanks for the report!

SO.VERY.GLAD that the RPG books will be at GenCon... in person! It only took a marathon of hard work and lots and lots o' stress... Easy peasy...

Have you seen the books?! Held 'em yet?!! Huh?? Huh??!! Have ya? HAVE YA?!!!!

Not that I'm in any way jumping up and down with curiosity or anything...

Have a great time, say howdy to Renae and Margaret for me, and pimp that book. Oh yeah, and give Ron a kiss for me. (See? Now you have a cover story.... )

Well I got mine and I also got in the Serenity Q&A tonight. I got to say the art looks good and the system has some merits. I am working through the mechanics. But I am just happy to have the details.

I have one question will we be getting any other support materials for the game? And if so. When and what and if not why?

Wow... great news that the books arrived safe and sound. Can't wait to see them in person myself. Always a bit concerned about how the "translation" of the images made it through all the levels of uploading and publication processes. Good to hear that it looks good.

I believe there are definitely more plans for additional, related items. One of the factors is that licensees only have a limited amount of products they can produce at a time. New agreements need to be set up for additional, approved products. So the thing is to pick the main things first, and then work on from there.

Also, from what I understand, the plan from Universal/Joss is to not have too many licensed products. Having too many product tie-ins starts to work against their "specialness".

According to GamingReport.com:

"The Serenity RPG from Margaret Weis Productions has sold out of all hardcover books at about 10:30 this morning (Friday) at GenCon 2005. The publisher is sending them 150 softcovers which are expected to arrive tommorow by noon. Serenity is being released at the end of September."

Man I KNEW I shoulda driven out there. Still wouldna been able to do it Friday, though!

Ack!

We started Thursday with 500 hardcover books. When the hall opened a stampede of excited Browncoats overtook our booth with enthusiasm that completely overwhelmed and humbled me--creating a line that wrapped around our booth and crossed over three aisles. I signed books for hours and the line never seemed to end.

Naturally, most of Thursday was a blur. When the hall closed, a quick inventory revealed that we had less than forty books left! Every box was empty, and only what was already out on the racks remained. Those last books were gone half an hour into the show on Friday.

We've commissioned a special softcover printing of the book to let us get more books in the hands of fans for the weekend. It will only be a few hundred, but it's something for folks who really want to see the game!

This afternoon we have the honor of hosting Mr. Ron Glass in our booth, who has been friendly and gracious to the fans who have visited him in the general autograph area.

Game demos continue, so you can expect to hear soon how the game plays as well as how it looks. The feedback so far has been very enthusiastic.

Thanks all! Talk to you soon. For now, it's back to work.

Wow, that's great news! Heehee, Browncoats can be overwhelming at times. ;) Can't wait to get my hands on this book myownself! I hope the long line at the booth is getting the attention of non-browncoat attendees. As in "What am I missing here?" Great work, guys!

Hey Jamie, thanks so much for the report.

Aaaaahhhh... "sold out"... I'm taking those words as a pretty positive response to the book...

Saw your post on the 'Versal board and thought I'd add the link to the picture of you, Renae and Margaret Weis at the booth. Oh yeah, and that book thing that I still need a clearer picture of...

Hey there! Happy to help.

On deck is the Serenity Game Master's Screen, which will also include a booklet of supplemental game information. This product should be out later in the fall.

By year's end, we will also have a 96-page adventure to help launch (or continue!) a new campaign. It is designed to work with both the Serenity crew and existing characters.

We hope that the movie and game will be successful enough to continue, and plan to propose new products to Universal for 2006.

I'm new to posting here, but just wanted to report that I love the new RPG that you and your people put out! I'm switching my Firefly campaign to the Serenity system ASAP, and my group's happy to hear about it. I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the book, from the artwork, to the stories, to the game mechanics.

All RPG's based on movies or fantasies have their inconsistencies as we move from the real to the fantasy, but I was delighted to see that your RPG strives to keep as much in believable context as possible. It also does something which I'm a big fan of, which is to leave a lot of room for creative GM's to explore and create.

My friend and I were elated when you moved to garner more tables so that you were able to run more demos of your system. The GM I ran with, (Floyd), was phenomenal. He clearly enjoyed what he was doing, and I must admit that I enjoyed the chance to play Mal. The opportunity to role-play Mal when my friend Botched his roll as Jane to shoot Patience's hired hand in the head, and ended up shooting Patience in the head was hilarious. I'm glad to get the opportunity to thank you for taking the extra steps so that we had the opportunity to learn the system 1st hand.

Time to cut this ramble off. I'll be interested in additional products, as I'm happy with what I've seen so far. And if there's a quick guide available before my local convention, I'd love the opportunity to run a demo of it.

Thanks, once again.

P.S. Keep up the good work, Hour!

-Jaime
