Of course you do, because standing on your own is too frightening to comprehend.

You're sheeple, and hate the thought of anyone thinking outside of your comfort zone.

No, I just hate the thought of anyone thinking. This is why I like you, and want to hug you.

The sooner you let go of your childish illusions of individuality, the sooner you can adjust to your role in the hive mind. I'm trying to help, because we are one in the same.

Magon,

The little known reality is that the bill of rights, which passed in the empire in 1689, was inherited by all colonies, and that our constitution was not the creator of said bill, but was in fact created in 1789 by the federalists to replace the articles of confederation of 1781 for the purpose of extending executive power and specifically to eradicate the bill of rights from US law. The result was the Supreme Court, whose purpose in existence is to supplant the rights of states to implement the bill of rights which the federalists were unsuccessful in striking down in the original deliberation thanks to some stalwart defenders of freedom like George Clinton, and a bunch of people who tend not to end up on currency.

So, unless your constitution says explicitly that you don't have them, you should have them.

Thanks DT for that information.

I guess we are implicitelty rather than explicitly covered by the English Bill of Rights, which means that it does limit and contain like the constitution but can be refered to under law (I think)> There have been various zttempts at time for us to have our own Bill of Rights, and I believe that some states have one, but there is nothing federally. I'm not really that familiar with jursiprudence.

My point was that I don't know your constitution, because we don't learn it and we are not subject to its rights or limits - so referring me to the constitution isn't all that useful. Mincing didn't realise that I wasn't a yank, so that kind of wraps that conversation up really.

This is all kind of off the point, but I don't mind a meander or two in any conversation.

Magon

point taken, otoh, there is also google. Something else you should know about our founding documents is that unlike our modern laws such as the patriot act (new laws can be 6000 pages long) our old ones are amazingly short.

Here's the whole text of the 8th Amendment:
Quote:

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

FYI, stoning is right out - not that they might not still try to apply the death penalty, but sufficient pressure has been applied that the stoning is a dead letter.

Of course, given the pressure already brought to bear and the economy of simply keeping it on, it's likely this can be smoothed over - although while I don't mind individuals and non political orgs laying the pressure, I do have a few ethical concerns over one country telling another what it can and cannot do within it's own borders, leave that shit for Amnesty Int and HRW, neh ?
