I posted this in the wrong place initially, into the "fireflyfans.net central" board.. I hope you don't mind my reposting it here, where I think it should be.

Hi, I'm new here but am looking for a little help. I decided I wanted to make a series of animations based on the Firefly verse (more precisely, based on a campaign in the Serenity RPG I'm playtesting), and it will be my first real full length animation.

The drawing side of things I have down, for the most part - it's the sound effects that I need help with! Does anyone have a few good clips of the atmospheric effects they tend to use in the series? I mean the things like the little guitar riffs, possibly the reaver theme (though I might like to make my own version or use something else, to avoid complete repitition), the sounds of the vehicles, of people opening the hatches (though I could find equivalents, probably), and that sort of thing?

If not, could someone point me in the general direction of good free DVD sound capturing software? I'm running OSX 10.4.

Also, I don't suppose any of you know where I might find a 3d model of a firefly class ship? I would love to have my own little model to pose and explore for reference - it'd save me from searching through episodes for good impressions of what the engine room, cargo bay, deck, and bedroom structure look like. Well, I have a good impression since I have been studying it, but I'd still really like a model so I don't miss the finer points!

I know I'm being mildly ambitious, but I like that. I've got the first .. 15 or so seconds done, and it's taken 15-20 hours. If I was to redo it it'd probably take about 10 hours, and might be higher quality since I've learned quite a few tricks already.. but I'm trying to keep my forward momentum! Oh, and this isn't my first animation ever - I've done plenty of other things, from an interactive self portrait incorporating my art portfolio with my flash design, to maxing out Final Cut Express with over 40 layers and a 5 minute long animation to the tune of Grieg's Morgenstimmung and Orff's Carmina Burana :). I wouldn't be doing this if I thought I'd be sodomizing the series by giving it a try.. though I do see it as more of a learning experience than anything.

If anyone can help me out in some regard, thanks!

I'm currently modelling a model of serenity in 3Ds max, but the only full 3D model i know of is Sean Kennedy's Lightwave model here:

Hope that helps in some small way :).
