It's good to hear people the right takes at least somewhat seriously talking about this. I did have to smile, however, at

I'll withhold judgment on how much of an environmentalist he might be until I see where he stands on stuff, but someone should tell him a Sequoia can't grow in Kentucky....Sequoias require moist, rich, balanced ph, and well-drained soil. Pretty tricky recipe, but I wish him luck. There IS one in Kentucky, planted a couple of decades ago, so who knows?

Now that's a perfect example of what we've been talking about here in RWED. Did you enjoy writing those nasty comments? My comments weren't in any way a put-down of Mr. Paul or his efforts to grow a Sequoia, I think it's neat--and by the way, there are many of them growing all over the country, planted by people with the same idea as he.

So what inspired your snarking at me about it, a snark having absolutely nothing to do with the topic of the thread, referring to government official forbidding him planting one? Just your dislike of me, or something else?

ETA: I just realized I wrote "can't grow in Kentucky"--I should amend that to "may have difficulty growing in Kentucky".

Actually, a dislike for your political views. Just to be clear.

And yes, " can't grow " has a different twist than " may have difficulty ".

The former has a negative, authoritarian tone to it, while the latter is based more in an informative message.

Why bother with what I said? Because I found his pointing out his intent to grow a Sequoia in Kentucky amusing, AND REMARKED ON IT, nothing more. An expressed opinion, what's wrong with that?

Additionally, neither "can't" nor "may have difficulty" has ANYTHING to do with a government official FORBIDDING him from trying...you went there; pretty clearly that says something. My "political view" in this thread was a POSITIVE statement about Rand Paul, so that's not where it came from.

The prejudice is obvious; if I'd posted an article about Obama and he'd said exactly the same thing, I would have found it equally amusing, and probably have remarked precisely the same way. But, in my opinion, you see it's from me, and despite it being a POSITIVE post about Rand Paul, assumed my remark about the Sequoia was a diss, and snarked back. That's how we get where we are, and until/unless we change it, it will never stop.
