Damn... That's a bummer sigs.

If you can't repair it, I'd do some research before buying a new one. I hear that a lot of them today are crap even though the prices are sky high. I'd try to get one with as few computer parts on it as possible, since most of your repair bills in the future will be because of circuit board problems which may or may not be purposefully built into the products these days.

Knock on wood, but I bought a used Amana Washer/Dryer combo when I first moved here for $325 and they just work. I don't know how old they are, but I've had them for going on 14 years now myself. I'm sure there is a board or two underneath somewhere, but they'd be really simple things since there is nothing but dials and knobs on both machines without even a simple LED or LCD screen anywhere to be found.

I've heard that Amana is crap today though even though they used to be top-tier.

Done for today. Got something for the bath tub drain that I hope will work. Hearing aide office is closed until Tuesday. Wanted to go in and confirm my appointment for next month. Sign on the door they are closed because their receptionist is on holiday.

Also went into a store that sells used books and new along with vinyl records. I went in their looking for an album and found another one I want but I came out with a Dr. Who book. They do some publishing so I will take a look at their web site. Owner of the shop said take a look and maybe we can talk. Told him a bit about my book then we got onto other things. Think I spent over 10 minutes in that store. That is why I told him his store is bad. He said we try not to be bad. To me it is.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

According to the internet, Speed Queen (yes, they still make them!) and LG are both reliable. I'm leaning to Speed Queen cause my sis has a 30 year old machine.
In the meantime, it's the laundromat.

Oh... Speed Queen... Cool. I never heard of that brand before, but when I looked online it mentioned them specifically as one of the only brands you can still buy that aren't loaded up with a bunch of computer crap that you don't need. Hopefully you can snag one for a good price though because it sounds like you probably can't buy them at your local big box store and it might be special order.

I like this post that I saw from somebody on Reddit...

My washer and dryer came with my house—a 1990’s Maytag washer and an early 2000’s Amana dryer. You can pry my laundry set from my cold dead hands. In fact I will put them in my will to make sure they stay in the family. Heirlooms

With a little help from Goggle I found an easier way of accessing Word rather then going directly to the icon, which means getting off my home page. So that is good.

Nice quiet Sunday around me. Clean up then double checking a publishing website.

Out soon in the rain. Especially lovely when I didn't really sleep last night.

All done in the rain. Had to go back out in said rain because I forgot something that I needed. Ugh!

Almost done with the project. It's so close I can taste it.

Like I said, there's always more work to do and more things that can be added, but I do think that I will have finished the bulk if not all that I set out to do when I started it many years ago.

Got some real life stuff getting in the way of me wrapping it up quickly, but I should be able to maintain a balance between the two for a short while before I'm truly done and I figure out how to get it out there.

Between all the extra under the hood work that I've done and all the documentation, I've been able to also make this something that people can pick and choose what they'd want if they don't have 5TB handy to keep a full copy of the package. We're well beyond the 64GB thumbstick I started with, but if somebody wanted a minimum install it should fit on a 256GB thumb drive. You'd be gimping the experience by doing so, but it's also made in such a way where somebody could later decide to get a large drive and add a whole bunch to it peace-meal and they'd work together seamlessly.

This is arguably as big as when I dehoarded my house and got rid of 70% of the stuff I owned. It will be nice to not have this thing weighing me down in the back of my mind anymore after all these years.

I type Word into the search area on the taskbar and it brings up Word 2007 which is what is on the computer. Even brings up all my documents. I just it open at the top of the menu and voila a new Word page.

And the good thing for me is that I don't have to leave whatever else I maybe doing on the internet.

Nice Brenda. I'm aware that is a feature now, but I've been using Windows for so long that most of the time it wasn't so I tend to forget that it even exists, despite the fact that it always says "search" down there.

Like I said before, there's a lot of ways to do pretty much everything in Windows, and really no wrong way to do any of it as long as it makes sense to you and is easy to get there.

Right.

Are you aware that you can "PIN" your frequently used programs on the taskbar and make it even easier to open them?

Try it out. Next time you open your browser and Word, you see the icon in the taskbar there? Bring your pointer over it, right click on that with your mouse and it will bring up a Context Menu. Depending on the program there will be anywhere from 2 options that pop up to quite a few. Sometimes those options will be a list of your most recently opened files within that program (like your book in word, for instance).

One of the options though will be "Pin to Taskbar".

If you left click on "Pin to Taskbar" the icon will remain on the taskbar even after you close the internet or word.

Then any time you want to open those programs all you have to do is click on them and they open without even searching.

Even better, on when you pin Word to the taskbar, you can right click on it and your book will be one of the Context Menu options as long as it was one of the last 10 or so Word Documents that you opened and you won't even have to search for your book to open it.

For most people there is plenty of room on that taskbar for all of the icons of their most used programs. You're probably only going to need a few. With all my computer work I use a ton of programs and I've never even run out of taskbar space. But I do tend to add and remove programs pretty frequently. When I know that I'm done using something for good or even just for a really long time I remove it just so I'm not clogging up the interface with stuff I won't be using.
