I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. When I'm on my game, I don't do that and everything has its place, but I haven't exactly been on my game for the better part of 2 years now. There's been a few MASSIVE cleanups in between, but it really is a chore when I let things pile up instead of putting them where they belong or taking care of them right away. I've got a process for my mail and nothing goes out with my name or address. Important stuff goes in one pile and gets looked at frequently, but that junk mail has really piled up out of control a few times when I had been keeping up with that for years.

I finally got caught up on yardwork besides the few lawn mowings I'll still have to do this year, and really busting my butt trying to get that landscaping in the back done, so it's still all piling up inside, but I've been having people over more often so it forces me to clean things up when I do.

Maybe that's what you need. You ever invite any of the mahjong ladies over for lunch or coffee/tea?

Yeah, drowning them would be a problem for you. I'm glad you warned your neighbours when you were using smoke bombs. Trying to remember what my dad did or my mum's friend's husband. And I can't. My dad may have tried the drowning but mind we were out in the sticks and there were no holes close to the house.

Nothing else seems to work besides those bombs, although I'm sure the water would work if circumstances were different. Even if it didn't drown it, it might force it out of the holes so I could get at it. I've tried all the other stuff on the market and nothing but the smoke bombs have worked.

But at the end of the day I don't really care about killing it anymore. I'll just get another one in a year or two anyhow. They're very territorial, so chances are I only have one. Worst case scenario I have one in my front yard and another in my back yard. So since 1 or 2 of them are always going to make their way back here anyhow, I think it's best that I just do what I'm doing to protect the important bits like the landscaping and the foundations and resign myself to having a "country lawn".

So far, so good. Put a ton of stuff down today. I actually have a full shape of some sort that is completely fenced in now, and a lot of that was part of its main travel tunnel. And I've caved in all the holes and flattened all the sand in there. Fingers crossed that there's no new damage there tomorrow.

Yeah... Had to do it. Once you start getting cranky and frustrated nothing good comes out of that work. I should have just quit an hour earlier and started with that tomorrow. Oh well.

My library just got in the first season with new Doctor. I'm in the middle of it right now and I've got no complaints except for the companion. And off and on for years I have found some of them totally ditzy and Ruby Sunday certainly fits that bill.

Yeah. She's cute, but i heard the same thing about her. Does this Doctor really cry every single episode?

Also when I was in Alberta, I got myself the complete DVD set of Emergency. An old fave from when I was in high school. And I also got the last season of M*A*S*H which includes the finale, "Good-bye, Farewell and Amen."

Never heard of Emergency before. Man... I haven't seen an episode of M*A*S*H in forever. I remember watching reruns when I was a kid but most of those jokes and subjects were over my head at the time. Maybe I should watch that myself one day. But doesn't it have like 300 episodes or something? Almost seems like homework tat that point.

Well, remember when I moved in here and started unpacking I thought I had lost my music books. And I found them in another pile. That's what happens on the kitchen table. I put down something important then it gets covered with other stuff.

Good. The lawn mowing you shouldn't let slide. You don't know how early winter could come this year.

Maybe I should try inviting people over again. It could help.

The water would force them out of their holes for sure.

That's good. And one or two isn't bad but still if you don't realize the holes are there. You could hurt yourself.

I know about getting frustrated with stuff. My writing when something isn't working. I have to leave it for bit.

Yeah, Ruby Sunday is very ditzy. Well, he did in the one I watched last night. Haven't been keeping track of that.

Emergency was one of the shows that combined paramedics with firefighters and hospital. It was really good. And it would have been before your time. It ran about six seasons. I loves me some Johnny Gage. This is just a little set of M*A*S*H discs. The show ran 11 seasons and no way would I buy all of those. I got kind of a deal on these two.

You know why.

You didn't happen to find them when you were looking for something else, did you?

I remember reading a story in school about that called Serendipity, and I've always loved that word ever since.

Quote:

Uggh... It's already getting long again, even though it hasn't rained for a while and we're back up in the 80's. I'm sure I'll have to do it by the weekend. I might even have to take time away from the project to do it on Friday because I think my buddy wants to hang out this weekend and my schedule is way more flexible than his is.

Quote:

Maybe you could get a few cool board games or something and offer them a different experience than the usual Mah Jong? Or even just Hearts or Spades and a deck of cards?

I'd probably go out of my way to have refreshments and snacks the first time, but if it goes well and you make it a regular thing one day, maybe make it a pot luck thing or something so you're not always the one spending the cash, right?

But yeah... If you could do that, I'm sure you'd keep up with the tidiness if you're anything like me. Every time my old man comes over I tell him, prepare for my house to be messy as hell and he always says he doesn't care, but then the day comes that he's stopping by and I always get up a few hours early and scramble to clean if it wasn't already cleaned up.

It really helps. I buried myself deep into that project work over the winter and didn't really socialize much. When I did, I always went somewhere else and didn't have people over because I really let the place become a mess. For the last few months though I don't go more than 3 weeks without a visitor by design. Forces me to do what I should already be doing if I'm not doing it.

Not going to lie...

