If charged, would he be considered a flight risk ?

How about a 10 billion bond...

Who would pay it ?

RUE

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

I think it would be funny if various countries let it be known they were considering it. Then watch Bush tiptoe across the gobe like going thru a minefield - no, no, no, YES! I can land here! no, no, no, no ...

There is a jurisdictional issue. Canadian law and the International War Crimes treaties do not have jurisdiction to try President Bush. Why?

The issue comes down to power. The Allies had jurisdiction during Nurenburg because they won the war. Had the Nazis won I'm sure Churchill and Roosevelt would have been on trial. Smaller, less powerful nations like Serbia fall under the court's jurisdiction because they lack to power to oppose jurisdiction.

Lets say Bush landed in Canada and was arrested. The next day US official unlock Bush cell and release Bush and imprison Candian leader for commiting an act of war against the United States and forcing us to liberate Canada and our President. Six months later we hold free election and Canada, Quebecois, and maybe two or three other Canadian countries get their independence back.

A smaller nation can defy international law, but the US can dictate it. Granted we chose not to most of the time, but arresting Bush would be seen as an act of war by the American people and many of our newer allies (like Poland). World opinion would be split and Canada would fall.

Now that would be a crime. And we would have jurisdiction. If you survived your "visit" with me, then you could "visit" our prison where I'm sure I could arrange for many people to "visit" you.

unless, as your theory holds, I win

Then I am golden, and there was no crime

just a bunch of people, cleaning up whatever may be left of yours

True. But in order to "win" in the context of our broader argument, you would have to defeat not just me but the government as well.

I'm confident the local, state, and Federal authorities can protect me from just about anything you could do. For everthing else I rely on Smith and Wesson and my concealed carry permit.

Canada, from what I've read in the history books, has enjoyed a long history of "doing the right thing." Of course we've had our fair share of egg on our face, but I'm talking about the big picture here.

Unfortunatly, this has waned lately. So, I don't see anything like this happening. Maybe a strong objection, but that'd be it.

I think at this point Canada should be strengthening its ties to the EU to eventually petition for membership. Got more in common over there then we do down there... much more.

It'd be nice to have a major trading partner that plays by the rules and has a brain in its head. Quite nice.
