I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Reading THUGR's post re: all of the tanks and APCs supposedly taken out, all I could think of was... "...and you believe this shit?"

On the ground reports that Russians didn't do "shock and awe" they went in soft. All of the civilian infrastructure - water, electricty, trash, sewage, cellphones, internet - are still functioning. And despite that the Ukrainian govt has positioned heavy weaponry in heavily populated clusters like apartment complexes (and the govt is doing its best to get civilians killed... and all of the photo-ops that would create!), Russians are doing their best to avoid civilian casulties. What they are doing is surrounding those areas and intend to wait out resistance. Russia paused its operations to give Zelenskiy time to surrender, but the USA told him to keep fighting so they're going to fight on.

More on-the-ground observations from Kiev:

The govt handed out a bunch of machine guns to ppl, and there is reportedly some "score settling" among the criminal Ukrainian element.

The govt has called up a general draft: they want to hand out weapons to untrained civilians and send them in as cannon fodder (More photo-ops!)

GAS is still flowing thru the pipelines!

*****

What I'm curious about are the different "styles" of warfare that Russians employ. what they're doing in Ukraine is not what they did in Chechnya (mass destruction), Syria (air campaign), Kazakhstan (Spetznaz), Georgia (destruction of military forces and withdrawal), or Crimea (peacekeepers followed by vote) or even the earlier Ukrainian operations (proxy/hybrid war). This is not the "shock and awe/ total detruction" that the USA usually employs either. It seems manpower-intensive, smaller-scale fighting is the order of the day.

Trying to understand what they're thinking, I guess they don't want to deal with a destroyed country (like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya) and power vacuum, but this will only be a success if someone comes into power in Ukraine who will be neutral between Russia and the west, who can control the oligarchs, revive the economy, and turn Ukraine into a functioning nation again. I'm sure the Russians have someone in mind. I don't think they're going to wait for an effective leader to bubble up from the chaos.

But still... military operations first, I suppose. Since surrounding resistance forces takes a LOT of manpower, that will inevitably slow their advance.

Russia sends troops to put down Kazakhstan uprising as fresh violence erupts
By Olzhas Auyezov

ALMATY, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Fresh violence erupted in Kazakhstan's main city of Almaty on Thursday as Russia sent in paratroopers to put down a countrywide uprising in one of Moscow's closest former Soviet allies.

Police in Almaty said they had killed dozens of rioters overnight into the early hours of Thursday morning. Authorities said at least 18 members of the security forces had died, including two found decapitated. More than 2,000 people were arrested.

After a night of running street confrontations between protesters and troops, a presidential residence in the city and its mayor's office were both ablaze, and burnt out cars littered the city, Reuters journalists said.

The violence was unprecedented in a state ruled firmly since Soviet times by leader Nursultan Nazarbayev, 81, who had held on to the reins despite stepping down three years ago as president.

Nazarbayev's hand-picked successor, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, said he called in the Moscow-led military alliance of ex-Soviet states. He blamed the unrest on foreign-trained terrorists who he said had seized buildings and weapons.

"It is an attack on our citizens who are asking me... to help them urgently," he said.

Moscow said it would consult with Kazakhstan and allies on steps to support the Kazakh "counter-terrorist operation" and repeated Tokayev's assertion that the uprising was foreign-inspired. Neither Kazakhstan nor Russia provided evidence to support that.

Making sense of Kazakhstan’s ‘Bloody January’
By Peter Baunov in Almaty February 26, 2022

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev demonstrated unquestionable loyalty to the Kremlin by inviting in Russian troops to assist in quelling the unrest. Tokayev’s son Timur and ex-wife Nadezhda Tokayeva have long resided in Moscow. The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) in the past week cited a leak of Credit Suisse private banking data that unveiled various properties owned by the Tokayevs, including a number of apartments in Moscow.

Kazakh uranium, 42% of world production. Control over it is very important both for nuclear energy and in the event of a possible new arms race with the West. A joint venture with Rosatom would be a tasty morsel for Russian interests here.

Most Kazakhs do not hold what may be deemed clearly defined politics aside from their opposition to the ‘Nazarbayev collective’ and their desire to end the rule of the elite.

Links? How would you know where Ukraine is positioning its heavy weapons? Much of the population has bugged out and the ones that remain are trying to kill Russians. Ukrainians are willing to die for the chance to kill Russians, so I'm pretty sure they won't object to where armaments are placed.

I doubt it will help or that you'll read it or if you do, that you would believe it, but just in case:

https://news.yahoo.com/more-us-gas-production-wont-affect-russia-ukrai
ne-or-europe-experts-say-200717731.html

Seeking a way to blame Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on President Biden, some prominent Republicans have been claiming that increasing U.S. production of fossil fuel energy would liberate Europe from its dependence on Russian gas and undermine Russia’s position in the conflict.

Experts in the economics of energy, however, say that U.S. energy production hasn’t been scaled back by Biden and that Europe’s only path to energy independence is to transition away from fossil fuels.

