Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Carly Fiorina has the gaul to come to Marin tomorrow. I just got an e-mail warning me, and telling me where we're going to meet to protest. Goodie! That (excuse me) bitch is so full of shit, and Barbara Boxer, much as I know some of you hate her, has always done right by us.

She stands up for what she believes in. One of the few who had the guts to vote against the joint resolution passed by the U.S. Congress to authorize the use of military force by the Bush Administration against Iraq, in 2006 she said:

I agree with the report that the Iraqi people must take control of their own country, that there should not be a large influx of U.S. troops into Iraq, and that there should be no open ended commitment to keep large numbers of U.S. troops in Iraq. I am also pleased that the Iraq Study Group believes that most U.S. combat troops could be out of Iraq by early 2008.

Above all, I hope that this report will remind the President that the American people are demanding change in our policy in Iraq.

Yes, Mike, that's her--also the maker of that insane "sheep" commercial during the primaries...sigh.

We just have to outvote the Southern Richies to keep Barbara Boxer--may not be too difficult, we always have before, but in this climate...

I'm surprised she dared show up in Marin, actually. All three of Marin's Republicans may show up, if they aren't too ashamed, and we'll no doubt outnumber them mightily. She's as crazy to show up here as she is to do all the other things she's doing.

Well, had fun here, but I'm off to do my duty as an American... Luckily it's right across from the dog park, so I'm taking my motorcycle and Jim will join me when it's over to take the huskies there. By then the tide will be up so they won't get all muddy.

Not sure which will be more fun...

Oooo, my aching back. Oooo, my aching foot. Ooo, it was HOT out there! Demonstrating standing in one place for two hours is much tougher than marching!

Was worth it tho'. I think the demonstraters outnumbered the people who came to HEAR Fiorino. It was, not surprisingly, an invitation-only, no-press event...so the press had nothing to do except talk to US!

And it was interesting to see people walk by going in, every SINGLE one of them dressed to the Nines. Rich Marinites; didn't surprise me in the least.

What did surprise me (but shouldn't have) was that there were four or five pro-Fiorino picketers, and they were terribly obnoxious. They tried to engage in heated discussions with an old man and his wife, one guy bullying them something fierce (glad to say, the old guy held his ground GREAT!); they sneered at us; they said vile things to each other loudly enough that we could hear them...I was proud that only a few of our people shouted back, and laughed when I encouraged them not to, saying "I know, let THEM make the asses of themselves, but it's so HARD!"

So again I got to see the aggressiveness of the RWA followers. Of those going in, several made nasty comments too, but our entire group stayed calm and didn't take the bait except a couple of people once or twice.

What they tossed at us was amusing, too: "Do your homework" (I have, believe me!); and every single right-wing talking point from every single pundit, Fox News, and talk-show host on the right. No reasonable arguments, no valid points, just same old, same old.

I only made it an hour and a half before my back made me sit down. Joined a bunch at the curb and sat on the curb when it got hotter and hotter. Lots and lots of honks and thumbs up from passing cars. I found just the sign I wanted: "Carly, why did HP fire you?"--and of course two Fiorinoites came out with the rejoinder "Her contract was up, you know, she wasn't fired". Uh, huh, yeah, right.

Would have taken the time to make my own, except I went on the motorcycle so I could meet Jim at the dog park once the tide was in (it's right down the street). Mine would have been "Carly wants to do to California what she did to HP", but this was close enough.

I didn't make it past 1:15, but by then it was pretty much over anyway. A bunch of nurses had joined us to protest her too, so they made up about half of the group...and we have an iniative on the ballot regarding Big Oil, so there were a lot of signs for that too.

Just interesting. I got to the dog park and lay down in the shade on the grass and "licked my wounds"...had enough time before Jim got there with the huskies to do all my back and leg exercises, so the back felt better and the timing was about perfect. But I'm still pooped and sore. Dogs jumped in the Bay, played with other dogs and are now (thankfully) crashed. A good day was had by all.

I would follow Boxer to the ends of the earth. She's been great for us ever since she was State Rep, then Congresswoman and now Senator. I've always admired her for standing up against the Iraq War and voting against it, and she's been good for this county and this state, and always voted her conscience. Damned if I want to let some fucking CEO, who wasn't even a good CEO (!), ride the tide of ultra-right-wing sentiment and make us lose her!
