Why do some now want to homeschool and escape the indoctrination

...why were Police and FBI sent to stop parent teacher board meetings? Even berat up a father who hears his daughter was attacked / raped
the school also covered up another assualt or rape?

During the Lockdown some parents got the chance to see what was really happening in the schools?

'CRT' exists but not as a Critical Racialist Philosophical School agenda, it is not a true subject, there is no exact Critical 101 Racialism theories Subject but it exists underneath and is un-official policy pushed, asserts that America was founded on racism and slavery, pushes pervert transexuals into school agendas, teaches AntiFa BLM rioter theory that rejects the core teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, and just because CRT may be an important part of the neo SJW wokeness movement doesn't mean 'wokeness' itself is important to CRT. The idea of CRT sometimes pushes the critcial anti-Police view of law enforcement it goes into the schools and college and university, justifies movements to "defund the police". In the USA math and English and Historty are now dumbed down to a 'Common core' level while the CRT movement itself has been around a while drawing power and getting inspirate from radical speakers in the Globalist Marxist movement, Black Panthers and other radical feminist movements from the 1960s and 1970s.

Sure that flag can be offensive but only if its used the wrong way, German btw wanted to ban all 'Nazi' or 'War' symbols including from video games, the Swastika for others was simple a Native American symbol or symbols for Buddhists and Hindus, for some its just a flag, it was on the Dukes of Hazzard tv show, of course you can ban the 'Flag of Mississippi' because its Confederate-ish but for some its jus history
Some African American Blacks like H.K. Edgerton simply wanted to honor their fallen acestors and respect both sides who lost lives in the historical wars.
he has featured on tv and expressed his personal theories about reparations on 'Penn and Teller's show Bullshit!'

and btw did you not follow the unorganized BLM Antifa protests that almost burnt multiple US cities to the ground, they started out as an 'issue' but soon came the anarchy, the chaos, the orgy of looting, murder, burning and violence.
The planning protests of Antifa and BLM = BURN LOOT MURDER

As a politicakl group Black Lives Matter protesters murdered at least six Blacks, including two Black policemen, they attacked and killed two children, and shot at least 3 other Blacks including one minor.

Their chaos and violence and protest and looting continues in Portland to this very day in November of 2021.

So, I'm going to grind on about CRT bc I still couldn't make sense of is the name, especially the "critical" part.

"Critical" as in "criticism"?
"Critical" as in "vitally necessary"?
Turns aout, they mean the first.

There is a thing called "critical theory", where social structures are critiqued. Critical RACE theory is a subset of critical theory.

Knowing that Wikipedia is not the definitive word on, well, anything, it does serve as a good intro
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_theory

Quote:

Critical theory is any approach to social philosophy
Social philosophy?
Quote:

that focuses on reflective assessment and critique of society and culture in order to reveal and challenge power structures.

Ok, so it is a critique of society that attempts to reveal and challenge power structure.

Quote:

With roots in sociology
Not a science

Quote:

and literary criticism,
Even less of a science

Quote:

it argues that social problems stem more from social structures
What are social structures?

Quote:

and cultural assumptions than from individuals. It argues that ideology
A set of ideas and assumptions, in this case shared amongst most of society

Quote:

is the principal obstacle to human liberation. When critical theory was first introduced, it was considered a form of social science, but recently some have argued that it should fall under a different category.
What category?

So, the explanation leaves me with more questions than answers. Wikipedia attempts to provide definitions and examples for my questions, but those are even murkier than the original explanation.

My main question revolves around "social structures". What ARE social structures? Thye provide examples: Class, family, the law, economy, religion. Seems a rather disparate list.

So, back to what promotes and maintains power relationships within a society because isn't that what they're really driving at? So far, a pointless exercise. Those espousing "critical theory" of ANY sort seem to be saying f we can only get people to look at things differently, things will change. As if attitude was the only thing needing change!

*****
So, backing up and starting afresh, what are the forces that promote and maintain power differences between groups of people?

Well, I suppose we can look to the RULES OF THE ROAD: formal law and unwritten rules. Both, in the end, are backed by force. Sometimes actual violence (police force) but also social disapproval if not outright ostracism. There were no laws against unwed motherhood "back in the day" but it WAS heavily frowned on and didn't happen very often.

