Yeah. Had a good time. He got to see my landscaping look good for the first time since spring of 2024, and we watched a cool time-loop movie called Triangle.

We both enjoyed it. Huge improvement over watching The Surfer last time.

Triangle was good. Simple flick despite the time-loop that didn't take too much figuring to know what happened. Almost too simple for my tastes, but the pacing was near perfect and the lead actress from Australia was really good. Wrote a little more about it in the Cinema boards in the low budget thread, but I didn't want to give any spoilers. Not sure if it would be in your library or not. I'd never even heard of it until maybe 4 days ago and it's 16 years old now.

Almost everywhere here they're free, but ALDI being the "cheap" grocery store charges you for cheap plastic or paper bags too. They do have reusable ones to buy for a couple of bucks there, but the ones I have are a lot better than theirs, so I wouldn't buy them and I just look for empty cardboard boxes or trays if I forget my own bags.

Medical alert is definitely more important than forgetting a bag or even my partial. I've done that too.
That is wow and something I don't understand about diabetes. I know I've said this before I know when my blood sugar goes low or if it is too high. That's why I have granola bars on me, incase I can feel myself going low. I eat one and then try and find something proper to eat when I am out. They are stop gap measure for me. I've tried glucose things when I was with Blair but they just at that time do anything for me. My body needs something real in it.
I do what they call "grazing" now a days. I have breakfast and my morning meds. Get over to the mall and grab a coffee and something small. Then I have lunch when I am in the mall. Get home and have a snack, then have another before supper. Meds again and something to eat then something before I go to bed.

Good thing you don't forget your GMC all the time. It sounds like you would be in real trouble if you did. I understand that about your insurance system down there but if you can function with the pods, then maybe that is better for you.

The resuable ones from the grocery stores up here and even from the Dollar stores last for a good long time. If you buy a paper bag in a grocery store it's something like maybe a buck or less. If you bring your own bag and it doesn't matter what kind of bag it is there is no charge. The charge only comes if you buy one from the store you are in like Walmart or others.

Never know about movies. Sometimes someone hates something and I watch it and like it just fine.

That's great that you are reconnecting now though. No, they don't. Enjoy these times with him.

Yeah. I think my old man is going to my brother's this week, but I want to have him over next week.

Got a ton of work done outside today, digging trenches so I could put 5" of chicken wire down around where I'll be landscaping and the foundation of the garage, as well as putting a barrier on the walkway from the driveway to the service door, and then from the service door to my back porch. Only got about 1/3rd of what I need to get done in the Sand Pit/Bermuda Triangle, but so far so good.

Now that I've let things go so long before cleaning everything up and getting back to the job, the mole(s) have had plenty of time to do their thing, and I have a good idea of where all of their holes are now. From what I can tell, they only like being very close to the surface, so the 5" that I'm going down with the fencing should protect everything close to the house and the garage and the landscaping just fine. I wanted to go deeper than that, but after just around 5" deep I'm hitting a TON of rocks and it's hardly diggable by hand tools. I figure if I'm struggling going much deeper than that, the moles aren't even going to try digging down there anyhow.

Picked up my weed fabric, a few tarps, a good hand shovel that I didn't just wreck immediately with my vice grip hands like the last one and another roll of steel fencing to bury. I'm putting the fabric down everywhere, but I had the idea to also buy a few decent tarps to put on top of it in the area where I would put drainage if I choose to do that in the future. It should be a lot easier to move the rocks to the sides and not lose them in the sand if the tarps are down there.

If things go well tomorrow, I might actually have a decent portion of that covered with river rock by nightfall. It will be nice to go out back and not see sand everywhere. And even nicer to not have to pull 3,000 weeds back there ever again.

