Technology cuts both ways.

And the best techies, by their very nature, will not work for the established order, which means they get the rejects and the refuse, second and third raters who often as not are running on a book education and little to no practical experience.

Besides which, a real simple trick ALREADY in use against interrogators which would be just as applicable against a thought skimmer - visualise yourself doing the naughtiest things you can imagine to the interrogator while smiling at them.

It creeps em out and throws em off their game NOW, heaven knows what it'd do if they had some inkling of the exact nature of those thoughts.