I broke down and flooded the holes. Thanks for the idea, Brenda. Never even thought of that until you said it, and this morning I decided it was worth it even if it meant I'd get water in the basement (and I didn't get any in the basement).

I don't know if I killed it, and I said last night I was just going to let it live, but that son of a bitch went right ahead and made a new hole from the top of the soil under the pavers in front of the shed that I quit on yesterday. I was LIVID. It's just a good thing that I hadn't actually done those yet, or that anger would have been amplified ten fold.

This new hole only went about one foot in. I think he was hiding. I can't remember why they leave their holes, but they do, and I believe they generally do that at night when it happens. And from what I saw this morning he was being stalked or hunted by something bigger. Along the side of the garage nearest the porch in between my walkway from the driveway to the service door was an area that was basically done and ready to have the stone put down before I finished last night. I saw paw prints in the sand all along there this morning. Not huge prints, but at least cat sized. And I also saw where it appears the mole tried to make a tunnel under the walkway to the service door and was immediately blocked by my fence, which was a location of one of his main traveler tunnels. So once he figured out the hard way that he was blocked out of it, he must have gone across to the shed to hide out in a new hole. He probably swims in that top layer of sand as if he were a bird coasting in the air, so I bet it was a quick getaway for him.

So once I saw all of this, I got that hose and put it into the hole that I've been staring at ever since I pulled all the weeds, right under my 5.5 ft tall stack of river rock and put it on full blast for about 10 minutes. I couldn't BELIEVE how long it took for that to finally start flooding out of the hole. That water must have traveled all over the yard under the grass in all the zig-zag and curly-cue one-time feeding tunnels it makes as well as the straight travelers along the foundations. Maybe it was even connected to the front yard. I never saw any water rise up anywhere else other than the hole I had the hose in.

Did I get it? Don't know...

Hoping to see no new damage tomorrow.

Finished making the nice raised paver foundation in front of the shed and fencing it all off, and I even put the weed fabric down and almost nine 52lb. bags of river rock are now down between the garage and my service door walkway.

Looks great. Feels real good. I'm exhausted.

Haha... Let me know if he does. I heard some people say that he breaks down and cries in every episode in both seasons except for one episode that I believe is entirely about Ruby and his presence in it is more like a cameo.

I don't know Johnny Gage, but I know Johnny Cage from Mortal Kombat. I wonder if he or one of the characters he played was the inspiration for his name. He looks too skinny for that though, at least in Emergency. Did he bulk up a little when he got older and play a cool guy wearing sunglasses?

Do you have something like Goodwill up there? I've seen people luck into really cool DVD sets from Goodwill for really cheap.

"I don't find this stuff amusing anymore." ~Paul Simon

Unfortunately no. I found my music books under a pile of papers ready to be shredded. I was doing the shredding when I found them.

Buddies are good but mowing before snow is also a good thing.

I've got older games but I don't think the mah jong ladies would be interested in them. I do have a proper set of mah jong tiles. There are a couple of ladies that do host games at their homes. So, always a thought. Though, it would mean my having to work up my nerve to do it. I will admit that rejection scares me.

It would make me clean up a little better if someone were to come over for a coffee or something to have a talk.

You're welcome. Like I said that came from an old memory.

Oh, no. At least you didn't flood your basement. It may have been hiding with you moving around so much above it. They would leave to look for food. I'm not sure what a mole eats. Would have to look that up. I think they are more active at night as they would be a prey animal.

He probably has tunnels running all over under your lawn. Moles tunnels rarely have only one entrance, like any other burrowing animal.

Yeah, always good when you finish part of a project.

The whole one about Ruby is in the first season and I'll see.

Nah, he has never bulked up and by him, I mean the actor Randolph Mantooth. Always a skinny guy. He played Gage in Emergency. Another one of my crushes. All that thick black hair and those brown eyes. Oh, yeah. Last thing I saw him in was Sons of Anarchy. It was in a later season and he was Chief of a local tribe. The Sons were moving or going to move drugs onto his reserve and he basically told them to take off or they would wind up dead. Randolph Mantooth is Seminole. He was almost 80 at the time and still a very handsome man. . I didn't know he was in the show until I saw him.

There are a couple of Thrift stores in my area and the Salvation Army one downtown. I sometimes check the thrift stores for DVDs. That's how I got my copy of Gladiator.

Good luck at Mah Jong, Brenda.

I gotta go outside and work through today. I can't deal with the two psychopaths here right now. I'll reply to your last post later tonight.

Can't win them all, Brenda... :(

Felt like crap myself by 4:30 and had to wrap it up early today. Got the mole holes taken care of under the staircase into the porch and rebuilt all of that after getting it all cleaned off. Skipped working on the walkway to the garage service door because it was getting late and I wanted to work on rocks and feel like I got something done. I got all the weed fabric down and 30 bags of rocks, but still a ton more to do. Not enough done to make for good pictures to look at yet.

Hoping to get a decent night sleep tonight and get back to it tomorrow after cutting my day short by 3 hours today. I think I should be able to fix the walkway and fence the other side of it in so I can get all the rocks done by the end of the day if I'm feeling up to it.