First, U.S. fossil fuel production has not been “shut down.” According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, natural gas production increased in 2021 and is forecast to increase further in 2022 and 2023, while U.S. oil production roughly held steady between 2020 and 2021 and is forecast to increase this year and next.

Despite his pledge to end new federal fossil fuel leasing, why hasn’t Biden reduced production? Primarily because it takes several years from the time a lease is sold until the fuel from it actually reaches the market. In between, seismological surveys are conducted, permits are issued, wells are drilled and connected to pipelines, and so on. So Biden’s federal fossil fuel leasing pause — which, in any case, has not taken effect because of a court order — has not had any effect on supply, and his administration is actually handing out drilling permits on existing leases faster than Donald Trump did.

I can't believe I'm going to type this, but I actually like what Hannity is quoted as saying in that article:

"If he really wants to squeeze Putin, there is a plan that we should be implementing, and this would work. … Joe needs to communicate to Vladimir immediately, should have done it on day one, that we will out-pump him, we will produce more energy than him, and we will get it to our allies in Western Europe quickly and more cheaply,” Hannity said.

Points for Sean. It's still possible.

Biden* is just carrying out what they wanted to carry out before Trump won.

We staged the coup in the Ukraine of the Democratically elected president long before last week happened.

At least when the media is lying and hyping up battles between US citizens, they're only dumping pallets of bricks on corners and not putting military grade guns in the hands of people who never fired one before pointing the cameras on them...

Yet.

Hannity is just running his stupid mouth, as usual. USA can't do this year what Hannity thinks it quickly can:

As of November 2021, we estimate that U.S. LNG nominal liquefaction capacity was 9.5 Bcf/d and peak capacity was 11.6 Bcf/d. This peak capacity includes uprates to LNG production capacity at Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi.

By the end of 2022, U.S. nominal capacity is expected to increase to 11.4 Bcf/d, and peak capacity will increase to 13.9 Bcf/d, exceeding capacities of the two largest LNG exporters, Australia (which has an estimated peak LNG production capacity of 11.4 Bcf/d) and Qatar (peak capacity of 10.4 Bcf/d). In 2024, when construction on Golden Pass LNG—the eighth U.S. LNG export facility—is completed and the facility begins operations, U.S. LNG peak export capacity will further increase to an estimated 16.3 Bcf/d.

Meanwhile, Europians can handle a gas cutoff, but it will cost them BIG money:

In sum, Europe will suffer if Russia cuts off the gas; but that price will be paid from the wallet rather than through physical suffering. That cost will be exacerbated, predicts Jonathan Elkind of Columbia University, because “Europe is not starting from calm, but from a market on edge.” The continent’s energy markets have only just been through an early-winter price shock, and the price outlook for all energy commodities is ugly. JPMorgan Chase predicts that, even without a Russian gas cut-off, Europe will spend some $1trn on energy this year, up from $500bn in 2019. If the region were forced to consume its gas stocks to survive a Russian cut-off, it would then have to spend even more during summer frantically rebuilding its reserves to avoid an energy crisis next winter.

Sounds to me like none of those European countries can handle a gas cutoff either.

We're already paying $4.00 per gallon here on average because Biden* sucks at his job, and none of us appreciate Diversity Hire Jen Psaki coming out and saying that sacrifices are something we should be proud of.

Yeah. Go ahead. Tell the Bottom Quartile that you're going to raise energy costs even higher because they're supposed to give a shit about people half a world away from them.

At this point, why not? I don't imagine any scenario where Democrats escape the worst pounding of their lives in November. Might as well fuck everything up before they're out.

6ix, gasoline prices are set by refineries, not Presidents. The people who produce crude oil and distill gasoline from it have always been in control of their prices, except during wars when the Federal government sets the prices for them, much lower than prices that refiners would set for themselves. You really don't get it, do you 6ix?

If you look at price of gasoline, you probably think that if refineries are setting the prices, the price would be nice and steady. Wrong. It would fluctuate wildly in order to bring in the maximum profit. The fluctuations are based on how much money the customers have.

Putin's getting his H-bombs ready for the SOTU Address. Now I know why Republicans won't be at the SOTU . . . they are afraid of being nuked.

Putin warned last week that countries who interfere with his invasion of Ukraine will face "consequences you have never seen."

Putin ordered the Russian defense minister and the chief of the military's General Staff to put the nuclear deterrent forces in a "special regime of combat duty." The move signals tensions could boil over into a nuclear war.

Putin spoke at a meeting Sunday with his top advisers and said NATO powers had made "aggressive statements" and that the West was imposing hard-hitting financial sanctions against Russia and himself.

"Western countries aren’t only taking unfriendly actions against our country in the economic sphere, but top officials from leading NATO members made aggressive statements regarding our country," Putin said in televised comments.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation" that Putin's order is an unacceptable escalation.

"It means that President Putin is continuing to escalate this war in a manner that is totally unacceptable and we have to continue to stem his actions in the strongest possible way," she said.

Angela Merkel, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump are shot during a conference and die. . . .
Up in the sky, they are greeted by Saint Peter who says: “You have died. As you are politicians, surely you have sinned. Therefore you must wade through the Swamp of Lies before you can go to Heaven and join Him in eternal happiness.”

