Hey! Scanning through TV Guide's issue this week (centering on sci-fi related series this summer) what did I see in the Cheers and Jeers section but our BDH! True, only a quarter page in an already (physically) small publication, but that is still a lot of eyeballs...

Is it a spoiler if I say whether we got a cheer or a jeer?

See the scan in the Blue Sun Room ...

TV Guide is a more or less reputable publication, how could they give FF less than cheers?
Unless they're jeering Fox for the cancellation...

Weeeeelll, TVGuide is actually a *Big* publication as far as circulation is concerned, so it's a cool thing to be mentioned favorably in one of their more popular columns. I know I often skip the other features, but I always read "Cheers and Jeers" because no one has to sign their name to it, so it's often snarky but true!

What I'm hoping for is that the BDM ends up getting a feature article in TV Guide. Lately they have been doing a lot of articles about movies that don't really have a lot of TV tie-ins (Like the current week's Fantastic Four cover article). The BDM has a great TV tie-in story and so should be worthy of a feature article. Might not be big enough for the cover (especially since the release date is in the midst of the new TV season), but even a two pager inside would be shiny.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I'm not about to go looking any gift horse in the mouth. A cheer from TV Guide will be seen by a ton of people and perhaps even get more than a few of them to shell out for tickets come September.

Thanks for posting this for us Trogman.

SKYDANCE

By way of anecdote, I'll remind you of this: TV Guide did a full story on Firefly, back when the show was on television. The catchphrase was something like, "The Best Show You're Not Watching." I ended up watching one episode, as a result of that article.

Unfortunately, the episode was Bushwhacked, and as an introduction to the series, it didn't really work. I had no idea what the relationship was between these people, no idea of the deep emotions behind Mal's history with the Alliance, and the kid-turned-Reaver thing was nice, but not enough to carry a series. River was just completely confusing! *laughs*

It wasn't until I saw the pilot, years later, that I "got" the show.

An mention in TV Guide is going to reach a lot of people, no question about it.

LISTER

Does it seem to anyone else that Serenity is starting to become the "it" movie this year? I think the strange pre-screening thing and the story of how the movie came to be is drawing a lot of curiosity, but even more than that is how hard it is to get a ticket to the pre-screenings. It almost takes on a "must-see" type of persona sort of akin to a popular broadway play. Reviewers want to celebrate a movie that goes against the Hollywood norm, even if they don't quite get it. At any rate, it's just something I've been noticing lately and it just keeps happening more and more.

I don't know if this link will work:

Otherwise, you can use Google to search the TV Guide site this way:

to get instant hits.
