400 years not so unrealistic?

Well if we are just now starting to detect potential earthlike planets. Give it another hundred years to find some decent habitable ones. Then another 100 for us to make some ships capable of traveling there. 200 years to get enough people there to start a civilization? Seems reasonable to me. If it was actually a goal of ours. Right now I can't say we're that interested in space exploration.

You gotta wonder though. If the USA was able to become a world super power out of a simple colony...what could a whole new colonized planet become? I'm sure there are plenty of countries who wouldn't mind staking a claim to a whole planet.

Manifest Destiny would take on whole new meaning, huh? Instead of the race to the Pacific, it'd be the race to the edge of the universe, everyone fighting over being the first to stick their flag on a new planet and claim it as its own.
