Federal prosecutors in the US have been ordered to stop cannabis-related prosecutions in the 13 states where medical use of the drug is legal.

Attorney General Eric Holder said it was wrong for federal resources to be spent on prosecuting people who were in compliance with existing state laws.

But he warned that the authorities would continue to go after traffickers hiding behind medical marijuana laws.

Okay, that's a good start.

My state doesn't have medical marijuana clinics. Should we? Are these things for real, or are they just fronts for recreational pot use?

A bit of both. Marijuana DOES help with some diseases - glaucoma, for one, and many people report that it really helps them regain their appetite while they undergo chemotherapy for cancer treatment.

But yes, there are places where it is "abused" and used rather frivolously. Still, shall we ban all uses of everything that can be abused by a few?

Uh-huh, and who thinks this is actually going to STOP them any more than the law stops police from enforcing their whims, as mentioned in another thread here ?

Cause I damn sure don't.

It's gonna take more than words to slap the leash back on our supposed bastions of law and order now that they've had a taste of being petty lords - shoving a genie back in the bottle is never an easy, nor a pleasant, task.

We'll see what Holder does when one of em goes on and does it anyway, and I am guessing much of nothing.
