I agree.

NOT being a Republican myself, and knowing full well my current tepid alliance with them is only circumstantial and very likely short lived, I don't think it's good for the country if Breyer were to hold on and end up dying or otherwise being unfit for the job when the Republicans are running everything again.

For now, with the current state of racism and insanity of the Democratic Party, the Republican edge in the Supreme Court is a necessary evil, but when things begin to normalize and Democrats oust their bad actors and become a party that isn't actively trying to destroy our country, it would be nice knowing that the Republican slant in the Supreme Court isn't so insurmountable that it will never be able to swing the other way.

All of that being said though, it looks as though the Legacy Media is scared that Democrats are about to get their asses handed to them shortly. Otherwise, they wouldn't even be suggesting such a thing.

. . . when things begin to normalize and Democrats oust their bad actors and become a party that isn't actively trying to destroy our country, . . .

My grandfather, the shoe salesman, said Social Security absolutely destroyed the country because people won't work hard and save for their retirement, expecting the government to take care of them. He didn't live long enough to collect Social Security. My other grandfather, the Klansman, said Medicare was communism. He didn't live long enough to qualify for Medicare. Social Security and Medicare were, using 6ixStringJack's words, Democrats "actively trying to destroy our country" according to my grandpa's. Not sure what 6ixStringJack thinks of those two Democratic programs. (As for my father, it is communism for cigarette labels to say smoking causes cancer. Seat belts in cars? It is communism. The switch to unleaded gasoline? Communism.)

Justice Breyer is not the first justice who stayed too long on the Supreme Court. Obama asked 80 year old Justice Ginsburg (twice diagnosed with cancer) to please, pretty please, resign, but she wouldn't:

The 2013 Obama-Ginsburg lunch that could have altered Supreme Court history — but didn’t

WASHINGTON — When Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg joined President Barack Obama for lunch in his private dining room in July 2013, the White House sought to keep the event quiet — the meeting called for discretion.

Obama had asked his White House counsel, Kathryn Ruemmler, to set up the lunch so he could build a closer rapport with the justice, according to two people briefed on the conversation. Treading cautiously, he did not directly bring up the subject of retirement to Ginsburg, at 80 the Supreme Court’s oldest member and a two-time cancer patient.

He did, however, raise the looming 2014 midterm elections and how Democrats might lose control of the Senate. Implicit in that conversation was the concern motivating his lunch invitation — the possibility that if the Senate flipped, he would lose a chance to appoint a younger, liberal judge who could hold on to the seat for decades.

But the effort did not work, just as an earlier attempt by Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., who was then Judiciary Committee chair, had failed. Ginsburg left Obama with the clear impression that she was committed to continuing her work on the court, according to those briefed.

Oh... and P.S.

It looks like the Legacy Media knows that the courts won't be packed by Biden* too, or they wouldn't suggest such a thing.

And P.P.S.

How's your HR1 coming along there, buddy?
