You know, about that whole ' war on women ' thing ? Yeah, not so much, after all.

Utah’s Love looking to be first black Republican woman in House

Mia Love won the GOP nomination for the 4th Congressional District race Saturday at the Utah Republican Convention, scoring a major upset after wowing the crowd with a roof-raising speech at the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy.

The daughter of Haitian immigrants, Mrs. Love took 70.4 percent of the delegate vote, well in excess of the 60 percent required to avoid a primary runoff under Utah’s unique rules. She defeated former state legislator Carl Wimmer, who had been viewed as the heavy favorite. He mustered only 29.6 percent of the vote.

If Mrs. Love, 37, defeats her Democratic opponent, Rep. Jim Matheson, she will become the first black Republican woman to serve in the House.

“Today we have an opportunity to do something very special. Today we can start breaking a pattern,” Mrs. Love told the delegates before the vote over the weekend. “Today we can start bringing Jim Matheson home. Elect one nominee today, so we can take this fight to Jim Matheson tomorrow.”

A woman Republican proves there's no war on women?

Huh. I guess there was never any war on terror, either, since there's still terrorists.

Does Christmas still exist? Does religion?

Guess FauxNews missed those memos...

Carl Wimmer is terrible, and so is Jim Matheson (he's a blue dog), but I'm not holding out much hope for Ms. Love. Our state politics is kind of corrupt, and if she's even in the running, well, you can guess the rest.

Just one ?

( laugh )

From Governors Nikki Haley, Mary Fallin, Jan Brewer and Susana Martinez, to a long list of Representatives, as well as former cabinet members in the White House... yeah, the whole 'war on women' nonsense has easily been debunked.

FREMDFIRMA

What rooks me about this is how anyone could be so STUPID, so bloody GULLIBLE, as to work for a party that absolutely, beyond any doubt whatever, means to strip them of their rights and personhood - cause y'all know damn well if they succeed in reducing women to second class citizens, that minorities would be next.

The proper term for those people, mind you, is Quisling.

Yeah. Strip them of their rights & personhood so much, the people keep voting for them.

Demagogue fail. ( again )

PHOENIXSHIP

Mr. Rappy, I'm afraid you're on the wrong side of history with this one... there's a definite trend in the Republican party to hearken back to the imagined "good old days" to comfort the aging, conservative base. A big part of that comfort is returning people and groups to "traditional" roles - roles they may or may not have wanted to begin with.

It's also about appealing to fear and legitimizing irrational anxiety about many things. For example, Planned Parenthood, which (and let's not bicker about these facts) does WAY more health care than abortions, and spends 0 federal dollars on abortion. Yet, this legal (and yes, regrettable) and preventable procedure is CONSTANTLY on the GOP's menu. Sadly, birth control, which would prevent lots of abortions, is also not allowed in the conservative world.

Gays are another favorite target. There have always been gays, and there always will be, yet Repubs seem to want to wish and regulate them into non-existence. Gays can't do this job or that job, they can't be around kids, etc. Funny how my gay friends have NEVER even once tried to recruit my kids, but the religious folks have been after their souls several times.

So, to sum up: I'm sorry, but a single, misguided black woman in Utah does not legitimize the twisted hulk that is today's Republican party.

No signature for me today... thanks.
