Joe Biden's tax return reveals the Vice President gave just 1.5% of his $380,000 income to charity.

Quote:

Joe Biden has increased his giving to worthy causes more than fivefold since he became vice-president but he still donated a paltry 1.5 per cent of his income, well under half the national average.

Yes, read that again, and let it sink in. After increasing his giving 5x's, it's STILL only 1.5 % of his income.

Quote:

In tax returns released by the White House, it was revealed that Biden and his wife Jill earned $379,035 in 2011 and paid $105,362 in taxes. They gave $5,540 to charity.

The tax returns were made public in part to put pressure on Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican nominee, to release tax returns going back further than 2010. The Obama campaign hopes to use Romney’s relatively low effective tax rate as a weapon against him in the election.

In January, it was revealed that Romney’s tax rate was 14 per cent, because most of his income was derived from investments and dividends.

JONGSSTRAW

Oh have a heart. Those botox injections into his forehead ain't exactly cheap ya know. Plus all those years he spent as a poor Senator riding the Amtrak commuter train between D.C. and Delaware, paying for his own beer nuts and nachos in the club car. And babysitters when the kids were little, etc. etc. There's little left in the bank for any charity.

Wellll, in the interest of fairness:
Quote:

the Obamas contributed around 25% of their income to charities, which is a considerably higher rate than most Americans, including most wealthy Americans:
Quote:

According to the Chronicle of Philanthropy, which tracks the non-profit world, Americans on average give about 4.7 percent of their income to charity. Those who make more than $200,000 annually give about 4.2 percent of their income away.

What is also notable is that President Obama made the decision earlier this month, along with Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, to take a voluntary 5% pay cut in solidarity with those getting hit by unpaid furloughs due to the sequester. In both cases, a class act.

Another interesting point in this discussion of income and taxes, is the fact that the President’s own proposed tax code reform would require him to pay more in taxes, something he’s stated he believes all wealthier people should be willing to do. From the White House:
Quote:

“The President believes we must reform our tax system which is why he has proposed policies like the Buffett Rule that would ask the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share while protecting families making under $250,000 from seeing their taxes go up. Under the President’s own tax proposals, including limitations on the value of tax preferences for high-income households, he would pay more in taxes while ensuring we cut taxes for the middle class and those trying to get in it.”

The President’s effective rate in 2011 was 20.5 percent (as a point of comparison, Romney’s effective tax rate was 14.1 percent in 2011). The President currently pays an 18.4 percent effective federal income tax rate. We won’t be getting any word on the Romneys this year! http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/04/13/obamas-tax-returns-higher-char
itable-giving-higher-tax-rate-than-other-wealthier-americans/

So he paid a higher tax rate...quite a bit higher before...paid a higher percentage in charitable deductions AND took a voluntary pay cut...

Oh, and how about Romney's choice for VP? Let's compare:
Quote:

Some Republicans have criticized Vice President Joseph Biden for giving a small portion of his income to charity—about 1.5 percent last year and 1.4 percent in 2010.

In the latest jab, the GOP strategist Karl Rove told Politico this week that he makes “more charitable contributions as a percentage of my income than either [President Obama] or the vice president.”

“Of course, that’s not hard when it’s compared with Vice President Biden,” Mr. Rove said.

But will the critics back off now that the Republican vice presidential nominee, Rep. Paul Ryan, has released his tax returns? The Wisconsin congressman and his wife, Janna, actually gave less of their income to charity in 2010 than Mr. Biden and his wife, Jill, did —- $2,600, or about 1.2 percent.

Of course, that percentage rose to 4 percent, with $12,991 in donations, in 2011, when he started getting into the spotlight...

And we all know how Romney tried to game the Contributions Game before the election, and even THEN ended up with only 19%.

You sure you guys want to keep going with this? It's pretty silly anyway; I passed it by the first time because of that, but since you want to double down on your mouthiness...

So, while Biden is all giddy for taking more of OUR money, he only spends 1.5% of his own for charity, while at the very same time, making it tougher for those who WANT to be charitable to do so.

Classic Left wing response by Niki. Not to admonish Biden, but to even TRY to compare what Ryan has contributed, which is still several times more than what Biden gave. The 'yeah, but they do it too! ' reaction came off like clock work Niki.

Bravo.

Oh, and it isn't " silly ", Niki. Obama loves to speechify about being 'our brothers keeper', but what of his own half brother, living in Africa ? How much has Barry helped HIM out, hmmm?

( And as for Barry's 'pay cut', that's beyond laughable. In times of hardship like we have, this President continues to fly around on AF-1 to exotic vacation destinations, throw lavish parties, concerts, dinners. Dude is livin' it up like there's no tomorrow. So spare us the 'pay cut' drama. )

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

So the FACTS that Obama pays more in tax and donates more to charity as a percentage of his income than Romney, and that Biden donated the same as a percentage of his income over time as compared to Ryan mean nothing to you. You'll still keep claiming the opposite.

I think I'll just keep repeating this till you post something sane.

So how does Biden's (or Obama's) charitable giving compare to Mitt Romney's?

The world may never know...