Unwritten rules are hard to change, but written law is a relatively simple matter because it's in an open book. So if you want to chnge the power structure, I suppose the first and easiest place to look is to the law.

The second is PERSUASION. At one time, the Church was the source of much mass communication, but now we have television, movies, commercials, and social media, providing endless hours of normative examples of how society should look, how we should behave, and what we should aspire to. See the video "A Century of Self".

The third is ECONOMIC REWARD (which is a result of the "rules of the road" operating in an economy.) In farming communities, families were large because children were an asset and your retirement plan. In cities, children are a burden. People that becomes recently urbanized have large families, in three generations their families are much smaller.

So, I don't see the purpose of looking at each "social structure" and agonizing over the purity of their ideology when the levers of power are within open view. It seems a stupid pursuit.

*****

Also, entirely mis-directed (and misdirected with a prupose, I might add).

The median income for a black family in 2020 is about 46,000. The median income for a white family is about 76,000. Clearly there is something systemic going on.

On the other hand, that difference pales in comparison to the wealth inequality that exists today between the top 0.01% and the rest of us.

To use the football field analogy:

If we measure wealth distribution as stacks of $1000 bills on a football field, at one end we have a stack that is about 1/4" high. At the 50-yard line, where the median is, we have a stack that is about 1" high.

At the Jeff Bezos/Bill Gates end of the football field, their stack of $1000s is about 80 MILES high.

When you look at that kind of disparity, whether your group's stack is 3/4" high or 1 1/2" high falls into perspective.

Why are we quibbling about trivia? If they want to tackle REAL disparity on power, why are they ignoring the elephant in the room, and banging on instead about race? Are they afraid to challenge those with REAL power? Or have they found such cozy, well-paid sinecures to divert attention from the real problem?

Democrats started hating me because of my sex and the color of my skin only the last 10 years or so. I'm no fan of Republicans, but at least they aren't the party of racism and sexism, with every single fucking sentence that they and their Legacy Media cheerleaders utter just dripping with it.

https://www.newsweek.com/its-time-black-america-break-democratic-party
-opinion-1649223

According to Pamela Denise Long, they've been taking advantage of Blacks for 30 years. I'm sure it's a lot longer than that, but she's still young, so I can forgive her naivety.

Quote:

The truth is, white liberals have for the last 30 years used Black American civil rights wins to advance their own agendas. They've implemented destructive criminal justice laws and incomplete education paradigms. They have conflated discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender with the horror of anti-Black racism. They have prioritized immigrants and those they presume are legitimate refugees at our expense, distributing redress and now possibly even Reparations to those who knowingly broke U.S. immigration laws.

I agree Pamela. White college "educated" Liberals are the fucking worst.

I can't say that I care much for your job title: "trainer and consultant for implementing trauma-informed care and anti-racism", but at least your opinions as stated in this article seem pretty based.

I don't think that being Republican is the answer. I hate how far the Democrats have pushed me to the Right in the last decade.

How about we make our own party that tackles real issues and leaves the racist and sexist shit in the gutter where it belongs?

THIS is what CRT Indoctrinology is doing to kids when they're adults:

https://quillette.com/2021/11/30/what-is-happening-to-my-profession/

Note that it's only white people who have boatloads of money who subscribe to it.

Everybody else lives in the real world along with a majority of the minorities and don't know what the fuck these rich, white, woke dipshits are even talking about.

TIP OF THE DAY: Find something more productive to do with your rich white guilt, your free time, and you're excess money.

What's that? Oh... You don't want to actually part with any of that money you feel so much guilt about having, huh?

Pulling the ladder up after you it is then. Although I'm SURE your kids will all go to the finest schools even if they didn't earn it though, now won't they?

The Joss Whedon script for Serenity, where Wash lives, is Serenity-190pages.pdf at https://www.mediafire.com/two

Patriotism is the key to understanding the fight over critical race theory -

Author Kevin Drum

I don't know how long the fight over critical race theory will last. Conservatives are already showing signs of getting bored by it. But one thing is certain: it's a skirmish, not a war, and its origins go back, like so many culture war artifacts, to the decades shortly after the end of World War II.

It's no secret that ever since McCarthyism and Vietnam, modern liberals have had a fraught relationship with traditional ideas of patriotism. We are uneasy with open displays of flag waving and nationalism. We find unapologetic expressions of patriotism to be dangerously tantamount to jingoism. We are reluctant to say that the United States is the greatest country in the world.

