Ok, Kanzi didn't actually figure out how to MAKE fire, sans instruments/ instruction...but he seems to understand what it does, basically. I wonder if this video were taken at night, would he show more interest in the fire ? I know humans love to sit around the fire and stare into it... whether it's cooking our food or not. Kanzi didn't really seem to care too much for it, 'cept for when food was being cooked. He'd sit far away from it, and had either his back or side towards it. It's almost as if he were being promoted to interact w/ it, with cooking a marshmallow or watching the lady cook something, or when it was time to put it out.

Still, pretty interesting.

I suspect if Kanzi had a family of his own that he was cooking food for using this knowledge that he'd take far more interest in the fire, as it would be his demonstration of awesomeness. Here, he is merely a student, though he seems to have initiated the idea, he seems to need help with it. It would be curious to see if that help were taken away, but the tools remained, if he would do it, and what he would do differently if he had an ape audience.
