Ever heard the term (title of this post) before? Neither had I until some idle web surfing brought me across the term. The phrase is used to describe a show when it has reached a point when its not worth watching anymore. Of course Firefly never got far enough to get anywhere near there! But nevertheless its listed here:

Just click search (in left nav bar) and type "firefly".

Only a few more "never jumped" votes and it gets safe passage on this site. Shiny!

The term "Jump the shark" jumped the shark about 4 years ago.

Yes, but pointing out that the term 'jumped the shark' jumped the shark, jumped the shark only a few minutes after that. ;)

After that post StarPilot, looks like this thread is far from Jumping the Shark. There's still heaps of character/poster development left and thread/plot twists to write on! Also as long as none of our posts gets killed off/modded first.

"Jump the Shark" has become such a part of my standard vocabulary I guess I didn't think ppl still existed who didn't know what it meant.

I agree that Firefly never jumped. In order to jump, a show must reach a high point that (only later) is viewed as the greatest golden age of the show. From there it's on a steady decline to oblivion. If you ever watched the episode when the Fonz actually jumped the shark it was indeed pretty awsome...and every episode afterwards was never as good. And some time later as the quality eroded to meaningless crud the show gasped it's last breath.

Do not fear me. Ours is a peaceful race, and we must live in harmony.
