So they built the lady some automail. Big deal.

"This is my timey-wimey detector. It goes ding when there's stuff. Also, it can boil an egg at 30 paces, whether you want it to or not, actually, so I've learned to stay away from hens. It's not pretty when they blow."

I have to say, from the perspective of someone who helps with prosthetic design that this looks pretty halfassed, it's not even innovative, as much as it is myoelectric by remote - and going around reconnecting nerves like that has longterm risk factors that just make me twitch.

I don't get the automail reference, but I do know my own docs like to crack jokes about me winding up a brain in a box if my health continues to decline - and I told em in that case they damn well better get started on a suit of powered armor, lol.

Or buy one from Japan - who's engineers have a right fine sense of humor and irony.

Ah, interesting.

For whatever reasons, I did not, and do not, suffer most of the pyschological issues relating to severe body damage and loss of limb.

I've met WAY too damn many people who have NO sense of humor about it - even got tossed out of a support group for trying to actually help them overcome, instead of being just another shoulder to cry on about it.

Me, I figure if you've got an artificial, there's advantages to go along with the hardships, and if there ain't, MAKE SOME.

Lesse, it's a right nifty way to hold a 2-litre on a long dry drive, just pop it off, stick it between the seats and fwump, drop a 2litre in that sucker - it's way more resistant to damage, you never have to worry bout barkin your shin on that side or having to match your socks, and mine has a set of spring-set ice walking spikes for when it gets nasty outside and everyone is slippin and sliding, as well as a small toolkit in a set of cloth pouches that's rolled around the center shaft and velcro'd in place.

Seriously, if you have to replace OEM parts, why NOT upgrade ?

Question,

My sister has a problem, she can't wear her brace anymore because the hip has fractured. The leg is of marginal use, as it has no bones below the knee. She doesn't really think amputation would help, but some sort of prosthetic or cybernetic device might help. The external leg brace has just been exacerbating the fracture. Any ideas?

I'd say you might wanna talk to my pet frankensteins regarding a Hip Abduction Orthosis in combination with lower extremity prosthetics.

Check your PMs.