All of this is understandable. If your country goes on communist witch hunts; if your country turns water cannons and attack dogs on civil rights protesters; if your country kills millions in a war in Vietnam—if your country does all this and more, how can you say in good faith that it's the greatest country in the world?

But this doesn't go down well with the half of the country that's unashamedly patriotic and distrusts anyone who isn't. Liberals have never had a good answer to this, typically mumbling something about true love of country being expressed by those who understand our shortcomings and are working to fix them. This has never been persuasive to anyone who doesn't believe it already.

And it's what the fight over CRT is really about. Nobody actually cares about the technical definition of CRT, and it's pointless to mock people who use the phrase without knowing anything about its origins and whether it's really taught in our public schools. Nor is it really about racism for most people. It's about patriotism.

The underlying question, as always, is this: How can you teach children the truth about slavery, native genocide, red scares, and other ugly episodes from our past, and yet also teach them that the United States is the greatest country on earth? Because this is what the CRT warriors really care about. They care about our children learning to love their country.

This, for example, is at the heart of the fight over Nikole Hannah-Jones' 1619 Project. It's not about minor errors of fact or even the factual content writ large. It's about what the authors think about America, a word I use advisedly. Do they think America is a great idea enacted by great people who made some mistakes along the way? Or do they think that America is at root a racist country created and built by racist white men who also did a few good things along the way?

The former highlights both the ideals of our origin and the events in our history that make America admirable—democracy, personal liberty, economic dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit, religious tolerance, victory over fascism and communism—and thus allows you to acknowledge even the most sordid chapters in our history while still believing that America is the greatest country on earth. The latter simply doesn't. It makes America no better or worse than any other country that prospered due to the blood on its hands.

And there it is. This is what the fight has been about for decades. How do we present American history to our children in a way that acknowledges the worst of our past while still teaching them that America is the greatest country in the world and well worth our unconditional love? And do we even want to?

If you focus on that, real compromises might start to appear. Or not. Maybe it's an impossible circle to square. But if you focus on anything else, you're certain to never do anything except evade what the real dispute is about.

"Our country, right or wrong" was a toast offered at a Washington banquet by Stephen Decatur--one of many, and coming towards the end. It's an good bet most of the people were drunk by then. Some wag equated it to "My mother, drunk or sober."
Carl Schurz offered his own version of it as a senator: “My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right.” He was cheered by the entire Senate. Today John Kennedy might ask him if he's a communist. (Different John Kennedy. This one is Republican and Louisiana, not Democrat and Massachusetts. https://www.kennedy.senate.gov/public/ )

Many of the people who are getting agitated about CRT thought it was fine when Trump palled up with Putin and denigrated John McCain, a national hero. US nationalism is not the impetus for the Trump movement or for the current reaction to the continued push for racial equality, which is what the CRT issue is all about. Youngkin didn't win by appealing to patriotism - he didn't rant about pulling down statues of George Washington (which he could have done), he ranted about teaching anti-racism in schools.

What is going on can be attributed to instinctive tribalism or nationalism, but it is developing into loyalty to a racist and plutocratic subnation. This happened before, when the Confederacy split off. No doubt the Confederates thought they had the true spirit of Americanism, but their actual loyalty was to the way of life based on slavery. Trump represents the more recent Jim Crow way of life, which is not as dominant anymore but still a major factor in the lives of many whites.

McCain was a far more appropriate symbol of true national patriotism, but when he ran for President he never got the kind of support that Trump has.

The main foundations of the developing split, which has been deliberately engineered by Republicans even before Trump, are racism and religion, not economics or true patriotism.

This sounds like the "America, love it or leave it" battles I remember when I was coming of age during the Vietnam War. It goes back further than that and it will go on as long as we're a country. Some people hear criticism as hatred of the country. Some see love of country as a celebration of all that's bad. There's no room for nuance, which is a rare thing in political debates generally, but especially in our social media age.

