Am I the only one who doesn't like the logo?

BLINKER

I look at that thing and I don't see the Firefly spirit at all.

Not. At. All.

The original title screen was perfect. A Western burning-paper motif, sci-fi beams of light shooting out from it, and all this in the service of a sweeping cursive logo. It was a striking, memorable emblem of the show's identity, and pretty to boot.

This new one, while aesthetic enough in its down-home low-key way, brings me to envisioning warring samurai or a disillusioned Indian seeking inner peace or something. Not Big Damn Outlaws of the future. (Did I already do the "not at all" with the periods? Okay, good.) The only aspect of the 'verse it communicates is the Oriental influence, which is hardly at the core of the franchise.

Anyone care to talk me down from my logo hate?

GUNRUNNER

I like it, it’s a lot like the logo on the hull of Serenity.

AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

It is different. I think it has to do w/ the movie needing a more 'marketable' look. The simple firebrand Firefly logo, while cool, just didn't sell like the new logo.

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

REAVERBOB

I hear u Blinker,

seems to me that joss and tim and the rest decided to introduce the idea of the two world-power post-apocalyptic thing right up front with the new chino stylings, but i don't know if i appreciate it.

In its defence though and to make at least a half-assed effort to "talk you down" from up there on your high mighties, The oriental theme is very much at the core of both joss's original concept and the actual series, from the sensuous inara's tea ceremony to moralistic and duty-bound mal (honor,duty...sound familiar grasshopper?) , and perhaps the very fact that you feel that it is not is justification that the makers needed to do something different....hmmmm?

"Oh my god. What can it be? We're all doomed! Who's flying this thing!?" (deadpan) "Oh right, that would be me. Back to work."

CYBERSNARK

I'm not doing cartwheels for it either. I trust the eventual poster to do a better job selling it than the logo though.
