Hi everyone!
I have a friend who runs a podcast, which is, for those of you who don't know, an audio blog. I sent him my copy of Firefly and he kind of liked it, but isn't a huge fan. He thought there were too many cast members and the first few episodes were a bit slow.
Anyway before he sends the set back to me he wanted to do an in-depth review of lone episode. He wants to create a commentary track that people can play while listening to the episode so they can hear his blow by blow thoughts.

My question to all of you is, if I pick one episode for him to air and talk about and emphasize, what episode should I pick? What episode best exemplifies firefly? This could be a great adveretising chance for listeners who haven't watched the shoow. I would be great to get them hooked.

I'd ignore the pilot (becuase it's two hours long) and probably skip the first four episodes, becuase it gets better later in the series. My thought would be "Out of Gas", though maybe that's too confusing to new listeners? War Stories, Ariel and Trash all require previous knowledge. Maybe "Our Mrs. Reynolds" ?

Any thoughts on the perfect episode to encapsulate the series?

i think our mrs. reynolds would be a great ep. people can't really hear him be moved by drama or whatever, but they can hear him laughing out loud! shindig might be another good one, depending on which he prefers.

Picking just episode is tough because for me the enjoyment comes from the ongoing story. Like many people I greatly enjoyed "Out of Gas" and "Our Mrs. Reynolds".

You might want to have your friend check out the audio commentary podcasts that the producer of Battlestar Galactica did...

Good luck,

Kevin, I know. It's probably impossible to encapsulate all the goodness of the 13 episode arc into one story, but I just want to do the best I can.

If your friend isn't that big a fan of Firefly why not have someone else who is (maybe you!) do the segment? I follow several podcasts and the software needed to create an MP3 file is free to download so almost anyone with a PC and a microphone can record something.

Just an "off the wall" idea.

I'd agree with Lissa on the idea of an 'easy' episode like Our Mrs. Reynolds to really win over someone not interested in the serious stuff like Out of Gas or War Stories.

Depends on the likes/dislikes of your reviewer - if they're looking for serious literary-like tv-making, Out of Gas is an obvious choice. But given that 9 cast members is too many (most serious shows these days have dozens of characters, if not primary cast), I'm guessing Our Mrs. Reynolds is more what you're looking for. Trash is great, too - but requires OMR to understand.

Seems we're all in consensus. Out of Gas to me is the most "firefly" ish out of all the episodes. It's also where you get the most info on the characters and their backgrounds (well, most of them.) But OMR is just hilarious and has some of the best lines and has Saffron, whom we all love.

Would be nice if you could do the podcast thing with him as someone suggested.