Yeah... I feel ya. Never did well with rejection myself. I remember going to a underage (21 and under/no alcohol) dance club with a high school buddy when we were like 18 years old and saw him get up on a girl with his dancing and she turned around and saw him and made an "eww" face and pushed his hands off of her and he just did an Alfred E. Newman "what me worry?" face and started dancing with another stranger and they hit it off. I remember thinking, that first reaction not only would have ruined my night, but I'd still be dwelling about it 20 years later. And actually, I'm still thinking about it 27 years later, so I'm probably still feeling his rejection almost 3 decades later about something that I'm sure he doesn't even remember happened.

I don't know your situation and I'm not the best at making new friends myself so I'm probably not the right person to give any advice.

It's just a shame you feel that way because you're really good people, and they should be flattered that you would invite them over for a change of pace.

How about Winter? Do you keep playing year round, or go on hiatus when it's snowing and cold out? Maybe you could make a suggestion that you keep the games going all year round and take turns going to each other's places to play? Maybe that wouldn't feel like rejection if they said no to that since they'd be rejecting the idea of going to everyone's place???

Quote:

You're welcome. Like I said that came from an old memory.

Oh, no. At least you didn't flood your basement. It may have been hiding with you moving around so much above it. They would leave to look for food. I'm not sure what a mole eats. Would have to look that up. I think they are more active at night as they would be a prey animal.

No. I can't remember why they go out. It might just be to cool off at night or to stretch the muscles or something. They're blind, and the safest place for them is underground. It's also where they get all of their food. They dig so many damn holes because they need to eat their own body weight in subterranean insects every day to live, because of how many calories they burn hunting the bugs.

Quote:

He probably has tunnels running all over under your lawn. Moles tunnels rarely have only one entrance, like any other burrowing animal.

Oh yeah... They're everywhere. My lawnmower bounces all around when I mow because of them, and it's a huge lawn. I found another hole today I didn't know about yesterday and I had the water running in that one for 16 minutes before it started backing up on me. This one was kind of cool to watch though and I took a video of it. The whole time you'd see a bunch of bubbles come up out of the hole and pop when they hit the surface. The other hole didn't do that. I believe the mole has an oily hide so it kind of solidifies the dirt that it digs and the tunnels don't collapse.

Wow! It's starting to feel like autumn around where I am for sure. Can't go outside now without a jacket on. Suppose to get rain on Sunday evening then into Monday and Tuesday.

I can remember getting a crush on a boy in high school. Exchange student. French. But I just couldn't go up to him and he found himself a girl anyway.

I'm really no good at making new friends either.

We play all year round at the senior's centre. Only times we don't is on holidays and there thrift sale which is twice a year.

There's 3 ladies that host games at the beginning of the week. On Monday they play at one house. Not sure if they play on Sunday. They play sometimes on a Wednesday at the centre. Every so often I get called to play.

I could I guess make the offer and get some treats in and make coffee.

I forgot moles were blind and spend most of their lives underground.

Maybe the hole you found today was not easily seen yesterday.

Cool. I don't think I've seen bubbles coming out of hole in ground when water is run through it.

That's the way I approach my writing.

Just started on the Legend of Ruby Sunday last night and he is in it a lot. This story goes back to one with Tom Baker. Think the title was the Pyramid of Mars and was the first time I saw the Doctor. He had defeated Sutekh the Egyptian god of the Underworld or death. Can't remember which. They even had clips from that Tom Baker episode.

Yeah, as I remember he wasn't in many episodes. But it was nice to see him in something again.

I can't remember half the characters for the show now. Outside of Ron Pearlman and the wife off of Married with Children. There was an actor on the show from the UK. Had a big scar on his face. Character's name was Chib.

Yeah, I just went in to have a look and found it one shelf. That shop has closed up now. But there are 3 others. Two where I am and the Sally Ann down town.

I only pick up things I like now. Like Gladiator and Emergency and various other thigs. I've got things like Alien Nation.

Speaking of bad. I woke up around 3am this morning to something smelling like melting plastic. I had used my heating pad for my knees, so I thought I had left it on but I hadn't. Took me a bit to realize what I was smelling was pot. I smelt pot on my floor before and I don't like it. There is suppose to be a security guard in this building but I never see him.

And I know you have DD to worry about with all that work you're always doing tending to the house. So this isn't an attack on YOU, okay?

I think a real big part of the current seismic shift we're going through is because the oldest of the Boomer generation is starting to die off and/or go senile, and now it's Gen X rather unwillingly and/or uncaringly becoming the senior generation.

I think we're all just kind of sitting here like "oh... for fuck's sake. What are we going to do now? Our grandparents all died and things got way worse because our parents all kind of sucked and were huge disappointments. And now our parents are all dying off too... and we just sat back and let these dipshit Millennials get in line to take it all over 2 decades ago... And then we watched them speedrun everything from comics and movies to the economy and society in general into the fucking ground while the Boomer Politicians and Senior Management were too busy to babysit them, what with having their schedules full of stacking that cash with all that insider trading, selling the rest of us out and drooling on themselves.

And the Millennials weren't even our fucking kids man... They're our step/half brothers and sisters from our Boomer parents' second failed marriages.

