Trump went out a few weeks ago and declared himself the world’s best environmentalist. You’d have to ask yourself, why would somebody say something that was so ludicrous and obviously detached from reality? The reason is that he and his team recognized is they’re hemorrhaging votes like crazy all across America, and this is his weakest point.

About 70% of the people don’t trust him on environmental issues. This is the largest percentage of Americans who know that he’s a fraud. And so, I believe you should always attack Republicans at their weakest point. This is clearly their weakest point.

He made his legal and political career in a milieu where money and power override rules and law — indeed where the ability to get, and get away with, what lesser citizens cannot, is what proves membership of an elite. Cohn brought an aura perfectly calculated to attract rich men who are not quite respectable.

Trump found him irresistible.

“Trump,” the late Wayne Barrett wrote in 1979, “is a user of other users” — a keen, foundational insight, true then and true now. And with the exception of his father, whose fortune made possible the life he’s lived, Trump used Cohn more than he used anybody.

From 1973, when Cohn started representing the Trumps after the Department of Justice sued them for racist rental practices at the thousands of apartments they owned, through the rest of the ’70s and into the ’80s, when he served as an indispensable macher for Trump’s career-launching maneuvers, Cohn became for Trump something much more than simply his attorney. At a most formative moment for Trump, there was no more formative figure than Cohn.

The Final Lesson Donald Trump Never Learned From Roy Cohn, the unrepentant political hitman who taught Trump how to flout the rules, but Cohn didn’t get away with it forever.

Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, denies asking Ukraine to investigate Biden -- before admitting it. What did Trump promise the President of Ukraine? The smart money now thinks that the whole whistleblower complaint centers on Ukraine. Namely that Trump promised the new president of Ukraine $250 million in armaments if he’d reopen a criminal investigation involving Joe Biden and his son. Trump just doesn’t know when to quit.

What is funny is that Trump is exactly like Roy Cohn, who didn’t pay his bills, all but daring his creditors to sue him for what he owed — tailors, locksmiths, mechanics, travel agencies, storage companies, credit card companies, stationery stores, office supply stores. He didn’t pay people back, “friend or foe,” wrote Cohn's biographer, Nicholas von Hoffman, who reported that a captain of his yacht called Defiance “had a mental map” of “ports we couldn’t go into because we owed thousands of dollars.”

He didn’t pay his taxes, either, racking up millions of dollars in liens. Taxes, he believed, went to “welfare recipients” and “political hacks” and “bloated bureaucrats” and “countries whose people hate our guts.”

The less discussed but arguably much more trenchant lessons of Cohn’s life are not his decades of dark-arts untouchability but his brutal comeuppance. Cohn did not, in the end, elude the consequences of his actions. He could not, it turned out, get away with everything forever. He was a braggart of a tax cheat, and the Internal Revenue Service closed in; he was an incorrigibly unethical attorney, and he finally was disbarred; and only six weeks after that professional disgrace, six months shy of 60 years old, Cohn was dead of AIDS.

Now, less than 14 months out from next year’s election, with Trump facing historic legal and political peril, it’s getting harder and harder not to wonder what he might or might not have gleaned from watching Cohn’s wretched unraveling.

The very dark truth about Donald Trump revealed in his Cokie Roberts comments.

Asked about the passing of legendary journalist Cokie Roberts on Tuesday, here's what Trump said (in part):

"I never met her. She never treated me nicely."

The first words out of his mouth when asked about someone's death was a) never met her and b) "she never treated me nicely." Me, Me, Me, Me, Me, Me.

That Trump's first instinct would be to make it about himself and then use it as a piece of ammo in his long-running fight with the news media is, even for this president, a remarkable thing. That rejection of moral leadership -- of taking the high road, of understanding that you don't need to say everything you think -- is what makes Trump truly radical vis a vis the other men who have held the office of president.

Someone who is incapable of expressing empathy -- or even of not saying something bad! -- about a dead person is someone who is so self-focused as to be largely (if not totally) blind to the world around him. That's a problem for any person.

Whether Trump wins or loses next November, his lack of empathy and presidency devoid of moral leadership will have fundamentally altered the way in which the presidency is conceived in at least some circles in the country. And not in a good way.

Not funny as in "Ha! Ha!" but the other funny as in the sense of "This smells funny" when food goes bad. I think Trump is spoiled and has gone rotten -- he is stinking up the White House.