Yeah. Nasty little things. If I knew a few years back what I know now, I would have used quite a bit more of this chicken wire in the front. The foundation is good just because I've made it impossible for them to trench out along it. But I only put in pieces about 7" deep, perpendicular to the house every 8" or so. They can't go in a straight line, but they can go right up to the foundation and screw things up regardless. Nothing I can't tamp down, but annoying nonetheless. I'm boxing things out all around with the rest of the work, and only putting the perpendicular pieces about every 2 feet or so for good measure.

My new hand shovel actually holds up to my pressure and didn't immediately get all bent out of shape like the one I got last year did. It's got a serrated edge too, and even with that it's hard to remove just a few rocks if I need another quarter inch or so for my fencing. It's not easily bendable chicken wire. It's pretty thick steel wire with 1/2" x 1/2" squares, so I don't get a lot of play if there's a few rocks making it poke out too high. If I can't move those rocks, there's no way that a mole on meth would be able to.

Could be. Who knows. I haven't found anything too interesting so far, and that was in the crawlspace under the porch and was man made. Found an old can of some fruit drink that hasn't existed since the 70's. I don't remember what brand it was called, but I took a picture before tossing it. Also found a metal weed pipe with a cool leather wrap in the middle that had a sweet Harley Davidson logo around it. I threw that out too, but that's kind of a shame now. Got back in with a few of my buddies a few years later and I'm sure I could have cleaned that up real nice and any of them would have loved it. Probably worth a few bucks too.

I'm not going to go all out like I had planned to a few years ago just because I've seen the full extent of what these moles can do, so I've tempered my expectations. But perfect is the enemy of good, and I've been looking at that palette and a half of river rock stacked up nearly 6 feet tall for 2 years now and I'm sick of looking at it and the sand and having to constantly pull so many weeds that it might as well be grass.

They can't go in a straight line, but they can go right up to the foundation and screw things up regardless. Nothing I can't tamp down, but annoying nonetheless. I'm boxing things out all around with the rest of the work, and only putting the perpendicular pieces about every 2 feet or so for good measure.

My new hand shovel actually holds up to my pressure and didn't immediately get all bent out of shape like the one I got last year did. It's got a serrated edge too, and even with that it's hard to remove just a few rocks if I need another quarter inch or so for my fencing. It's not easily bendable chicken wire. It's pretty thick steel wire with 1/2" x 1/2" squares, so I don't get a lot of play if there's a few rocks making it poke out too high. If I can't move those rocks, there's no way that a mole on meth would be able to.

Could be. Who knows. I haven't found anything too interesting so far, and that was in the crawlspace under the porch and was man made. Found an old can of some fruit drink that hasn't existed since the 70's. I don't remember what brand it was called, but I took a picture before tossing it. Also found a metal weed pipe with a cool leather wrap in the middle that had a sweet Harley Davidson logo around it. I threw that out too, but that's kind of a shame now. Got back in with a few of my buddies a few years later and I'm sure I could have cleaned that up real nice and any of them would have loved it. Probably worth a few bucks too.

That's nice of you to say. We'll see. I'm not going to go all out like I had planned to a few years ago just because I've seen the full extent of what these moles can do, so I've tempered my expectations. But perfect is the enemy of good, and I've been looking at that palette and a half of river rock stacked up nearly 6 feet tall for 2 years now and I'm sick of looking at it and the sand and having to constantly pull so many weeds that it might as well be grass.

I'm sick of it!

It takes time to reset relationships. Especially with parents and such from my understanding.

All I remember is the holes they leave. I've heard of people running hoses through their holes to drown them.

Yeah, sturdy tools are best for heavy work. And serrated edges makes me think of building soddies. That is houses built out of cut almost bricks of hard packed dirt. Least that's what they were called up here. Don't know about down there.

You would have to go down deeper than what you are talking about to find fossils. You would also need specialized tools as well. Something that could actually split rock.

I'm sure however you finish it you'll be pleased with what you've done.

I know what you mean about sick of things. That's when I go on a kind of cleaning binge. I get sick of looking at the space and away I go.
