Thanks for being part of the problem.

Well, if the problem is NOT vanity about his receding hairline (BTW, it was you who alluded to how "ridiculous" a receding hairline is on a big man, not me), then his shaved head is either

1) Protective coloration in a tough job or rough neighborhood, or

2) A big EFFU to TPTB.

Now, I appreciate both of these motivations, but you (or your hubby) MUST appreciate that the nail that sticks out is the nail that gets hammered down. Do you have a plan (aside from carrying a gun, which -if used- can create so many more problems than a speeding ticket, such as a murder charge?) on making "the man" less asshole-ish? For example, does he keep a dashcam running in his car to record events? What do you intend to do other than making individual gestures of defiance, and telling us about it here?

3. He wears a mining helmet, and he says having it shaved it just easier to deal with, and if he grows hair he gets a skin rash where the straps are.

And YES, we were actually planning to put in a dash cam, right up until we totaled a car and I had my med crisis. We were actually in the black for the first time in our marriage (15 years next month) and now we're back in the damn hole again... Happy frickin' anniversary!!!

It, along with the rest of the things I want will just have to wait...again....

I'm just curious -

Some people have 'stick out' hair where even at relatively long length it sticks straight out

Other people have 'lie down' hair where even at relatively short length it lays down flat.

I can see how short 'stick out' hair under a helmet would be really uncomfortable. That helmet would feel like it's riding on stubble all. the. time.

Does your hubby have 'stick out' or 'lie down' hair?

If you are driving around pissed off at the dude you passed five minutes ago, you are just as much distracted. It's up to you to put your big boy pants on and drive on and deal with whatever comes your way or try to control the actions of every bad driver out there.

Personally, if they wanna drive distracted and crash into a tree, it's none of mine. My responsibility is controlling MY car.

You ignore the road and those around you because you're on the phone, you've made it the business of everyone around you.

Nothing is guaranteed, which is all the more reason why you need to hang up and drive. Even in the best of circumstances, driving can be tough.

The arrogance and vanity in your posts, Wish, are truly astounding. I hope they don't reflect how you are in real life.

WISH, you said your hubby wears a mining helmet and his skin gets irritated where "the straps" rub. Do you mean "the webbing" ... the internal straps that hold the helmet off your head? Or some sort of "under the chin" strap? (I used to wear a hardhat.)

Let's see ..... he can't stop shaving his head because of his helmet/hardhat.
So he gets pulled over when other people don't.
Which leads him to carry a gun.
And he speeds because (guess what?) he was "in a hurry" (every time?)
So he keeps getting tickets.

You might want to re-look at that chains of decisions and consequences and see if there aren't other options.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

He's been pulled over at least forty times in the last eight years.
Except this is only the third ticket.

In his lifetime? In the last 8 years?

The reason why I ask is because in my whole lifetime I've gotten one moving violation (rolling stop). In the interest of full disclosure, I did get out of two others, also rolling stops - once because I was going through the university past midnight in summer when it was deserted (except for, apparently, the campus police), and the other because I had a visibly ill small child (pale, sweaty, glassy-eyed, inwardly-focused) in the car, and I was trying to drive her home smoothly so as to avoid having her barf.

In my lifetime I've been in 6 minor fender-benders with other cars. Twice I was in my lane passing a line of cars in their lane and people pulled out and clipped my rear quarter panel (hard to say it was my fault since they got the back half of my car), twice I was rear-ended at a stop sign (minor crunches, not high-speed, both times we got out, looked at the scuff marks, and drove off), and once I was hit in a parking lot by a woman backing out of a parking spot (also my rear quarter panel). The one time that was my fault, I backed into another car in parking lot (I had a severe migraine and could barely see, all I was trying to do was get myself 3 miles to home).

There's the two freeway collisions I had with trash on the road, where traffic was fast and tight I had no opportunity to brake or maneuver.

And there's the 3 high-speed freeway accidents I KNOW I avoided by being concerned over how someone else was driving, and pro-actively getting out of the way - and watching an accident unfold in the spot where I WOULD have been if I hadn't taken action.

There were the two accidents I had while I was bicycling, once I was forced into a curb by a car passing too closely, and once I was T-boned by a driver pulling out of a parking lot. That last one was the only consequential accident I ever had, since I hit the pavement with force and suffered a concussion.

I've had perhaps 4 or 5 fix-it tickets, mostly for running lights, brake lights, and directionals. And of course some parking tickets.

That's my 4 decade+ year record.

Of all the tickets and accidents I've had, when it comes to being at fault, I've had one moving violation (rolling stop), one at-fault minor contact, and 4 or 5 minor mechanical fix-it tickets, in well over 40 years.

Maybe it's unusually clean. Maybe I've been unusually lucky. But I do mind the speed limit, use my directionals, don't tailgate, stop completely behind the limit line then move forward to make a right-hand turn as allowed by California law, and try to watch for other drivers.

So, while the number of stops your husband has had is vastly excessive and indicates profiling, I also find the number of tickets to be somewhat high. While the stops are frustrating, it's the tickets that do economic damage. If he could avoid the tickets, it would be helpful.

