Sort of.

INVESTMENTS

Hoookay... First of all, I'm a macro-economic sort of investor. I try to look at the big pic before I buy because no matter how great of a stock, house, bond, commodity, or currency you pick, if you're facing the Crash of 2006 YOUR investments are going to sink along with everyone else's.

So, first question: did I miss out on any major investment categories?

REAL ESTATE
I wouldn't buy a house right now because prices are coming down. Folks who previously predicted a "soft landing" are now predicting shakeout. Been thru this before... it took ten years for prices to reach their previous highs. Not a favorable outlook. The question that I have is whether the consumer spending that was fueled by home loans will dry up, and if that will have an impact on jobs.

NOTE TO SELF: If banks get hit with foreclosures it will be time to buy their stock.

STOCKS
Stock market's down. The DJ is below 11,000 and my fave potential stock pick (AMD) is off from 42. Time to buy? Or do you think the market's going to drop further? Are there any sectors that look shaky now that will pick up soon?

CURRENCY
USA dollar- has taken a small blip up
based on higher Treasury rates, but overall the amount of USA indebtedness seems to disfavor the dollar.

Euro- has taken a small hit from Treasury rate increases and from the Mideast turmoil. However, they also get oil from Russia and other regions. I'm not sure where their major market is.

Ruble- I sure wish I knew where to invest in the ruble. It just became a fully convertible currency, and their oil and gas fields... and nearby markets of Europe, Japan and China... the future looks bright.

Chinese Yuan- China (unlike most major nations) still buys most of its oil on the spot market, which has just gone thru the roof. And if USA consumer spending folds, there goes China's major customer. I dunno -what do you think?

UNCUT GEMSTONES.

And not by 'points' or 'shares' in a stone that may or may not exist in a vault somewhere.

Buy them outright, start with smaller, more inexpensive stones and work your way up, making sure you have a little diversity there.

Cuts go in and out of style, but the basic value of the stones always go up, and if it comes to it, you can always trade the chips of a larger stone for the cut itself.

They're effective currency anywhere on the planet, portable, and do not attract the attention that precious metals do - just toss em in with a buncha ordinary rocks and a geology hammer & books, and folks won't even look twice.

If you spread your buys well, it doesn't draw attention, and if you're slick enough to buy/sell/trade in more than one currency, you can make a cut on the exchange as well as the sale.

And if society implodes and we're back to rocks and sticks, they're STILL valuable.

It's what I call a win-win investment.
