The story contains a high level of fearmongering spin with nothing to back it up. Specifically, they keep bringing up serial killers of women without ever indicating that these are even statistically significant in the data. For all I know that's half a million policemen shoot black people for fun in the inner city. There's a very large number of deaths being covered up for some reason, and I know that serial killers are statistically extremely rare, not just here, worldwide, so it's unlikely that a group of half a million deaths are serial killings, or even 1%.

Another thing that would involve cover up would be deaths ruled homocide that might have been medical malpractice. Both the medical establishment and Law Enforcement are exempt from having to report on homocides they commit. I think that even if police *wanted* to cover up serial killings, generally families of victims and other members of the dept. would not play along.

If cops were doing the killing, they might very well hide the figures. I remember one man's quest to get the casualty figures for police shootouts in LA of people killed by police, and was blocked at every turn. He estimated the total at around 10,000 and some for the decade, from talking to families, but could get nothing from the city. If his estimates were true, it would make police killings of civilians just over half the homocides in the city.

Sure, there's that, but if you really wanna know...

Ask NCMEC, ask the Foster Care System, ask CPS.
Don't expect the "asking" to be any kinda easy, and be aware asking such questions tends to lead to "accidents" or the mysterious suicide of those asking them.

Or perhaps a better idea is to consider the sheer physical volume of so many bodies and wonder where they are, where they went.

Hello,

Every time I watch Dexter, a favorite show of mine*, one repeating critique that surfaces in my head has been "There couldn't possibly be enough serial killers in Miami to support this concept. Dexter would eventually run out of prey."

I wonder if perhaps I underestimated the volume of murderers amongst us.

*The forensics on the show has been steadily decreasing in quality, but the drama and characters remain entertaining. It's becoming the House of crime dramas: Ignore the technical missteps, just enjoy the story.

There was a story recently about a rash of bully-suicides in Mentor, Ohio. I didn't buy it. Too many statistical anomalies: Most suicides are boys, most girls who attempt suicides are not successful, suicide rate tends to run parallel to murder and other crimes for an area. In short, the only thing that makes sense to me in this story is someone is on a Heathers kick and is killing people.
