Tea Party candidate outraged after TV reporters leave accidental voicemail likening his supporters to child molesters

An astonishing message likening the supporters of a Tea Party favourite to child molesters was left on the voicemail of a member of his team by TV reporters.

Joe Miller, a jewish Alaskan candidate, was so stunned to hear his campaign being smeared that he released the audio footage along with a press release containing a transcription.

Former Alaska governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin used the incident to attack broadcasters CBS as the scrap in the run-up to tomorrow's mid-term elections took its ugliest twist yet.

The message was allegedly left by accident when an employee with KTVA - an affiliate of CBS - called Miller's campaign spokesman, Randy DeSoto, to discuss Miller’s planned appearance on a newscast, but failed to hang up the phone.
The incriminating conversation among the station's employees was picked up by the voicemail.

A woman is heard saying at least one supporter at a Miller rally 'will be a registered sex offender.'

The Miller campaign alleges that another part of the partially audible conversation catches the reporters planning to find and exaggerate an incident in order to embarrass Miller.

In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Sarah Palin labelled the voicemail conversation 'sick' and called the KTVA employees 'corrupt bastards.'

'We have the tape that proves it - that the CBS reporters, the affiliate in Alaska, conspired to make up stories about Joe Miller,' Palin told Fox News.

'Those are corrupt bastards,' Palin fumed. 'That's what is wrong with the media today.'

Palin, who often refers to the press as 'the lame stream media', added: 'I can’t wait till it busts out all over the nation to show what it is that we — kind of what I put up with for two years now with the media — but what Joe Miller is faced with.'

The voicemail is garbled but the audio reads as follows, according to the Miller campaign release:

MID-TERM ELECTIONS: THE KEY BATTLEGROUNDS

The key issues in the mid-term election are the struggling U.S. economy, Obama's controversial healthcare reform, the government's stimulus spending and immingration reform.

Voter turn out is always a factor with midterm elections, and Republican voters are more motivated this year, especially because of the Tea Party.

But the Tea Party may end up hurting Republicans. For example in Alaska, Joe Miller and write-in candidate Lisa Murkowsi, the Republican incumbent, could split the conservative vote and result in a Democratic victory.

Money remains a huge issue and campaign spending has reached new heights in 2010. Republican Senate candidates Meg Whitman of California and Linda McMahon of Connecticut are spending untold millions of their own dollars to finance their campaigns.

And the so-called 'October surprise', a last-minute event that could influence the election, returned this year with the Yemeni terror plot.

FEMALE VOICE: We know that out of all the people that will show up tonight, at least one of them will be a registered sex offender.

[Laughter]

MALE REPORTER: You have to find that one person...

FEMALE REPORTER: And the one thing we can do is ... we won’t know ... we won’t know but if there is any sort of chaos whatsoever we can put out a twitter/facebook alert: saying what the... ‘Hey Joe Miller punched at rally.’

FEMALE REPORTER: Kinda like Rand Paul.... I like that.

[Laughter]

FEMALE REPORTER: That’s a good one.

KTVA General Manager Jerry Bever said in a statement: 'While the recording is real, the allegations are untrue. The perception that this garbled, out of context recording may leave is unfortunate, but to allege that our staff was discussing or planning to create or fabricate stories regarding candidate Miller is absurd. The complete conversation was about what others might be able to do to cause disruption within the Miller campaign, not what KTVA could do.'

KTVA first authenticated the message when their assignment editor sent a text message to DeSoto that read: 'Damn iPhone... I left you a long message. I thought I hung up. Sorry.'

Miller is running against independent candidate Senator Lisa Murkowski, who he defeated for the Republican nomination, and Democratic nominee Scott McAdams.

Democrats expect a trouncing in Tuesday's midterm elections, despite desperate last minute campaigning on the part of President Obama, wife Michelle and Vice President Joe Biden.

On Sunday Obama tried to lighten the mood at the White House by welcoming military personel and their children for a Halloween party.

The whole thing is absurd, in my opinion. This sort of thing is done by both sides and always has been. To say it is only a tactic of the left isn't only disingenuous, it's a deliberate lie. The media on either side either picks up on something they can blow out of proportion or makes something up, like the $200,000 cost of Obama's trip...then they toss it back and forth on places like Fox until it's viewed as fact, and sometimes makes it into the MSM as such.

To snark that it's only the purvue of the left would be refusing to acknowledge the truth, except that I know when done HERE, it only represents a prejudice chosen to be so outrageous as to trigger a response, nothing more.