A lot depends on what's at stake. If people debate tax rates, e.g., there's usually room for disagreement. Vietnam was different because the country was at war and any criticism about what we were doing sounded (to some ears) like it might be support for the other side. I think it's even harder today because "the other side" is not an external but an internal threat -- one of our major political parties. And the enemy is one that a lot of people in the county have a longstanding affiliation with. The media generally fails to recognize the dangerous threat the party has become, and it treats any criticism of the party as normal partisan politics. Media often defers to the party as the true patriots, which only compounds the problem.

It's a challenge for liberals. The nature of progressivism is identifying faults in the status quo and pushing for reform. So liberals often are seen as the critics and that's going to rub some people the wrong way.

But now there's a real opportunity to flip the script. It's an open question if liberals can push an affirmative vision of what America and its heritage is all about, and push against the radical changes that conservatives are working night and day to achieve. That's what worked for Biden in 2020. That vision could be fleshed out more eloquently and with more detail.

These are the ONLY two reasons that a mindless meatpuppet of a former man got the largest popular vote in US history.

6ix, we all know you are lying constantly about anyone or any fact you dislike, as does Trump. Trump can get away with all that lying because he has the lawyers and money and doctors to protect himself, but the average Trump voter does not have those advantages and gets punished for lying constantly, sometimes by being divorced from a wife that is tired of being lied to, sometimes by almost dying because they lie about their health, sometimes bankruptcy because their lies catch up with them. Oh, all three things did happen to Trump. There is justice in the world, but justice didn't destroy Trump's life because his inherited wealth protects him. Trump voters with less money aren't always that lucky when they get caught lying.

Not true.

At least two people here know you lie about what others have posted.

True, you don't lie anywhere near as often as SECOND, who lies with just about every post. (HEY SECOND. Are you ever gonna apologize for libelling me a few hundred times?) But you HAVE made statements that even YOU know are untrue, bc you refuse to back them up with .. what is that word, again? You and Kiki both have a known history of deleting and altering posts you've made. It's a bad habit.

If anybody wants any evidence that I've never done such a thing, I invite them to peruse my post history. Particularly all the things I'm sure I don't even remember posting between around 2011 and 2016. I'm sure there's a lot of great stuff in there. Ted used to try to shame me for that, but I have no shame about it. If anything, it's excellent proof of how far I've come after hitting my personal rock bottom.

I remember what Kiki says. I don't need to sift through 7,000 posts in 3 different Covid threads to find her pro-tyranny cheerleading bullshit.

I'm not lying. She said all of it.

Only posts I've ever removed have been accidental double-posts. And AFAIK you can never remove a pat ENTIRELY, because the heading and date will still be there.

You're sounding like TWITCHY, who was convinced.. CONVINCED, I TELL YOU! ... that one of us (I forget who) posted that we should give all our nuclear weapons to Russia! And she was so convinced that we're such geniuses that we not only removed the content, we removed all evidence that it ever happened! And that Haken was colluding with us. Talk about delusional!

So show me where I "removed posts" by finding those empty frames, genius, or STFU.

I know you're not as delusional as TWITCHY. And I bet you won't bc you know you can't. So now you're doubling down on your lies, and STILL no evidence behind them!

Here's a hint on behalf of your own mental health: touch base with reality once in a while on this topic, willya?

You keep doubling down on my lie that I'm lying about Kiki and I'll go ahead and say whatever I want to say. Many other people here have claimed you and her change or delete posts. I've certainly seen her change her posts after comments were made on them. And since this website doesn't show when or even if posts were edited, I've called her out on that several times for the bullshit standard it represents after I had already quoted her in a reply only to see that her original post was later much different than what I'd quoted.

You've really gone off the deep end.

BTW you've NEVER been able to find even one single post of mine where I've posted what you've claimed - not even months and months ago where you lied and said I was 'terrified' or COVID-19, or when you said I was for 'full government control over everything'.

Now either I've been diligently erasing every single post like that the entire time - of course either knowing ahead of time which ones you might claim I've posted, so I knew ahead of time what I needed to erase ... OR ... carefully spending hours on hours removing all trace of those posts - or you're just plain delusional - like WISHI.

And yes, you're just plain delusional - like WISHI, who imagined Signy and I had an ENTIRE CONVERSATION over many posts where we said the US should give all its nuclear arms to Russia. Which we then, somehow, magically then erased every single trace thereof, with, of course Haken's help, because we had 'something' on him.

People really are that crazy, and no, I'm not surprised by it, either in her, or you.