I've never had an accident. Had maybe two or three tickets, can't remember. I did back a little too far into a culvert once on a dark night with no moonlight and my friend had to get his tractor to pull me out

Hubby had a teenage girl bump him at a light once, she got out and asked him if "they could settle it with sex"

I also had a drunk driver tap our bumper on my B-day a few years ago. Hubbs got out and asked the guy if he was OK and the guy backed into a row of mailboxes doing about thirty to try to get away. THE COPS got our location confused and missed him.

All of his other crashes were because of deer or snow...

Really??

All I'm doing is suggesting that you re-think your chain of decisions.

Why don't you explain why it is that this has you so angry? Because I don't get it.

---------------

Speaking of accidents ... this has NOT been my month! Four weeks ago, I was driving home in the dark in the right-hand lane, in light freeway traffic, minding my own business, when then next thing I knew....BAM! An 18-wheeler knocks me half out of my lane. It had been coming up behind me from my left, then suddenly for no discernable reason whatsoever the driver decided he just HAD to be in the right-hand lane, and altho there was a crap-ton of space behind AND in front of me, decided to pull right into me. So I drove onto the shoulder and the truck driver just took off. Dented the driver's side drawer and tore the strip off the side.

Last night, I was driving home in stop-and-go traffic. I wasn't even moving! BAM! The guy behind me rear-ended my car! Fortunately, no visible damage.

WTF?? Does my car have a "HIT ME" sign on it???

I'm sorry, the prescribed RWED allowed response here goes something like :

If YOU were watching the road better, more aware of other drivers, didn't have a radio on, had given a BJ to a traffic cop the night before, had committed to driving the long way home even if it means an extra three hours, been using a microscope to make sure you keep five miles UNDER the speed limit like a good little citizen, worn a day glo suit, covered your car in the American flag so that it was more visible, held your tongue just a certain way.................

See whut I mean? SHIT HAPPENS. And it pisses you off.

I'm reminded of a joke.

About a man on his deathbed, who's favorite food is chocolate chip cookies, and he can smell the scent of cookies wafting to his bed and he thinks "Oh, my wife is doing one last thing for me. She's such a good woman" and with the last of his waning strength manages to crawl on his hands and knees out of bed and into the dining room where the cookies are cooling and with his last ounce of strength reaches up to the table and just stretches for a bite of cookie, then...

WHAP!! She smacks his hand and says dryly "Those are for after the funeral, dear..."

I think if I had died last month, they would be the first ones to say something stout to make them look like honorable people, but because I'm a woman and still alive they are disappointed...

"Quit whining, yer still breathing." Unfortunately, so are they.

Sloppy, sloppy thinking and posting. You took the first not really applicable thing that came into what you have for a mind, and decided it fit. And posted it because you couldn't see what might be wrong with it, and besides, you have no shame about being really stupid. If you did you'd be embarrassed about having your idiocies proven to you on so many instances. But nope. Not you.

No wonder you can't think your way out of your delusions, and keep posting them - and getting caught looking stooopid. Again and again.

I'm gonna have to remember that ' All y'all folk look the same to me ' excuse.

That's a good-un.

Actually, I got that from my hubby. He told me to stop backing into other cars.

Quote:

See whut I mean? SHIT HAPPENS. And it pisses you off.
Actually, yes, shit happens. No, it doesn't piss me off ... my 15-year-old car is still driveable altho looking somewhat the worse for wear. It puzzles me.

HOWEVER ....
Quote:

Every time he goes driving at night around here they pull him over. It's that he's 6 foot..... three hundred pound.... shaved big dude. They single him out as a threat EVERY time. This one was for doing ten miles over, like everyone else was doing.
He's been pulled over at least forty times in the last eight years. Gotten so paranoid he has a gun in the car with him at all times.

Getting pulled over that many times is one thing - but how many times has he gotten a ticket? If he's consistently getting tickets, The he's doing something wrong. I've gotten tickets and I've learned not to do the same things again, even tho I thought a few were unfair. So if your hubby is constantly getting ticketed, then he'd better change his driving habits.

But, I'm talking to people here. I know I'm supposed to be a "trooper" and "grin and bear it" so others don't get offended. FUCK THAT. I'm not gonna pretend to be mindlessly happy just cuz some people on the 'net want me to be.

I think people get frustrated because they can't decide if you're a rebel ... in which case you're kind of bringing the consequences down on yourselves ... or if you're victim.

I think you're a victim of biology. But then other stuff happens that maybe you (or your hubby) might be able to avoid.

so tell me, because sometimes I think I miss some of the meanings in the way you guys speak, does not having a vacation mean you haven't had a break from work, or you haven't gone away from your house?

I take it to mean that one hasn't been out of town and away from home / work for more than a long weekend. There are such things as ' stay-cations ', where you go hotel it up for a few days , relatively close to your home, and partake of activities of a touristy nature.