I would not be surprised if Trump had HIV, same as Roy Cohn. Modern medicine could be keeping Trump from going all the way to AIDS and early death like Cohn, but Trump sure had extensive experience with prostitutes. The way Trump acts, syphilis might have been chewing on his brain. I asked google: "What do you know about Trump's sex life?" Whatever perversions exist, Trump has been there and done that, then bragged on Howard Stern's radio show. Maybe he has the STDs to prove it is not just bragging?

Trump has been bragging about his sex life for decades. If he caught HIV, the antiretroviral therapy will keep him alive. But the side effects can make him emotionally unbalanced. Does he seem steady to you? He seems unhinged in my opinion, like he doesn't give a damn about doing his job. Every single day has to be a party for Trump because tomorrow he may die and he certainly never believed he will be judged by God in an Afterlife he does not believe in. Trump's record on the environment ... I'd say bad, but provisionally call it inconsequential for now.

I believe, but would have to confirm, that most of his actions were / are done by executive order, and by re-writing regulations. Executive orders and regulations, as we've seen, are easily reversed by the next president.

To be durable, any domestic presidential action must be passed by Congress into law. That hasn't happened.

What democrats, who want better environmental policies, need to do is get an appropriate president elected, WHO WILL USE THE POWER OF THE BULLY PULPIT TO CHANGE THE DYNAMIC. Unlike, say Obama, who quietly signed the Paris Accord but didn't stump to get it passed in Congress. That's why Obama's actions had no durability, which makes them also inconsequential.

And if democrats don't do anything different, how are they any better?

My real drift is that Trump's tax returns and his blood test results and his sexual escapades and his business "ethics" and anything else are all top secret. He will take everything to Court, denying everything. He is no more open and truthful than his good and dead buddy, Roy Cohn, the infamous lawyer whose reputation went as low as one can go, but only after he was dead and could not sue from hell.

The only power that exists is 40 or fewer GOP Senators. With 41 Senators, the GOP can stop anything.

Personally, I will never forget that in 2009, when America was careening towards another Great Depression — losing about 800,000 jobs per month — it was Mitch McConnell and his Republican colleagues who launched their strategy of total obstruction, rallying their troops to oppose anything Democrats attempted to do to address the situation. At the point that Americans needed them the most, they were more interested in making Obama a one-term president than doing their job. That’s why it doesn’t surprise me to see the same party put political power over country in their defense of Donald Trump.

Why is some random anon dude throwing out allegations being called a "whistleblower" while Julian Assange has had decades of releasing bad shit that both parties have done that is demonstrably true but he gets called a Russian and a hacker.

And HOW does one get from the 47 GOP senators there are now, to 40 or fewer?

NOT BY DOING MORE OF THE SAME, SLOPPY. Not by whining about Trump. Not by trying to impeach him. Not by being quiet and hiding (like the senate democrats). Not by playing political back-room games (like the house democrats).

You do it by showing the people what's important, why it's important, and what can be done about it. You bring people on board.

And people will bring the senate on board.

It's about changing the dynamic.

The Democrats can't fix what is wrong inside the heads of millions of Trump voters, no more than, say, Abolitionists could talk millions of Southern voters out of keeping slaves. Billions of words were spoken by Abolitionists and entire states were run without slaves, but the Confederates could not see that they needed to change how they lived and voted. The Confederates kept sending pro-slavery Senators to DC. The Confederates did not voluntarily get on board with progress. Republicans won't, either, especially those who are Trump-lovers.

Nice long article detailing how grossly incompetent and erratic Trump is:
"An Abrupt Move That Stunned Aides: Inside Trump’s Aborted Attack on Iran"
www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/an-abrupt-move-that-stunned-aides-inside-
trumps-aborted-attack-on-iran/ar-AAHDJQm

No words will change Trump-lovers' opinion of their Trump, but he is in a box of his own making. He has put in place policies — ‘maximum pressure’ on Iran — guaranteed to provoke an aggressive Iranian response, but he’s not prepared to respond aggressively in turn, and the Iranians know it. So now he has to either back down or go down that slippery military slope, a terrible dilemma he should have considered before he went down this road in the first place.

"It’s time the world ghosts Trump and gets down to real work"

An article out of India about how Trump's mouth has made the World less safe.

https://qz.com/1712963/

Why is the world economic system so reliant on one person, who effectively drowns out the voices of other presidents, prime ministers, and policy leaders?

By extension, why is the world so reliant on one country as an example of a rational, just, and economically-sound voice?

As outrageous as Trump’s rants and tantrums are, he merely reflects a mindset of American exceptionalism that has plagued the world for years and years.

There are examples in the article of Trump saying the most unwise things. The World knows what a nut Trump is, even if Republican voters aren't capable.