BTW, as I've pointed out before, you and JO have a LOT in common, one of which is the vital need to be right about everything - to the point of denying reality when it contradicts your cherished notions.

If you know that you're going to be gone and make a note of that in the post, that's fine. I see JSF doing that all the time. If somebody loses connection and comes back later to change a post and lets that be known, that's fine too.

Although, it would probably look shady if it was done regularly, specifically during arguments.

Racial tribalism doesn’t have to be part of the curriculum to dominate education.

“Please keep your cameras on: we’re watching to make sure you’re paying attention.”

Our racial equity training is a 16-hour-long affair. It starts with denunciations of capitalism, the United States, and various aspects of “white culture.” You are encouraged to ask questions, but if anyone is brave or foolish enough to complicate the approved narratives, he will practically be laughed to scorn. How could you be so obtuse as not to see the centuries of racism you’re responsible for?

On day two, before bringing things to a close, participants are reminded that to be a part of our district, to fully serve our children, you must treat them differently based on skin color. Whites must see black children as inherently oppressed by white culture and values. Though you’ve never entertained a single malicious thought toward any child, let alone one based on something so frivolous as race, if you want to teach in public schools you will be made to affirm that children should be taught differently based on color. That their culture, values, dreams, and desires are inseparably bound to their genetic makeup. You as a teacher are expected to believe this if you claim to care about children at all.

Throughout my time teaching, coaching, and administering in Indianapolis Public Schools & Lawrence Township schools, I have been baffled by our expectations for teachers. In the name of reconciling generational poverty and the legacy of Jim Crowism, we mandate that students’ individualism be stripped away and resources be diverted directly to color groups. In this way we are supposedly healing the wounds caused by the United States and Western Civilization as a whole.

Though we teach the empirically false stories of the 1619 Project and Howard Zinn in our history classes to bolster this narrative, we don’t have to teach your children Critical Race Theory overtly. CRT, the view of American history as a systemically racist and evil nation built on oppressing racial minorities, doesn’t have to be taught in every course as a curriculum. We can use it more efficiently by making it the premise of all pedagogy, the background assumption of every class.

Almost every evaluation, every coaching session, every professional development is structured this way. Did you discuss the racist history of math with your students? Are you using culturally relevant music studies instead of white-centric music theory? How have you discussed environmental racism with your science class today?

In administration our conversations are filled with the bureaucratic nonsense you might expect, but with an added tone of bigotry. The first factor in any discussion is always race. Before socioeconomics, behavior, family composition, home life, or any other considerations, we assign a student’s color as the defining factor that will shape his or her success. When I’ve previously questioned this, I have been told that culture and color are too linked to make any other explanation possible.

This is abhorrent, and woefully ignorant. There is no reason that a rich black child from a two-parent home in New England has more in common with the poorer black child from a single-parent home in Indianapolis than the poor white student from a single-parent home in the same neighborhood.

Regrettably, the white student will be informed that he has access to enormous and ineradicable privilege, and that he is responsible for treading on his black neighbor. Years of slanted and falsified history education will confirm this to both children, and the other classes will reinforce it.

They do not stop with setting a narrative: they demand that your children themselves take up action as activists. Butler Lab 60, a K-8 school in Indianapolis, took six months to force students into a racial justice project, in which students were told constantly to mobilize and radicalize with all their talents and skills in order to tear down the “systemically racist” system around them. They don’t need to pull your children from you. They can just as easily turn them against you as a representative of the “old ways.” Private schools are already doing it in Manhattan. If Merrick Garland’s DOJ can label any concerned parent as a “domestic terrorist,” don’t you think they could say the same thing to your children in our classrooms?

Parents, racial tribalists are coming for your children. Ideologues seek them out because they are vulnerable, more likely to trust in absolutist generalities, and susceptible to social conditioning. The activists know they can form the next generation of our segregated utopia if they teach your children that certain colors are good, and others are bad. If we link culture with color, we can excuse bad behaviors and tear down positive ones. Start taking hold of your kids’ education—while you’re still able to.

SIX: I know that you're not a Russian Troll. I don't know if you edit posts or not. I know full well that Kiki does all the time.

I read KIKI's posts quite often. I can't say 100%, but I find them more informative that either yours or SECOND's.

a) I have NEVER read any post of hers that said what you claimed it said, and often said the opposite, and
b) I have not seen any evidence that any posts were changed hours or days after-the-fact.