It's like they raised two pretty awful generations of kids overall, but the 2nd experiment was just WAY worse than the first one was...

I would venture a guess that the Baby Boomer Generation in America held more power for longer than any other in the country ever has before them. That's one-third because of how fucking greedy and full of ambition Baby Boomers are, As A Group. It's one-third how self-centered and full of ambition Millennials are, as a group. And it's one-third because of how fucking lazy and/or disaffected and/or uninterested Generation X is in politics or saving the world, as a group. Nihilism was kind of our thing. I have half of a decent friend roster who never made it out of their 20's to back that up. I'd blame TV for it, but that would make me sound like a fucking Boomer.

I think Gen X is like "Fuck This". I was fine with not having to take any responsibility as long as the people who really wanted it were more or less doing right by us, even if they were fucking us over. Boomers fucked everybody, but they just had a gentler touch, and only pushed that envelope a little bit at a time, so subtle that most people didn't even really notice the glacial shift until it was way too late.

The Millennials got in there and said "LET'S BURN THIS MOTHERFUCKER DOWN AND REBUILD IT THE WAY WE WANT IT!"

But their only two problems were that none of them were in agreement about what the way they wanted it would look like, and even if they were, not a single one of them ever built anything beyond LEGO sets and haven't held a fucking hammer in their hands since their Boomer parents gave their Builder Bob plastic tool belt to Goodwill.

To this day, nobody ever talks about Gen X.

I've only rarely even heard murmurings from only a handful of sources even mentioning Gen X, and that didn't start until right after the election results were finally in.

Yanno... They raised us to not really bother going for a degree unless we were top of the class and gung-ho for going there. But they didn't bother teaching us any skills either. We were just kind of left on our own, to our own devices. Then what was left of the non-union, non-nepobaby jobs and Government jobs were either shipped overseas or gated behind a Degree Requirement post-9/11 and we all started working retail and basically the same shit jobs we were working when we were 16.

But we know a lot of shit. We've had to learn a lot of stuff on our own. Things like YouTube was one of the greatest that ever happened to us. The idea that you need to go to college to do 90% of the stupid shit that people do at jobs today is just nuts to us.

For instance, I just found out last night that I don't qualify for applying to ICE. Not for Ted's asinine reason that there's a height requirement and that I wouldn't fit it when I'm average sized. And not even for my only concern about rejection, which would be my Diabetes diagnosis. Nope...

It's because I don't have a fucking bachelor's degree... Can you believe that? The requirements were either prior military service and/or some amount of time in Law Enforcement yada, yada, yada, OR some heavy amount of volunteer work in your history, OR a bachelor's degree. IN ANYTHING. No requirements at all for that degree. Just that you have that piece of paper.

Not that they would ever hire one, but that means that even in Trump's America, a pink haired Millennial Barrista at Starbucks who celebrated Charlie Kirk's death last night with a degree in Gender Studies would fulfill the minimum requirements to put in an application to be an ICE agent, but I wouldn't.

And so, we're the No Step on Snek generation of Meh...

But we're also the generation who learned to bend all the rules without breaking them to get what we want, which mostly meant just being left the fuck alone. Those of us still hanging around have a lot of reading and self-learning under our belts. Street smart and book smart, but without most of that college debt we always hear everyone under a certain age bitching and whining about all the time.

If there's one thing we don't like, it's being fucked with.

And I think we've all pretty much decided that all this Millennial Fuckery that the Boomers still in power just abetted and forced everyone else to endure for 20 years has gone on for just about long enough.

I think I know why you Boomers fucked up two generations so bad. You spanked your GenX babies and yelled at them way too much, and then you never laid a hand on your Millennial babies from the guilt and let them walk all over you and in the process they never learned to grow up. They're like the Peter Pan generation of fucking morons who don't know how anything works but believe they're all geniuses because they all went to college.

In any event, we're fucking done with 'em.

You might not have spanked them, but we possess no such moral quandary.

We'll be sure give them an extra spanking for ya.

I never had allergies before, but I sure do now. They don't make me feel sick, but there are some days when I'm working outside where my nose just won't stop itching and maybe even running a bit, and sometimes it gets so bad my eyes well up a bit too. Super annoying.

Quote:

My days of being walked over by other people are over. Most of my life I'd let little things like this slide, but just put them on the pile of things that fester and build up until some unlucky SOB says the wrong thing to me one day and gets the full force of the volcano that had built up since the last time I erupted.

You seem to have a much healthier way of dealing with these annoyances than I do, so I'm not saying that you should tell her about it. I still understand the desire to keep the peace, but my bag of "fu*ks to give" is all empty now. I'm just going to spend the rest of my life doing what my grandpa did and telling everyone exactly what I think all the time.

Quote:

Wow! It's starting to feel like autumn around where I am for sure. Can't go outside now without a jacket on. Suppose to get rain on Sunday evening then into Monday and Tuesday.

Yeah. We have ourselves a little heat spell around here. Highs in at least the mid 80's until next Tuesday they're saying now, with at least one hitting 90 again like today.

