I'm ready to take my medicine and give our less civilized members the opportunity to wail on me and have a ball. I'm staying.

What changed my mind? First hearing from all those good voices, some of them out of the blue privately, some of them I didn't think would give a flying shit whether I was ever here again or not. And you can blame Riona and KPO for the final straw if you want to; whatever their reasons, to have both of them say they might leave, whether KPO is serious or not, has been the final push to get me to stay. What I've learned is that the good voices I'd thought we'd lost are OUT THERE, they're not all gone, and there are too many of them and they're too good to let a few assinine bullies kill this place.

For whatever little it's worth, I'm going back to looking for interesting issues to put up to counter the flood of PN "expletive deleteds" and the nastines that pervades this place. Maybe it will help, maybe it won't, and I'm going to try like hell not to spend as MUCH time doing it as I have in the past. But the OB died; a large part of why it died was that the bullies DID take over, over run the place and drive the good voices off. Maybe it will happen here, but I'm not willing to let RWED go down without a fight. It's part of what keeps this place alive, and it's valuable.

So let the poor slobs who have nothing better to do with their life than come and harrangue people anonymously do their thing, I've learned two lessons. One is that I need to try LESS to sort things out with people I thought were my friends--not a new lesson, but one I obviously need reminding about. The other is that there are far more good people here, and lurking, which means they might return, and they're WORTH IT! I've been enormously touched by things people have said and realize I had friends here I didn't know WERE friends--as much as friendship is possible on an anonymous forum.

So take your best shot, assholes. You could never hurt me before, you can't now; the difference is that I'll guard myself better around those I might have thought were friends, that's all. It's a small lesson, and those of you I respect and admire are WAY worth it.

That includes you, Riona; your voice has always, consciously at least, tried to be a gentle one--whatever your motives might be for publicly saying you're going, I don't care and I'm not about to judge you. You're more valuable here than a dozen of some others; we're all human and screwed up in our own wonderful ways, and the devil take the hindmost!

Hey NewOld, yup, you didn't miss anything; Riona asked where Anthony and I were, I responded, the usual suspects came out of the woodwork to be assholes, I got a lot of PMs, e-mails and posts from people saying they were sick of how RWED had gotten too and that's why they hadn't been posting, hearing from all of them made me miss them all the more, I went to Talk Story and posted there, intending to stay there, Riona posted she's leaving, KPO remarked in her thread that HE might leave, all of that combined to make me decide to try staying.

That's it in a nutshell, you didn't miss anything. ;o) I have to add, however, yours is yet ANOTHER of the voices I have prized and missed, thereby giving even more impetus to the above. Thank you for being you. That's probably the biggest thing for me; I came to realize just how many great voices there are, and how few assholes--it's just that the assholes make the most noise and we let them take over. Bah.

Mostly just thank ALL you intelligent, civil, wonderful people for being who you are.

No, I was only kidding when I talked about leaving - but I'm glad if it helped convince you to stay! No, this site's like my original internet home. I've been quite busy of late, and went away on holiday for a few weeks (so I missed what happened between you and Frem) but I've never seriously thought of leaving. No I'd rather stay and do my bit to try and keep RWED alive, contribute to discussions, post the odd thread... I figure if enough of us do that PirateNews' voice will be drowned out into insignificance (that it deserves).

Good to have you back Niki, the board already looks a brighter place

(Also I'm sure you'll patch things up with Frem over time)

Thanx KPO, it's excellent news you were kidding, I'm glad to hear it. It's been my "home" too for a long time; now at least it's my "second" home 'cuz I'm involved in the urban mushing groups, but those are on Facebook and only about mushing, so they still don't fill the empty hole RWED left. I reeely appreciate you and others putting stuff up, I find it interesting and, well, "what you said". ;o)

No, Rap, you understood the sentence, and you know it's true. I suppose I wasn't clear enough that the first RESPONSE being from you was what made it seem like "old home week", not that I took your response as a snark, that's all.

Mal4, that is my intent. We'll see how well my willpower holds up. That logging-off thing would drive me nuts; I wonder why it happens to you? Never happens to me unless I go to FFF on my cell--then it insists I re-log in, and when I go back to the computer, does it again. One reason I no longer check in anywhere but on my one computer! It drove me nuts the few times it happened to me!

I edited this to remove my response to Frem; this doesn't need to be dredged up in public. I will reply privately.