I do know that I routinely edit posts quite a while later, depending on time-allowed, and I don't notify anyone of the fact. Bc I don't change them substantially, most comments made to my posts still apply.

SIX: Kiki will change posts hours after somebody has commented. I don't specifically remember you doing this.

Why America Is at War Over the History of Slavery by Wesley Lowery

https://www.gq.com/story/clint-smith-year-of-the-brave

A few years ago, Clint Smith told me about a new project that would take him to a series of historical sites—from Monticello to Angola prison to the Door of No Return in Senegal—to reexamine how these sites commemorate, and too often obfuscate, their role in the horror that was American slavery. Smith's aim, he told me, was to search for meaning in the way we tell the story of ourselves. Now, four years later, that project, How the Word Is Passed: A Reckoning With the History of Slavery Across America, is the breakout non-fiction book of 2021, a No. 1 New York Times best-seller (and top 10 book of the year) and one of President Obama’s annual picks, too. “In 2017, I was watching several Confederate statues come down in my hometown, New Orleans,” Smith said recently about the impetus of his undertaking. “Statues of P.G.T. Beauregard, Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, these leaders of the Confederacy. I was thinking about what it meant that I grew up in a majority Black city, in which there were more homages to enslavers than there were to enslaved people. What are the implications of that?”

The project couldn't have been more prescient. As half of the country earnestly searches for a new understanding of our racial history, the other half violently denies it. Half of our neighbors are demagoguing critical race theory, while the other half are busy reading it. Smith has bravely stepped into that fray, asking a large swath of the country to soberly consider how their communities, and even their own families, contributed to our nation's original sin. “You have millions of people who are recalibrating their understandings of what America was and what America has been and what America is today,” Smith told me. “And as a result, you have this incredible amount of pushback from people for whom asking questions of American history is an existential threat to them because then they have to ask questions of themselves.” He spoke with GQ about the history wars, a golden age of Black intellectuals, and what he learned while writing How the Word Is Passed.

GQ: Your book really meditates on the idea of memory—what we remember, what we memorialize—and how through that memory, we pass on our own history and we empower ourselves to live in our present. Why do you think that framework was so resonant this year?

Clint Smith: I think part of it is certainly that we are in this moment where we are having the “history wars,” which are sort of embedded within the cultural wars. And there are these conversations around Critical Race Theory and how that is shaping the educational landscape, even when we know that Critical Race Theory is being used as a boogie man to instill fear and a sense of a threat to one’s position within the larger American project. It taps into the worst existential fears of many people across this country. And so there is this battle happening, as has happened throughout American history, about how we tell the story of this country, who are we including in the story, and what are we leaving out of the story, and what are the implications that that has through the landscape of our society today?

I think part of what's happened is over the past several years with the Black Lives Matter movement, there have been more people—not everyone, but certainly more—whose understanding of the history of this country has been complicated, has been nuanced, has been expanded, and people are being more honest about what that history is.

I think the implication of that is that you have millions of people who are in the ongoing process of recalibrating their previous understandings of what America has been and what America is today. As a result, I think you have this incredible amount of pushback from people for whom asking questions of American history is an existential threat, because then they have to ask questions of themselves. And they have to reassess their own sense of who they are and how they fit into that. When you have been told a specific story your entire life about how you and your family and your community fit into the American story, and then people come in and tell a different story of America, or a story that includes a lot of facets that were previously left out, then it threatens your sense of self, it threatens your identity.

David Borsen, who’s one of the docents at Monticello, told me that when you tell a different story about Jefferson, then you’re telling a different story about America. And when people have to ask questions about, or reassess their understanding of Jefferson, they have to reassess their understanding of themselves.

YES, I DID.
THIS IS MY POST.
I'm clarifying your POV to understand exactly what YOU meant.

Quote:

Oh, THIS little gem??

You complained LONG and LOUD that your g/f had an abortion and didn't even tell you. You said you (and ALL men) should be part of the decision-making process bc, right now, all LEGAL rights belong to the woman.

Please let me know if I'm misrepresenting you in any way.

Therefore, your argument would go, men should have a LEGAL right in the baby-making decision. Therefore, you are against a WOMAN'S right to choose bc it should - partly- belong to the putative father.

