The governor has released this statement:

Quote:

The stories of two very different lives with similar fates crossed through the media's hands yesterday - both equally important but one lacked the proper attention. The death of 67-year old George Tiller was unacceptable, but equally disgusting was another death that police believe was politically and religiously motivated as well.

William Long died yesterday. The 23-year old Army Recruiter was gunned down by a fanatic; another fellow soldier was wounded in the ambush. The soldiers had just completed their basic training and were talking to potential recruits, just as my son, Track, once did.

Whatever titles we give these murderers, both deserve our attention. Violence like that is no way to solve a political dispute nor a religious one. And the fanatics on all sides do great disservice when they confuse dissention with rage and death.

It really is disgusting how the media is in such an uproar over the Tiller incident and comparatively ignoring the murder of Pvt. William Long.

I'm curious as to how the killers of these people are portrayed. I'm sure the black Muslim is bieng portrayed by the right as a terrorist, but in point of fact the killer Dr. Tiller without a doubt IS a terrorist. He's done time in federal prison for bomb-making (he was targeting a health clinic in that instance).

Also, all those who were threatening to go off if any of the terror suspects in Gitmo were ever released into the U.S., where are you? This killer has already been proven to be a terrorist, yet he was released to commit more acts of terror, and now he's murdered a law-abiding American citizen.

Where's your outrage?

I don't think the media should be in so much of an uproar over either one, they're both common criminals, murderers, and should be treated as such.

Sensationalizing it only hands scum like them more power and glory, thus encouraging the mentally unstable to copycat them and giving them the attention they desperately wanted.

All they deserve is a fair trial, followed by, if proven guilty (prettymuch a slam dunk), a short drop and a sudden stop.

As for the idea of someone not all there upstairs perceiving that the US Military was out to destroy their people and culture, thus leading to such an attack, frankly I am surprised it took as long as it did for it to happen, logically that was all but inevitable and something they SHOULD have been prepared for, as a recruiting station is the most likely target - and while it's a tragic loss of life, it *could* have been much worse, if the vector of the attack was explosives rather than bullets.

I might not agree with nor support the US Military currently, for obvious reasons, but this kid who caught one, he was just a recruit, he hadn't done nothin to nobody - his hands were clean, and while not on the battlefield, in my eyes he offered, and he then gave, his very life in the service of his country and as such has my deepest respect and deserves being laid to rest with full military honors.

Imma be rather pissed if he don't get em too, just cause he never fired a shot in anger, never saw the elephant, doesn't make his sacrifice any less valid than those who have.

Good points, Frem. I'd be curious to know how many bodies are on the recruiter, though. Lots of people here and elsewhere are all but celebrating the death of the "abortion doctor" because they feel he's responsible for so many deaths; I wonder if they've consdered how many deaths can be traced back to each military recruiter - deaths on BOTH sides of the battle lines!
