If we're going to write bullshit liberal fluff, can we at least get the math right when we use it?

VOX: Your washing machine is actually a time machine

First I'll congratulate you on the title. It's a good article title.

And I'd be lying if I didn't say that there isn't a lot of good points being made in the article too. I think it took a record 4 paragraphs before I remembered I was reading a Vox article. But after that it was unmistakably Vox.

I love this paragraph here:

Quote:

You can see the ripple effects of that saved time. In Kenya’s Shangilia School, cutting washing time in half freed students for reading, football, chess, and study. Staff reported fewer aches and less stress about water access. In Uganda and Congo, families reported using saved hours for caregiving, and in some households, men began to share laundry duties — a small but telling shift in gender roles. There are economic gains, too. In Kampala, detergent spending dropped from around $63 to $20 per week after adopting the machine — savings that add up in households with annual incomes around $840.

Really? A savings of $43 per week on detergent after adopting the machine.

Holy shit. I don't spend $43 per year on washing detergent. Big Detergent in Kampala is fucking over the little guy like Big Pharma is fucking us here.

I know what my new business is now. I'm going to buy up detergent here in bulk at Costco, ship it to Kenya and underbid anybody selling it to them now.

Thank god for those machines though. The average household income of $840 didn't put a dent in the debt they were racking up ever year paying $3,276 for laundry detergent. I mean, they're still going into debt $200 every year just for detergent after spending every cent they made that year on nothing but detergent while not being able to pay any of their bills or buy food, but it is a huge improvement on numbers. There is no denying that.

And yanno...

When I started reading that article I thought it might have been leading to some moral of feeling a little bit of fucking gratitude to be living when you're living after all the hard work and inventing was done.

But no... It's celebrating that we can spread the agenda like seeds in the wind by offering people all over the world enough free time in their lives to end up as greedy and selfish and entitled and as shitty as the 1st world people have become.

Women's Lib....? Ha!

Not only did they make you go to work and slave for them just like they've had the men doing for the last 250 years, but they made you fight for it.

Congrats, of course, to all the Amelia Airharts out there... The women who have become doctors, or lawyers or have gotten themselves into politics. You certainly have been liberated.

But I'll bet my life there are a lot of angry fucking moms from the lowest of poverty to somewhere in the middle class that resent the fuck out of having to clock in at fucking Walmart for minimum wage while dumping their kids on their parents or anybody else who can take them.

Most women got fucked.

But they aren't the intellectual college graduates in $5,000 per month apartments driving around Range Rovers. The ones who had parents with good connections. The ones that write about how awesome being liberated is.

The only things that modern convenience has done for anyone other than be convenient is free up our time so they can take as much of it as possible for themselves while minimizing the importance of having strong friendships and familial bonds so they can take up most of your free time with bullshit when you're not working.

--------------------------------------------------

For all that I've blessed, and all that I've wronged. In dreams until my death, I will wander on.