It would be courteous if you tried to clarify with me what I meant. But, of course, you won't, so let me 'splain (since you didn't ask)

When I say "right to choose" I mean THE WOMAN'S, EXCLUSIVELY. YOU ARE AGAINST THAT. Correct? So. I'm not "lying" when I say you are against the WOMAN'S right to choose. We have been over this point so many times, even argued about it specifically, you can hardly claim to misundertand what I meant and then get all huffy about it.

But I'm looking at your example of vacccination. That's where I think your logical fuckup comes. When, IF, I get a chance to finish my thoughts I will post them. But I don't have time to continue stupid arguments with stupid people, so that point moght get dropped.

BTW: I added your quote after-the-fact to clarify what I was responding to, since SECONDRATE interpolated our discussion with his latest irrelevant hobby-horse (this time t's "slavery" since his mantra is the latest of wherever the liberaloid anti-American media establishment leads him.)

Signym and 6ix could continue this bitter argument on the telephone. A phone call would be quicker and wouldn't pollute this thread about Critical Race Theory.

There is about zero chance that phone call will be made, which is about the same chance they will download the book by Clint Smith “How the Word Is Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery Across America” from the mirrors at https://libgen.unblockit.tv/search.php?req=Clint+Smith+Word

I will give Signym and 6ix a sample of the book, but the chances of either reading it are about the same as them making that phone call:

“The whole city is a memorial to slavery”

Prologue

THE SKY ABOVE THE MISSISSIPPI River stretched out like a song. The river was still in the windless afternoon, its water a yellowish-brown from the sediment it carried across thousands of miles of farmland, cities, and suburbs on its way south. At dusk, the lights of the Crescent City Connection, a pair of steel cantilever bridges that cross the river and connect the east and west banks of New Orleans, flickered on. Luminous bulbs ornamented the bridges’ steel beams like a congregation of fireflies settling onto the backs of two massive, unbothered creatures. A tugboat made its way downriver, pulling an enormous ship in its wake. The sounds of the French Quarter, just behind me, pulsed through the brick sidewalk underfoot. A pop-up brass band blared into the early-evening air, its trumpets, tubas, and trombones commingling with the delight of a congregating crowd; a young man drummed on a pair of upturned plastic buckets, the drumsticks in his hands moving with speed and dexterity; people gathered for photos along the river’s edge, hoping to capture an image of themselves surrounded by a recognizable piece of quintessential New Orleans iconography.

After the transatlantic slave trade was outlawed in 1808, about a million people were transported from the upper South to the lower South. More than one hundred thousand of them were brought down the Mississippi River and sold in New Orleans.

Leon A. Waters came and stood next to me on the riverfront, hands in pockets, lips compressed, overlooking the Mississippi’s slow bend between the two shores of the city. I had been introduced to Waters by a group of young Black activists in New Orleans who were part of the organization Take ’Em Down NOLA, whose self-espoused mission is “the removal of ALL symbols of white supremacy in New Orleans as a part of a broader push for racial & economic justice.” Waters has served as a mentor to many members of the group—they see him as an elder statesman of their movement and credit him for being a central part of their political education.

Waters—in his late sixties with a greying mustache sitting over his lips—wore a black sports coat over a grey-and-white-striped shirt with the top button undone. A navy-blue tie hung loosely below his unfastened collar and swung over the waistband of his faded blue jeans. A pair of thin-framed, rectangular-shaped glasses sat high on the bridge of his nose, the left lens with a slight smudge in its bottom corner. His voice was low and unvarying in its tone. Waters might be mistaken for surly, but his disposition is simply a reflection of the seriousness with which he takes the subject matter he often is discussing, the subject of slavery.

We were standing in front of a plaque, recently put up by the New Orleans Committee to Erect Markers on the Slave Trade, outlining Louisiana’s relationship to the transatlantic slave trade. “It’s doing its job,” Waters said of the plaque. “All through the day people come in, they stop, they read, take pictures…It’s another way of educating people to this.”