As in her former life, Merkel wants to tackle every challenge given and goes first. She notices the swamp barely reaches her ankles and thinks ‘Well, that‘s what you get for lying. At least, I did it for a better Europe.’

Curious about how the others are doing, she looks behind her and sees Putin covered in mud up to his knees. Furiously, she shouts: “This is impossible! Your reign was a dictatorship, you influenced world politics and economics to your benefit and you’ve achieved all that only by telling lies. How is it possible you‘re only knee-deep in this swamp?”

Calmly, Putin answers: “Hush! I‘m standing on top of Donald and he hasn‘t noticed yet.”

I would have been disappointed if you hadn't mucked this thread up too.

The real joke is Biden*'s approval numbers.

Sure, they can claim that he's 1 point above where Trump was at this time, but that was after 13 months of non-stop Legacy Media bashing every single day, much of it surrounding debunked RussiaGate bullshit that you guys couldn't stop posting about here at the time. Joe* is one point up, but that's with a Media that has given him a pass on everything they could possibly get away with passing him on and doing whatever they could to avoid giving him any negative coverage.

Polling in the last 12 years has shown itself to be highly skewed in the direction of Democrats, and there isn't a poll in the country that shows that Democrats are in a winning position.

Just biding time until the November punchline. You're going to love it.

Swiss banks host about 30% of all Russian overseas deposits. Moreover, about 80% of Russian trade in resources is handled by Swiss financial intermediaries. Until Monday’s decision, Russian individuals and companies were still able to access their Swiss bank accounts. The Swiss government also announced that it would ban oligarchs close to Putin and with significant business ties to Switzerland from entering the country.

I hope in the end you at least get the satisfaction of taking down your cartoon supervillain.

Because Joe was actually inching his way back to single digits disapproval in the spread on job approval a week ago but with the new numbers coming in he's back over -14.

The only move the Democrats running tight races in November have at this point is pretending that Joe* isn't President and leaving him completely out of their $75 Million dollar ad spots.

I don't know what they were thinking. Wagging the dog worked for GWB who sat comfortably with an approval rating over 80% at this time 20 years ago, but Joe*'s at 37% and falling.

Kerry, Sanders, AOC, and the rest of the Green psychos are directly responsible for this Ukraine disaster, and they have as much blood on their hands as Putin. By getting Biden to cripple America's once-dominant Energy production & exports, they gave Putin enormous oil and gas revenues and strangle-hold leverage over dependent Euro countries to launch his demented invasion.

ps. Every Republican ought to boycott brain-dead Biden's SOTU Address. Fuck him.

Are they allowed to turn their backs on him?.

Probably not. Once they're there they're kind of trapped into having to behave themselves. That's why they ought not attend the stupid fucking thing in the first place.

What's Biden got to say that anybody wants to hear anyhow ......

Economy - hey I fucked it all up
Energy - hey I fucked it all up
Foreign Affairs - hey I fucked it all up
Border security - hey I fucked it all up
Crime surge - hey I fucked it all up

If he says anything else, he's lying. The whole speech will be a sham and nothing but lies.

Unless he goes up there and says "everything is shit and it's all my fault" he's lying.

The only real question right now is "If a President* gives a SOTU address and nobody watches it, did Joe* shit his pants again."

Switzerland says it will freeze Russian assets, setting aside a tradition of neutrality.
(Opposing the Swiss, Trump praises Putin as ‘smart’ in latest Ukraine comments, blaming Biden totally for the Invasion. Trump also blames NATO, as does Putin, just so you know.)

GENEVA — Switzerland, a favorite destination for Russian oligarchs and their money, announced on Monday that it would freeze Russian financial assets in the country, setting aside a deeply rooted tradition of neutrality to join the European Union and a growing number of nations seeking to penalize Russia for the invasion of Ukraine.

After a meeting with the Swiss Federal Council, Switzerland’s president, Ignazio Cassis, said that the country would immediately freeze the assets of Russia’s president, Vladimir V. Putin, Prime Minister Mikhail V. Mishustin and Foreign Minister Sergey V. Lavrov, as well as all 367 individuals sanctioned last week by the European Union.

Switzerland said it was departing from its usual policy of neutrality because of “the unprecedented military attack by Russia on a sovereign European state,” but expressed a willingness to help mediate in the conflict. It also joined European neighbors in closing its airspace to Russian aircraft, except for humanitarian or diplomatic purposes. But said it would evaluate whether to join in subsequent E.U. sanctions on a case-by-case basis.

I do have to give Biden, the EU, and many others credit for really putting a stranglehold on Putin. Everything's closing in on the Russian people, and now even his billionaire pals can't get their money out of their Swiss accounts.

I fully expect Putin to be assassinated this week. Then the war will stop. Biden would love to report that news Tuesday night.

__ or __ Crazy fuck Putin will start launching nukes everywhere. Yee haw!

This shouldn't surprise you. Trudeau was able to make that happen easily in Canada.

You're next.