It's actually been several years since I myself has had a proper vacation, but I've just not been drawn to go see any particular place as of late.

Once again, PART OF THE PROBLEM.

Like I said he's only had three tickets the entire time we've been married. He usually drives like an old man. It's that he's a big angry lookin' dude driving country roads at night. I have no problem with patrolling or speed enforcement, but getting pulled over every other time you leave the house IS harassment. And if we said anything about it, it would just make it worse.

I think perhaps in WISH'S case it may mean more than that.

I also have not had a proper vacation in more than 20 years ... that means, taking more than a day off from work and doing something different than the endless grind. In the past three decades, every time I've traveled it's been back east for "family business" ... mainly to help out big sis, who was caring for mom.

But there are various gradations of "endless grind", because some grinds are so much worse than others. There were a couple of years that were absolutely hellacious ... in addition to our daughter's neurological deterioration into seizure-related dementia, hubby was dx with prostate cancer after years-long struggle with intractable Meniere's and prostate problems, and MIL was dying of cancer in our home. Not only was I incredibly short of sleep all the time from working a full-time job, taking the "early morning" shift with MIL, and preparing the specialized food our daughter required for the ketogenic diet (which one a desperate shot at reducing her seizures), I was emotionally wrung out from being unable to help those I love in any effective manner. If I were to add unrelenting pain on top of that, I don't know what I would have done.

Like I said, some grinds are worse than others.

I wonder if you're angry because you're in pain and nobody is giving you or your family any breaks; and what you're really looking for might not so much be "Leave me the fuck alone" as "Please give me some relief".

A brief history on the matter...

Quote:

The first offender profile was assembled by detectives of the Metropolitan Police on the personality of Jack the Ripper, a serial killer who had murdered a series of prostitutes in the 1880s. Police surgeon Thomas Bond was asked to give his opinion on the extent of the murderer's surgical skill and knowledge.[11] Bond's assessment was based on his own examination of the most extensively mutilated victim and the post mortem notes from the four previous canonical murders.[12]

In his notes, dated November 10, 1888, he mentioned the sexual nature of the murders coupled with elements of apparent misogyny and rage. Dr. Bond also tried to reconstruct the murder and interpret the behavior pattern of the offender: soon he came up with a profile or signature personality traits of the offender to assist police investigation.

The profile said that five murders of seven in the area at the time the report was written had been committed by one person alone who was physically strong, composed, and daring. The unknown offender would be quiet and harmless in appearance, possibly middle-aged, and neatly attired, probably wearing a cloak to hide the bloody effects of his attacks out in the open. He would be a loner, without a real occupation, eccentric, and mentally unstable. He might even suffer from a condition called Satyriasis, a sexual deviancy that is today referred to as hypersexuality or promiscuity. Bond also mentioned that he believed the offender had no anatomical knowledge and could not be a surgeon or butcher. Bond's basic profile was:

“The murderer must have been a man of physical strength and great coolness and daring... subject to periodic attacks of homicidal and erotic mania. The characters of the mutilations indicate that the man may be in a condition sexually, that may be called Satyriasis”[13]

In 1912, a psychologist in Lackawanna, New York delivered in lecture in which he analyzed an unknown criminal who was suspected of having murdered a local boy named Joey Joseph. Based on the postcards which had been used to taunt the Lackawanna Police and the Joseph family, the profile ultimately led to the arrest and conviction of J. Frank Hickey.[14]

A version of profiling is thought to have been used in the 1940s, when investigations relied on mental health professionals to create a profile of an offender in order to aid the police investigation.[15] Soon after, as discussed below, James Brussel was called upon to analyze the information on the Mad Bomber in New York City, and he created an accurate profile of the offender. This caught the attention of the FBI, who then worked to develop a technique for profiling, based on the process used by Brussel.

Careful, you're getting awful close to being called a whiner

Pay attention Rappy, this is how it's done

"I'm sorry you had to go through all that. They say life isn't fair, and that's fine, but sometimes dealing with the actual staggering inequities of life is just too damn much. I hope things get much better"

See? That didn't cost a thing. I didn't have to get involved in her life, or make a big deal. You say something nice and then move on, because it's something you CAN DO. You don't call someone a whiner, because it just shows YOUR insecurities in dealing with....ANYTHING, really.

My problem is, and always has been...I'm "Type A" My brain literally isn't equipped to deal with what I've been given. Just from being sick from last month I feel like I have PTSD, when I KNOW I should just be thankful I'm better and be able to move on... I CAN'T. I'm still unrelentingly angry for all these OTHER health problems, and even angrier no one has really heard of them

(which is the REAL reason I even brought them up after EIGHT YEARS of being on this site, not because I am looking for sympathy- you all should know I set no store by humanity by now...),

and that there is no hope of them ever being fixed.

I've got a life sentence to a slow death. If you figure out how to deal with that that, let me know, because it IS and always will be UNACCEPTABLE.

What you're " dealing with " personally, physically, has nothing to do with why the cops , who have nothing else better to do, keep pulling over hubby.
