Ah, Michigan.

Today, while out and about grocery shopping I come upon some poor fool doing 35mph in a 40mph, and predictably, leastways up here, folks are swerving around him with the occasional shouted curse and waved fist - realizing his mistake, he's now tryin like hell to get over to the right lane but isn't quite aggressive enough to actually do it.

I note he has mississippi plates and take mercy on him, slowing down to open him a hole to bail into - only to realise he's TRYING to get in position to hit I-94 West.
(prolly to get back to the airport and AWAY from us, hehehe)

I pull up beside him at the light cause I didn't wanna be stuck behind his slowpoke ass neither, and mind it's nice out and I got the windows down since my cars AC Blower ain't worked in years now.

He rolls down his window, I look over there.

"What the hell, are ALL you motherfuckers crazy or what ?!!"

I grin savagely.

"WELCOME TO MICHIGAN! - oh, and a little bit of advice for you sonny, since you're in the pipeline for 94 Westbound and all... you come off that exit ramp you better hit the ground runnin, less you wanna be pickin dirt outta your undercarriage for a while!"

He stares, disbelieving.
I catch the light change out of the corner of my eye, and without breaking eye contact or changing expression, punch her into a tire barking takeoff and cut into the pipe ahead of him as I go eyes front and throw him a little shimmy from the back end to wave goodbye as I clobber the gas down the exit ramp (remember this beastie runs 16.8 1/4 miles) and leave him to wonder.

Gawd I love this state!

Retta has a bit to say about it too, from the STR Archives.

It's a lousy state, with many of the worst laws in the nation. I unfortunately work here, but don't have to live here.

Michigan, Indiana, Illinios, Wisconsin....

All the same really.

If the internet has taught me anything it's that people live very different lives in other places than I've lived, and in the small geological radius I've covered in my life. Some got it better, most got it worse...

I'm definitely going South sometime... I just don't know where or when. Things haven't gotten bad enough for me to worry about figuring that out too much... especially since I don't know anybody personally more than 150 miles away from the very spot I'm sitting right now.

Sure... It's bad... but is it so bad where I'm sitting now that I need to rush to get up and out just to go to another place that's slightly-less-as-bad?

Probably not...

Here's to storing those acorns early and finding that place that just keeps getting better and better when everything around it keeps getting worse and worse.

Here's to my Tobacco/Weed/Cattle farm on the dark side of the moon.