I told you my Grandma said every year that the Chicago Tribune used to call it Injun Summer. You didn't seem to mind it when I said that before. She never meant it as an insult. It was just the way people talked back then.

Quote:

I can remember getting a crush on a boy in high school. Exchange student. French. But I just couldn't go up to him and he found himself a girl anyway.

Heh... yeah. Most of the girls I dated came up to me. I was terminally shy until around 19/20 years old, but most of that "courage" came from drinking. Usually stuff like "fear of rejection" comes from a specific moment when you were young, but I never identified that moment, or it has been buried so deep I just could never reach back and find it so I could POP it like a zit.

Quote:

I'm really no good at making new friends either.

I think most adults are like that Brenda. Its why maintaining the relationships that you made while growing up is so important, and I'm really glad you got to see some old friends on that vacation and I hope you make plans to do it again soon.

Quote:

Yeah. Right. I saw you mention that somewhere else after I asked the question. I don't know why, but whenever you talked about playing I always imagined you and the other ladies playing outside in the nice weather on a picnic bench or something.

Quote:

There's 3 ladies that host games at the beginning of the week. On Monday they play at one house. Not sure if they play on Sunday. They play sometimes on a Wednesday at the centre. Every so often I get called to play.

Couldn't hurt. Don't let it get to you if they don't seem receptive when you bring it up. A lot of people get into their own patterns and don't like trying new things. Knowing you as I do here, it would be their loss if they didn't want to come over, and I hope you wouldn't take that to heart. If they're reasonable people who aren't locked in rigidly on their own schedules, I would think they'd be more than happy to have another place to go to and one less week where they had to worry about hosting and providing snacks and drinks.

I hope it works out. I haven't really hosted anything in years, but back when I did I always found it to be pretty exciting and fun.

Is that the one that centers around her? I just remember people talking about the episode where the Dr. was hardly in it, and it was the only episode in his 2 seasons that he didn't cry at some point.

How's that going so far? Has there been any episodes where he doesn't cry now that you've been paying attention?

Quote:

I pretty much just watch YouTube these days when I'm watching something. I find it to be a lot more intersting than most TV shows and Movies that have come out in the last 10 or 20 years, honestly. Most of the stuff I watch is when I'm with my dad and/or brother, or at one of my friend's houses.

That's like the Senior building that my disabled brother lives in. If he wasn't disabled, they wouldn't let him in because it's only for people 62 or 65 and up with low income. Its a federal building so there's no smoking cigarettes or weed in there, but every time I go you can smell it and I laugh because that's how it was at my girlfriend's dorm at ISU when I was 20 or so.

It's funny. When you're a little kid, you think adults have it all figured out. Then you hit your 40's and realize that you still haven't figured anything out, and the people you thought did are just as lost as you are.

We'll make great pets one day.

Don't mention feeling bad. I am once again caught between my allergies and what feels like a cold.

I never had allergies before, but I sure do now. They don't make me feel sick, but there are some days when I'm working outside where my nose just won't stop itching and maybe even running a bit, and sometimes it gets so bad my eyes well up a bit too. Super annoying.

Quote:

Though I do think it is more allergies because it didn't start until a lady walked into the mah jong room this morning with a heavy dose of perfume on or body wash. Almost as soon as I smelt it I got a headache. I hate that stuff.

Also the senior's centre is suppose to be a scent free building because of allergies. Ugh!

Quote:

We play all year round at the senior's centre. Only times we don't is on holidays and there thrift sale which is twice a year.

Yeah.

I could I guess make the offer and get some treats in and make coffee.

Quote:

I forgot moles were blind and spend most of their lives underground.

Maybe the hole you found today was not easily seen yesterday.

Cool. I don't think I've seen bubbles coming out of hole in ground when water is run through it.

Yeah... I think I may have got it either yesterday or the day before with the water. No new activity spotted today either.

That's the way I approach my writing.

It's a lot healthier than the way I usually do things. I'm either 200% in or ZERO. Gotta try to find that balance.

Is that the one that centers around her? I just remember people talking about the episode where the Dr. was hardly in it, and it was the only episode in his 2 seasons that he didn't cry at some point.

How's that going so far? Has there been any episodes where he doesn't cry now that you've been paying attention?

Quote:

Yeah, as I remember he wasn't in many episodes. But it was nice to see him in something again.

I can't remember half the characters for the show now. Outside of Ron Pearlman and the wife off of Married with Children. There was an actor on the show from the UK. Had a big scar on his face. Character's name was Chib.

Oh. I remember Chib and the scar. Older guy with a lot of facial hair, right? I think his hair/beard/mustache was black?

I remember Pearlman and Peg Bundy, and was it "Jax" or "Jacks" was the "main" character with the blonde hair?

Quote:

Yeah, I just went in to have a look and found it one shelf. That shop has closed up now. But there are 3 others. Two where I am and the Sally Ann down town.

I only pick up things I like now. Like Gladiator and Emergency and various other thigs. I've got things like Alien Nation.

