DARK6JEDI

I just recently saw the trailer for serenity and read up on some of the episodes that came out in 2002 for firefly. I have to say its spot on copy from one of my favorite animes "Outlaw star" created by Takehiko Itoh in 1998. Other then name changes and a few minor differances this looks exactly like "Outlaw star".

Being new, I'm not sure what others have said in regards to this topic...

When I first saw Firefly, I had the same feelings as you; I was sure that the two shows were similar in more than a few ways. Not only that, but I had myself convinced that some of the music sounded exactly like another anime, Trigun.

The short answer, in my opinion, is that space westerns are bound to have similar scenes and music. This doesn't necessarily mean that the shows are meant to be similar, just that ideas in a futuristic wasteland are similar. If that makes sense at all...

In space, no one can hear you swear in Chinese.
But once Serenity hits two miles above ground, you can hear River yell and toss things about.

I love outlaw star and i love firefly, but i couldn't disagree with you guys more. i think the only two things those shows have in common are umm spaceships. unless jayne is actually a kataral kataral....or however that's spelled.
yeah.
sorry, i'm not following you guys on this one.

I saved latin, what did you ever do?

I'm referring more to epic space battles and things rather than characters. Though I suppose Mal has a slight Gene-ness to him.

But I may be getting my Anime confused. It's been a while since I've seen Outlaw Star. I could be thinking of one of the Gundam series or something.

Could you be confusing your anime AND show? Or did you actually mean the complete LACK of epic space battles (or actually any space battles at all)?

I could have sworn Dark6Jedi is very very similar name to a troll who was bashing Firefly in favour of Star Wars a while back, isn't it? Or am I totally misremembering? If I'm not, then this seems like just the exact same sort of thing with names changed.

I've never seen Outlaw star. But, hearing this I did a little bit of looking at summaries of characters and episodes and I don't see much that resembles Firefly overmuch - sure, there are bits here and there that kind of look similar, but you can find that between any two shows with a similar premise (like 'space western' or 'space show focusing on honorable criminals' or whatever).

I'm not quite sure anymore. Maybe doing a marathon of Firefly was a bad idea. Or, better yet, maybe it was a good idea and the fact that I figured ranting about Serenity with my cousin took priority over sleep was a bad idea.

It seemed like a happy thought at the time.

I'm gonna go to bed, read The Picture of Dorian Gray, and then come back when I have coherent thoughts and won't just let my fingers hit keys.

The animation in Firefly is MUCH better; very realistic!

(Alternatively, the actors in Outlaw Star don't look well....)
