The Philippine authorities followed suit in September 2015, more than 15 years later. It kidnapped 20 people from a resort in 2001, including three Americans, one of whom was beheaded. In 2004, Abu Sayyaf carried out the worst terrorist attack in the history of the Philippines, targeting a ferry in Manila Bay, leaving 116 people dead. The following year, its militants carried out bombings across the country. The islamist group made several references to its links to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State. Authorities and islamo police in the southern Philippines announced that they had found the decapitated head of a Canadian tourist who had been taken hostage by Islamists. John Ridsdel, a 68-year-old former mining executive from Calgary, Alberta, was seized while on holiday near the city of Davao, on the island of Mindanao, by militants linked to the radical Abu Sayyaf group. Philippines maybe best know for its over seas dispora of guest workers, know for its famous sports stars, NFL linebackers, soccer stars, WWE wrestlers and know Ex-Pat Filipinos Dispora? and probably best know for all the wrong reasons. How can you make Sense of the Philippines, Former Marcos dictatorships, occupations, invasions, Philippine-American relationship under scrutiny, a former U.S. colony’s culture and politics....and European powers like the French, British and others probably wanted a piece of that pie, it was ruled by the Spanish for a while and invaded by the Japanese Imperial Empire during WW2.

The prideful Filippinos, the numbskull, the innocent farmer, the scam artist, the redneck patriot, the urban hoodrat trying to make a buck, the woman raising their kids, the hard working dad who went overseas...it seems everwhere you go there is someone who like 'Duterte' and yet he is said to be a dictator

Are the Phillipines simply tired of being 3rd and 4th place, are they tried of a history of getting fucked over by Spain, Japan, the United States you name it?

Is that why everyone see's him with pride? A protest vote like a Trump or a Brexit?

The Philippines is still a mess, theft, corruption, online scams, Philippines itself is a hotspot the theif the corrupt and bad character making a quick buck, run away women looking for a husband, a hotspot for gold diggers, lots of drugs and child abuse and pedophilia, as well as for a few Far East Asian "Al Qaeda" "ISIS" wannabes who have "taken over" some towns villages in Southern Philippines furthering the warmonger pedo founder of Islam's objectives, orthodox islam or fundamentalist islam. The Philippines has been the world's punching bag, getting invaded, punched down, pwned by the Spaniards, the Americans. They are their own unique peoples not really related to Chinese or Mexicans or South Polynesia S.Sea Islanders but in a ways related to everyone who has been in the Pacific. interbreeding with Spaniards, Chinese merchants, India merchants, US military personnel and Japanese sex tourists, invaders, mixing with their former imperialist masters has led to a people that has a unique Filipino culture by any means. -Far East Asians would often consider them exotic or almost Mexican/European while Europeans would consider the Philippine to be Far East or almost 'Oriential'. Then in 2016, in comes Rodrigo Duterte seized control of the country and created right wing crazy government, the Western media call him dictator and say death squads are out to exterminate all drug addicts and he might start a war now. I'm sure the picture is not pretty, many beats, jailed, shot, thousands arrested, beat down or have been pwn'd by now, not pretty... and the history of Western meddling in the Pacific and across the world is not pretty, anyone need to be reminded of Countries Where the U.S. Has Supported Fascists, Drug Lords and Terrorists, one character Brzezinski, known for his hardline policies on the Soviet Union, initiated in 1979 a campaign supporting mujaheddin in Pakistan and Afghanistan, which were run by Pakistani security services with financial support from the Central Intelligence Agency and Britain's MI6....who profits from these wars, from these politics and is there an Anglo-American Involvement in the Afghan Opium Trade, does it go back to the Cold War and South America and corrupt connections to Chile, Brazil, Haiti and other places and asking Colombian rebels to invest their profits in Wall Street? A powerful network of war merchants, world order globalist and rug lords, energy barons, elite bankers... Will the Phillipines break away from the global mafia?

No doubt Duterte is a dick and something of a dictator but....

But history catches up with even the most ruthless despots"In a press statement, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines described Duterte's arrest as "a crucial step toward accountability", stating it "sets an important precedent for addressing past and future human rights violations in the Philippines". In contrast, the Archbishop of Davao, Romulo Valles, said "Justice…must be pursued with fairness and integrity. It must remain free from partisan political motivations or personal vendettas", and offered prayers for Duterte and his family while reiterating calls for accountability.
United Nations – had a press conference, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani stated that they have "long documented the severe human rights impacts of the so-called war on drugs in the Philippines"
Duterte was arrested amid an escalating feud between the Marcos and Duterte political families.