Quote:

Speaking of bad. I woke up around 3am this morning to something smelling like melting plastic. I had used my heating pad for my knees, so I thought I had left it on but I hadn't. Allergies usually don't but I am well familiar with runny eyes, runny nose, itchy eyes that when scratched a lot go red. Sneezing there is another symptom of allergies. I developed them when I was around 8years old. Not fun.

Talk to a pharmacist and see what you can take to treat them. There has got to be something on the market you can use with your meds.

Well, I am thinking I will just disrupt my table and walk out of the room. My health is more important than a game. And if the other ladies get bent out of shape oh well. I don't need their grief.

Well, I don't want to blast anyone but headache was brutal. So bad I had to take a tylenol before I went to bed.

I am very sensitive to perfumes that women can buy of the shelf in the cosmetic department. They are loaded with alcohol and some body washes are too and that is what I am reacting too.

Jack, I grew up with the phrase Indian Summer and I still use it to this day. My friends in Alberta do, my dad did. Doesn't bother me in the least. I love an Indian Summer when the leaves are just starting to turn colour.

Playing outside wouldn't be bad in the summer but October, November, December until at least May. Yeah, not good. Too wet and cold to that.

I'd really have to screw on my courage.

In a way I am sorry for the little guy but it's not safe for walking on your lawn. You don't need to sued if someone hurts themselves in a mole hole.

Well, with my writing there is so much to figure out where this piece goes and that piece. Funny thing my friend in Alberta had a radio on in the backyard and it gave me an idea. I was quite upset but I wrote 2 different versions and now it is just figuring out version to use.

More or less the Legend of Ruby Sunday is about her. Hasn't cried so far but this Doctor is very easily frustrated. So, this episode is more like Doctor #4, which was Tom Baker's doctor. Like I said each actor who takes up the role has to be able to bring traits of the others out too.

Don't feel obligated to read or reply to everything here, Brenda. I'm writing this right before I post, because I really let this one get away from me and I guess I was writing a short story tonight.

Been working out some things in my mind lately, and finally getting back to working on the house while the weather is still good has been working wonders for me too.

I appreciate ya either way.

Yeah... I won't do it though. I'll probably just do what I usually do and suffer through it. I still wouldn't know I had diabetes if it wasn't actually killing me not knowing.

Yeah. Sometimes you need to set the boundaries. I try not to complain to people much about their behavior or particular things, because I know I don't want people telling me what they think about what I do. But sometimes you've got to let them know.

My only problem goes back to that volcano thing though, and when somebody does cross the line on something I won't just look the other way on, they tend to get a disproportionate reaction from me because I'm unleashing some other stuff on them that they had nothing to do with. Watched and was also on the receiving end of my mom and step-dad doing that, and as much as you sometimes hate to admit it, the folks tend to rub off on you far more than you wish they did.

My old man was the complete opposite though. In my entire life, he's only yelled at me once, and boy let me tell you that I deserved it. I don't even know how he managed it, because with raising 5 boys across two marriages and all the court battles and half of his money stolen from him over the years, he just managed to keep an even-keel at all times. He never abused anyone. He never did drugs. He quit drinking by the time I was maybe 5 years old and it was never a problem for him anyhow (believe me, if it were, I would have heard about that 10,000 times from my mom while growing up). He quit smoking before he was 40. And he's always just been "never angry" dad. But he's also almost never particularly happy or smiling either. It's why I've learned to stop being so serious about anything when I talk to him these and I always try to say something funny because it feels good to make him laugh. And I'm REALLY trying to pull him away from the politics that we started talking about way too much ever since the Covid lockdowns. We have a lot of overlapping tastes and opinions on a wide variety of things, so it's usually not hard to fit a joke in somewhere that I know will get a laugh out of him. I've noticed that he's reciprocating that too. I didn't really know he was funny when I was growing up. He loved funny things, and he turned me on to things like Monty Python and Weird Al when I was growing up, but he never really told any jokes. I guess it turns out that if you got the right audience and just let 'em rip, you can bring some levity to people you didn't think you could, and they can actually do the same for you when you didn't think anybody could.

I'm going to miss him real bad some day. I'm grateful to him that he's really taking care of himself these days, both with exercise and diet and always going to the doctor on the proper schedule and getting anything taken care of that needs taking care of. He might even outlive me at this rate, but I'm going to do my best to make sure that doesn't happen. I know it was real hard on my Grandma to outlive 2 of her kids, and I know he saw her go through that and that he'd never want that to happen.

Jack, I grew up with the phrase Indian Summer and I still use it to this day. My friends in Alberta do, my dad did. Doesn't bother me in the least. I love an Indian Summer when the leaves are just starting to turn colour.

That's so cool. Not just that you grew up with it and it doesn't bother you and it's just "what we say". You didn't even remark on the fact that it was "Injun" and not Indian and replied as if they were interchangeable. Things like context and intent are what's important, and I think you're brilliant at intuiting things from people once you've sat back and observed somebody or something for a while. Never in a million years would I use a word like Injun to insult you, but I don't even need to tell you that because you already knew that a long time ago.

Can't speak for anybody else, but I just remember a time when thoughts like this never even crossed my mind. I think the first time I ever thought in any similar thought pattern to this would be when I'd just watched Back to the Future with my old man and my brothers and Marty says "You Bastards!" when Doc got shot. I was playing basketball with my dad and he got a shot on me and I said "You Bastard" and he did not approve.

