Senator Menendez Illegal Alien Sex Offender Scandal Damages Amnesty Push

For Immediate National Release

The breaking scandal that Obama's White House leaders ordered Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents not to arrest US Senator Robert Menendez's (R-NJ) registered sex offender illegal alien intern until after the elections will deal a heavy blow to efforts to pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform Amnesty in 2013.

A US official leaking this story anonymously through the Associated Press is reporting that Luis Abrahan Sanchez Zavaleta, an 18-year-old illegal immigrant and registered sex offender from Peru, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in front of his home in New Jersey on Dec. 6. "Authorities in Hudson County notified ICE agents in early October that they suspected Sanchez was an illegal immigrant who was a registered sex offender and who may be eligible to be deported. ICE agents in New Jersey notified superiors at the Homeland Security Department because they considered it a potentially high profile arrest, and DHS instructed them not to arrest Sanchez until after the November election... ICE officials complained that the delay was inappropriate, but DHS directed them several times not to act, the official said."

Senator Robert Menendez has recently been announced as part of the "gang of eight" US Senators working behind closed doors together to pass Comprehensive Amnesty for illegal immigrants in early 2013.

The Menendez scandal will splash mud on his fellow amnesty team leaders which include US Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC), John McCain (R-AZ), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Mike Lee (R-UT), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), and Marco Rubio (R-FL).

"If Senator Menendez and his fellow illegal immigrant amnesty supporters succeed in passing Amnesty in 2013, we will all have illegal alien sex offenders for coworkers and neighbors or as replacements in our jobs and homes soon," said William Gheen, President of ALIPAC. "Senator Menendez should resign immediately as should Janet Napolitano. Menendez's new term in the US Senate is illegitimate now that we know he would have likely lost his reelection bid if the White House had not protected the illegal alien sex offender intern from arrest before Election Day."

The contentious 2012 election cycle saw major media headlines and public debate about comments made by Republican US Senate candidates Richard Mourdock and Todd Akin regarding rape. Both candidates opposed amnesty for illegal immigrants. The scandals involving comments they made about rape crushed their campaigns. Democratic candidate and pro amnesty advocate Robert Menendez employed an illegal alien that has actually been convicted of sex crimes and his campaign was protected and unscathed by such actions.

"How could anyone have any confidence in immigration legislation and promises coming from a man who has made it clear he will hire illegal aliens with serious criminal offenses?" asked William Gheen. "The Menendez illegal immigrant sex offender scandal goes to the heart of why American citizens do not trust these traitors in the Senate to deliver justice, honesty, or protection for American citizens from the deadly and costly impact of illegal immigration."

ALIPAC has played a key role in defeating Dream and Comprehensive Amnesty for illegals 6 times in recent years and is asking American citizens who oppose the Mendendez McCain Rubio Amnesty plans to join the national group's e-mail alerts at www.alipac.us to stop the new Amnesty legislation coming in 2013.

An unpaid intern to Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., was a registered sex offender and undocumented immigrant and is now facing deportation, a DHS official confirmed Wednesday to ABC News.

The intern, 18 year-old Luis Abrahan Sanchez Zavaleta from Peru, who worked in a New Jersey office for Menendez, was arrested on December 6th. News of the arrest was first reported by the Associated Press.

The senator’s office was informed Monday of the arrest and the senator was informed today, Menendez said. The Senator defended his office’s action today, emphasizing that the intern applied, was recommended and vetted by his school for the internship, not the Senators office.

“We asked status of all of those college interns, nothing didn’t indicate anything about his status and we certainly wouldn’t have known through any background checks since he is a minor about any sex offender status,” Menendez said on MSNBC this afternoon.

Once Menendez’s office was informed of the arrest, the Senator’s New Jersey staff director let the intern go from the program.

“He’s an unpaid college intern so it’s not like he’s a staff paid person,” Menendez said, “There is no way we could know about his status. We ask about status…there is no way we could know about any allegation as a juvenile about what his background would be in terms of any criminality.”

Menendez is a advocate for immigration reform and noted today that this does underscore the urgency of such reform.

“I can’t know who is here to pursue the America dream versus who is here to do it damage if I can’t get people to come forth out of the shadows, go through a criminal background check and determine who is here to pursue the dream and make sure those who are here and who have criminal backgrounds ultimately get deported,” he told MSNBC today.
