Lots of TV shows lately make extra revenue from advertising embedded in the show. Like a key actor drinking Coke, or the shameless Cisco adds in 24. Since Firefly is based way in the future and no current products would be successful advertising in it, could this be part of its doom?

Firefly had a product placement for Microsoft Windows in the episode "Trash" -- which unfortunately never aired. If you'll whip out your
DVD set, and look at the scene where Jayne and Kaylee are reprogramming the dumpster, you'll see a small embedded CRT and the evidence of the only OS that will never be taken over by a competitor in the 'verse...

NB: I wonder if Windows 95 will be released to open-source within the next 500 years? Nah, I didn't really think so either...

Programatically,