It was just like... Man... Why is Dad making me feel bad about using that word? I heard Marty say it. I don't even know what it means. And then I found out what it means one day and I couldn't even understand why people considered it a cuss word. I still don't to this day.

And then I think of things like growing up with Aunt Jemima or the Chiquita Banana woman or the Land O Lakes woman or Uncle Ben. As a kid you grow up thinking they were probably some famous or important people at some point. You didn't have any internet to Google it. As we discussed earlier, our parents didn't really know shit just like we don't. So I think, at least for me, I just probably grew up believing whatever story I made in my head for why things were the way they were without any real answers to anything.

But then for the last 15 or 20 years they've just been taking everything like that away and making everything corporate and sterile and PC and "Safe". And then they've tried to make me feel guilty about it for some reason, as if I grew up in a family where we all sat around at dinner while eating rice and made fun of Uncle Ben for being a black guy, or the Land o Lakes woman for being an Indian.

When I was growing up I collected baseball cards. I watched basketball with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Back in those times everything was still pretty segregated, at least where I lived, so I don't think I actually saw a black person in person until going downtown Chicago for the first time when I was maybe 6 or 7 years old, and I didn't actually talk to any strangers while I was there with my brothers and cousins and mom and uncle. So it was probably high school when I actually had real dialog with a black person. But to make the long story short, I think I was at least 12 years old when I found out how much drugs and violence there actually was in black cities. I didn't even know black people did drugs because up until that point, I think I kind of thought of them as almost super heroes. The only ones I knew by name were on my baseball cards or carrying the Bulls to their first or many future championships.

I don't know what happened, but somebody poisoned a very big well somewhere along the way. I think they had it right until somewhere in the early to mid 2000's and it all just sort of turned into crap. When I went out with a pretty large group of friends either to the bars or partying nearly every weekend, at one point I gave us the name "Chan Clan". That was because our short, gay, Asian friend's name was Chan and everybody thought it was funny when I said it so it kind of stuck. We had the whole rainbow of races and plenty of girls that all just hung out together all the time. And it wasn't because somebody was collecting them like Pokemon or anything. We just all sort of fell into a group together and nobody even talked about race or anything.

GenX had everything going right. We didn't even have the phrase "race relations" in our lexicon. We just didn't think about it and if you were cool you were cool. I dunno. Maybe I'm naive and we actually had something more special than I give it credit for. But I'd like to think pretty much all of us were doing it back then and only now thinking about stuff like that in retrospect because somebody came in and made everything about it 24/7 some time after the internet became a thing everybody used.

Awwww, shit. I got on a soapbox. I know that anything that I've said here doesn't even need to be said to you because you already know. I wasn't writing that for any knuckleheads that are lurking around here either. I think I just needed to write that and get some thoughts off my chest is all...

Sorry... Back to our conversation.

Quote:

Do you ever play outside? Do you have tables out there to do it, somewhere where there wouldn't be enough other people around as to distract from the game? Maybe you should suggest it if it's possible during the nice weather.

Quote:

I think you owe it to yourself to be courageous.

Quote:

In a way I am sorry for the little guy but it's not safe for walking on your lawn. You don't need to sued if someone hurts themselves in a mole hole.

Yeah... I didn't want to do it. Like I said just a day or two earlier, I was probably just going to let them live for now on because it would only be a matter of time before another one comes in to terrorize me anyhow. But I was just so mad when I saw it right by my brand new work, and beyond the emotion I really felt that it needed to be done because I haven't buttoned everything up yet and I can't have it wreaking havoc on things that are only halfway done. It hasn't been around for a few days, so I hope it's death was quick and painless. Maybe I should stick a cigarette in the hole. I had a buddy named Joe in high school who was American Indian and when we went out for burgers one day we saw a cop shoot a raccoon. Craziest thing, since this was the suburbs and you don't see that everyday. According to the cops on the scene, it was rabid. My buddy Joe had it in his head that we had to get tobacco and give it as an offering. And that's exactly what we did. I haven't talked to that dude in over 20 years. I can't remember what tribe he was from. You wouldn't be able to narrow that down at all by fact he felt compelled to give the dead raccoon tobacco as an offering, would you?

You would have loved Joe. I mean literally too. He was something like 6 foot 3 inches with black hair halfway down his back. He would brush his hair in class, but it wasn't out of vanity... more like a cat preening. If he were the player type, he would have just probably gone through every girl in that high school. But I never saw him with a girl and he never talked about one. Then he went to college, met a woman 20 years older than him and suddenly he dropped everything in his life to move down to Florida with her. Brilliant guy, and one of the most interesting people I knew, who always just came up with off the wall questions you never heard anybody else ask. Shame we lost touch. I think about a lot of my old friends these days and wonder what they're up to.

Quote:

Well, with my writing there is so much to figure out where this piece goes and that piece. Funny thing my friend in Alberta had a radio on in the backyard and it gave me an idea. I was quite upset but I wrote 2 different versions and now it is just figuring out version to use.

