That's right! THe man himself was in Riverside, CA at the screening! He signed autographs beforehand, and got a happy birthday song sung to him by all of us in the theater. He said he had had a great birthday, and they had been scoring Serenity earlier in the day. He was wonderful, witty, and I got to chat for a minute with him!

I thought it was really cute how fans tried to play it cool, not besieging him until he made it clear he was willing to hang out a bit --although perhaps not be humiliated with the birthday party hat they stuck on him--and he was a good sport. He looked really tired, said he had been scoring the movie... still, he stayed to take five questions after the movie. Won't spoiler to tell the first 4 questions, but the fifth was "Who is Book?" --Joss' reply was "Next question?"

[P]The Riverside/LA fans were great. I brought my parents to the screening, and they were really impressed with how dedicated and knowledgeable fans were, as well as how lowkey and friendly everybody was.
