Too bad they don't live in America, where we're allowed to protestL

An anti-American demonstration in the Afghan capital turned violent Wednesday as five Afghan police officers were injured and two demonstrators were shot by police, officials said.

Mohammad Khalil Dastyar, deputy police chief of Kabul, told CNN about 1,200 demonstrators gathered to denounce the United States. He said they chanted "death to America" and condemned the Rev. Terry Jones, the leader of a tiny Florida-based church who ignited an international firestorm when he threatened to set fire to Qurans on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.

Dastyar said five Afghan police officers were wounded when demonstrators began shooting and throwing stones at security forces.

Meanwhile, a top hospital official said two protesters were shot in the chest by police. Dr. Kabir Amiri, director of Kabul's network of hospitals, said the demonstrators were being treated for their injuries.

Oops, I guess "our guys" don't allow protest over there either:

An international forces service member shot a protester at a NATO military base in southern Afghanistan, military officials said Thursday.

The man was pulled away by fellow demonstrators before members of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) were able to determine his condition.
The protest of about 100 Afghans at Forward Operating Base Mirwais was reported to have been held in response to an alleged Quran burning inside the base Wednesday. But ISAF said the suspected burning was a routine burn-pit session in which military documents are destroyed.

The protest turned violent when the Afghans began throwing rocks at the base guards.

As I understand it, we kill protestors from time to time, too. Protesters are teases, like dudes in tight jeans...or chicks in short skirts, I mean. They wanna throw rocks and shout and be all violent and stuff, but when the authorities match their violence with more violent violence, they protest even more.

Anyway, "our guys" are preferable to crazed jihadis, but only from a foreign policy standpoint. For the average Afghani on the ground, in the countryside, life continues to stink.

Yup. I agree. (again, it's "Afghan"--"Afghani" is the currency, also called the "Af". I just keep reminding people...education never hurts.)

Actually, I'm kind of surprised they can recruit Afghan police--if unemployment weren't so bad, I can't imagine ANYONE wanting to be one, especially at this time!

Rug? You mean blanket. Sad that Afghanistan is such a war-torn area, especially since the afghan is the most peaceful of all blankets.

The hound is also not an Afghani, just an Afghan.

I suppose if you had enough Afghan hounds to keep you warm, you wouldn't need the blanket.

Yanno, a little cultural knowledge goes a long damn way - our trick with the cookies in Kosovo worked wonders, and mighta worked well here, especially if those were Pashtun protestors.

I would have brought out plates of cookies and snacks, and then yelled "JIRGA" - and had a sitdown with em, which is a truce thing where you get to TALKIN instead of throwin rocks, but our guys can't see past the hateful military CULT-ure, where kill-crush-destroy is the order of the day.

Sad damn thing too, cause it's missin opportunities like that which is why we're gonna lose.