Respect for you for doing it. I like writing too, but just like this, like we're doing now. Or what I do in the political threads or whatever too. That's much different, but I wouldn't be doing it so often if part of me didn't enjoy it.

No rules. No format to fit it into a book or a story. I have a real hard time getting myself to do rigid things until I decide I want to rigidly do that one thing. As much as writing a book or even a story has always been something I've wanted to do, I've never got it in me that it was going to BE THE THING that I'm going to do. It's another one of those Balance issues I'd love to correct one day. Like right now... I will literally do no other major thing until I get these rocks finished now, and as for everything else, I will do the absolute bare minimum necessary to keep functioning in between the work until it's done.

And who knows how many hours per day I can spend just being on this site or YouTube in between, and I wonder why I feel like there's not enough hours in the day.

Quote:

He hasn't cried at all? Huh... Well the guy who was saying he cried every episode was from the UK. Maybe the word crying has a different primary connotation there than it does here? I don't think the guy who said it would actively and purposefully lie to his viewers and say that when it didn't happen. So maybe where he's from in the UK, when they say "he's crying all the time" all it means is that he's always bitching and complaining or just getting frustrated, as you said? That's got to be it. Now I feel kind of bad for imagining this Dr. actually breaking down in tears in every episode.

But I think he actually does cry at least once or twice though. I'm sure I saw pics or videos of it, but that certainty is how Mandella Effects are born. I could have just as easily put those memories in my own mind over time, rather than taking them from reality.

Quote:

I've only got the first season, so that one without him must be season 2.

Yeah... I don't even know. I thought it was with Ruby, but I heard most of this 2nd hand with only maybe 6 minutes of clips of an episode when I'd hear it. And after the whole "crying" misunderstanding, I don't even know anymore. Most TV shows that I've "watched" over the last 5 or so years is watching somebody else break them down and shit all over them while showing clips of whatever they're making fun of. I didn't really watch too many of the Dr. Who ones, just because that was never a show I was super into in the first place. But I've seen a lot of the Star Wars ones and... Yikes.

Quote:

Yeah, Chib was an older guy and I think he had a goatee. His hair was black.

Yeah, the main characters were Ron Pearlman, Peg Bundy and Jax. The actor playing Jax is from the UK as well. I watched some of the commentary on the DVDs and his accent is so heavy, I had a heck of time understanding him.

Really? The UK? I never saw Jax in anything else and forgot what his name is, but I would have easily believed he was American. Accents are hard. I have no problem doing Karaoke and mimicking singing voices, but any time I've tried doing any accent it sounds ridiculous. Funny thing I noticed later though was that, at least in Pop Music, anybody from the UK that sings sounds like an American singing. That's always seemed so weird to me. There's some Beatles stuff, especially the behind the scenes recordings where that wasn't always the case. And a lot of Punk Rock was very much British. But you'd hear somebody like Oasis sing and then listen to them in interviews and be like "wait a minute???"

Quote:

Oh, I will watch movies on You Tube that I can get from my library. And yeah most of them are older and something I've heard about once and I got curious.

I've been able to find a few made for TV movies on YouTube that I couldn't find anywhere else. Just stuff that I remembered from years ago and never saw again. Watched one a few years back on YouTube called "Warning: Parental Advisory" with Jason Prestley about real life trials in the US in the 80's about censorship and how the Parental Advisory label on the CDs came about. It was another one of those things that just kind of blew my mind when I first saw it, but then I went back and watched it again and it was totally cheesy. I remember thinking when I was 20 that Frank Zappa as played by the actor was like the epitome of cool, and then seeing it again when I was 42 and thinking "how high were you the night you watched that, Jack???"

It's really not a good movie at all and feels very much like a made for TV flick from the late 90's, but it still was an interesting and even a fun watch. You're not going to learn anything like you would watching a documentary of those trials, but you get the gist of the Tipper Gore vs. Twisted Sister showdown, and how John Denver of all people swooped in to save the day.

I don't know if you'll ever watch it, but if you do my favorite part of that movie that always stuck with me though was the very last scene. That was just as good the 2nd watch 22 years later.

They're not going to stop, no matter what anybody does.

I always have to tell my Aunt that too about her building.

At least half of them probably don't even have the independence that you do and are at that age where they're all out of fu*ks to give. They're probably trying to at least do something to hide or minimize it but don't even realize that they're failing miserably at it. Trust me, they can't even smell it on themselves.

My step-dad always said "A rat never smells its own hole".

I think he probably had a pretty good head on his shoulders. He didn't raise no dummy, and I know you were close to him. Being wise enough to realize you don't really have much figured out isn't all that common. Admitting it is even less common. Being able to imply it to your kid without letting them know at the time the kid still needs to believe you do is truly impressive.

My old man would just answer every question I asked with something. He was smart enough where a lot of the time he was right, but other things he was either just passing along bad info that was passed on to him at one point, or he would just make something up. I don't ever remember him saying the words "I don't know". I'm glad we get the time to make jokes about it today. I think he gets a real kick out of me remembering something and telling him "you remember that one time you were full of shit about this or that thing".