In recent years, markers like this began to go up throughout the city, each documenting a specific area’s relationship to enslavement—part of a broader reckoning. After years of Black people being killed by police and having their deaths broadcast in videos streamed across the world, after a white supremacist went into a Black church in Charleston, South Carolina, and killed nine people as they prayed, after neo-Nazis marched in Charlottesville, Virginia, to protect a Confederate statue and reclaim a history born of a lie, after George Floyd was killed by a police officer’s knee on his neck, cities across the country have begun to more fully reckon with the history that made such moments possible—a history that many had previously been unwilling to acknowledge. Waters, who identifies as a local historian and revolutionary, was not new to this. He and others like him have, for years, been working to illuminate the city’s legacy—and by extension the country’s legacy—of oppression.

Only recently, after decades of pushing by activists, amid the larger groundswell of national pressure, have city officials begun to listen, or perhaps feel like they finally have the political capital to act. In 2017, New Orleans removed four statues and monuments that, it had determined, paid tribute to the legacy of white supremacy. The city removed memorials to Robert E. Lee, the general who led the Confederacy’s most successful army during the Civil War, a slaveholder; Jefferson Davis, the first and only president of the Confederacy, a slaveholder; P. G. T. Beauregard, a general in the Confederate Army who ordered the first shots of the Civil War, a slaveholder; and a monument dedicated to the Battle of Liberty Place, an 1874 insurrection in which white supremacists attempted to overthrow the integrated Reconstruction-era state government of Louisiana. These monuments are gone now, but at least a hundred streets, statues, parks, and schools named after Confederate figures, slaveholders, and defenders of slavery remain. On a cool February afternoon, Waters, the founder of Hidden History Tours of New Orleans, promised to show me where some of these vestiges of the past remain.

Waters drove me past two schools named after John McDonogh, a wealthy slave-owning merchant after whom dozens of schools, filled largely with Black children, were named until the 1990s; we drove past shops and restaurants and hotels where there once had been the offices, showrooms, and slave pens of more than a dozen slave-trading firms that made New Orleans the largest slave market in antebellum America—like the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel, built on the site of the St. Louis Hotel, where men, women, and children were bought, sold, and separated from one another; we drove past Jackson Square, in the heart of the tourist-filled French Quarter, where rebellious enslaved people were executed.

Even the street on which Waters dropped me off at the end of our tour, where my parents now live, is named after Bernard de Marigny, a man who owned more than 150 enslaved people over the course of his lifetime. The echo of enslavement is everywhere. It is in the levees, originally built by enslaved labor. It is in the detailed architecture of some of the city’s oldest buildings, sculpted by enslaved hands. It is in the roads, first paved by enslaved people. As historian Walter Johnson has said about New Orleans, “The whole city is a memorial to slavery.”

New Orleans is my home. It is where I was born and raised. It is a part of me in ways I continue to discover. But I came to realize that I knew relatively little about my hometown’s relationship to the centuries of bondage rooted in the city’s soft earth, in the statues I had walked past daily, the names of the streets I had lived on, the schools I had attended, and the buildings that had once been nothing more to me than the remnants of colonial architecture. It was all right in front of me, even when I didn’t know to look for it.

It was in May 2017—after the statue of Robert E. Lee near downtown New Orleans had been taken down from its sixty-foot pedestal—that I became obsessed with how slavery is remembered and reckoned with, with teaching myself all of the things I wish someone had taught me long ago. Our country is in a moment, at an inflection point, in which there is a willingness to more fully grapple with the legacy of slavery and how it shaped the world we live in today. But it seems that the more purposefully some places have attempted to tell the truth about their proximity to slavery and its aftermath, the more staunchly other places have refused. I wanted to visit some of these places—those telling the truth, those running from it, and those doing something in between—in order to understand this reckoning.

In How the Word Is Passed I travel to eight places in the United States as well as one abroad to understand how each reckons with its relationship to the history of American slavery. I visit a mix of plantations, prisons, cemeteries, museums, memorials, houses, historical landmarks, and cities. The majority of these sites are in the South, as this is where slavery was most saturated over the course of its nearly two-hundred-fifty-year existence on these shores, but I also travel to New York City and Dakar, Senegal. Each chapter is a portrait of a place but also of the people in that place—those who live there, work there, and are the descendants of the land and of the families who once lived on it. They are people who have tasked themselves with telling the story of that place outside traditional classrooms and beyond the pages of textbooks. They are, formally or informally, public historians who carry with them a piece of this country’s collective memory. They have dedicated their lives to sharing this history with others. And for this book, many of them have generously shared that history with me.
